I’m not sure if you look at these comments anymore since this video was done such a long time ago but I just wanted to say that I have been using this exact recipe for years! Every thanksgiving and Christmas, my wife, kids and relatives love when I make this. Thank you very much for sharing your recipes through the years with us ❤.
Yeh… thanks for not rambling about how much Cracker Barrel means to you and your family and how you were inspired to post this video. Kept it straight forward to the point. Thats what the people needed. Thank you.
Making this today will keep you all posted on update....ok here is my update. AMAZING! I used salted Kerry Gold butter. Hubby told me NO extra salt needed just add cracked pepper if you are using salted butter. Also I use ONE POUND hash browns only and it was perfect. And for that extra crisp....BROIL at the end and PERFECTO!!!
THIS. IS. THE. RECIPE. 🙌🏾 I didn’t measure bc I tried to scale down and just kind of eyeballed, I somehow missed the butter, used fresh shredded potatoes and made cream of chicken from scratch. Even with all of these alterations it still tasted very close to CB’s so I know it would’ve been exact if I followed the instructions! THANK YOU 11 YEARS LATER!!
I work at CB and this is the EXACT recipe, cept we make it in a more...industrial scale to say the least lol on a Sunday morning (6-11) we sell the equivalent of about 150 of these pans, that's just in the morning lol.
Well, if you mean bacon or shellfish free then yes this particular recipe is, but there are several recipes that are not, Turnip Greens are cooked with some bacon fat for flavor, I guess as a stand in for ham-hocks. However there is nothing that is specifically labeled as Kosher if that is what you're asking.
Alex Rodriguez well cheese can be made with animal rennet which is pork. Butter can contain pork. Corn bread can contain pork. Would the employees be able to give me this information on these items or would I need to call corporate?
Made this this morning along side my “bird in a nest” egg and sour dough bread. And of course some thick cut bacon that I added fresh cracked black pepper to. I kept expecting someone to come top off my coffee! That’s how spot on this recipe is :)
I made this for a family gathering at the lake last weekend. I am serious when I say that huge pan was gone before I knew it! It tastes EXACTLY like Cracker Barrel's recipe. I should know, I get it no matter if we eat there for dinner or breakfast! Thank you so much!!! This is a new family favorite!
I made two pans last night, one for my house and one for my grand kids. My granddaughter had them today for breakfast, and with every bite she would yell Yummy! Thanks so much for this great recipe!
I made this for Sunday breakfast today. I love it a bit more crunchy so I put it under the broiler and browned it a bit. I did serve it with sour cream. Oh yes, and plenty of bacon and toast with homemade freezer jam. We all ate too much! Thanks for the recipe.
I first saw this video years ago. I know this recipe by memory now but I still come back to this video cause you're my favorite Chef on TH-cam! Deeeeee-licious recipe!🤗
I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am for your video. I’ve been looking everywhere for this recipe, and this video is the answer to my prayers! I could cry! THANK YOU!
They've got a niche filled and have quite a business! They've got good food, the inside is very homey (complete with fireplace) and they let truckers and RV'ers park overnight for free. They aren't the cheapest place to eat but it's good ole comfort food! As for the recipe, I always wondered why this never turned out until I asked a friend who worked there. I've only seen one other recipe like mine online which a former employee commented on saying it was the real deal. It's spot on to me.
I made this today for my family . I followed your recipe. , but I used butter instead of margarine . We loved it . Your recipe was the one we loved most. Great job!
Glad to hear!! I don't think they have a single bad thing on the menu at all. My personal favorites are this of course, the biscuits are to die for, their fried apples, fried okra, chicken and dumplings and the chocolate Coca Cola cake. It's the ultimate comfort food and if you ever get the chance, do make a stop there! You'd love all the antique stuff hanging from the ceiling and on the walls. And you'd probably know what each and every one was too, LOL!! You won't regret the stop!!
I make this every year now for Thanksgiving. Nobody wants mashed potatoes anymore just this hash brown casserole. Because I can leave it out for an hour before the food is done and on the table and it makes my life easier. Literally tastes just like Cracker Barrel hash brown casserole. Great recipe, thank you so much for posting it.
I'm from the UK and my wife is moving here from Rockford. I'm learning how to make as much of the CB menu as possible as it's the only thing we wish we could take with us! Thank you for this, you're getting me all the brownie points!
I have made this... it's delicious. One suggestion, before adding the melted butter, add the salt and pepper to the butter and stir it in the measuring cup first. Dumping salt and pepper on top of cold and solid ingredients will make it darn near impossible to distribute evenly, no matter how many times you stir/fold the large lump mixture. BTW, thanks for the Colby cheese distinction. I did not know that. Thanks for a great recipe.
Oy vey - the next time you post a video on how to sell a home, we'll all be sure to correct *you* on some piddly detail that makes no difference whatsoever.
I order this every time I go there no matter what time of day and no matter whatever else I'm ordering! LOL. I just have to have it! Now I'm looking forward to making it! Thank you so much!
I made this tonight, it taste exactly like CB hash-brown casserole. Thank you for sharing your friend's recipe, and figuring out the ingredient amounts. You can taste this is a genuine recipe. The Colby cheese is spot-on! 💥BRAVO💥👍🏻
In the 70's my mom made a potato casserole similar to this. It had the sour cream and was topped with crushed Corn Flakes and more cheese. We don't have Cracker Barrel where I live. Thanks for sharing the recipe:)
I love your videos. I like your voice and the way you talk. I find you're quite funny, and entertaining. Instead of turning on tv, nothing to watch these days, just commercials, i turn on your youtube channel to learn and to keep me company. Please post more old school comfort food recipes like this. I love it. 👍
I have made this numerous times over the years and it is spot on, ..I mix mine in a seperate bowl and add a lil bit more salt..everybody love whn I make it..its perfect thank u
So, I was *this* close! You actually showed me how the techniques are going to give a better texture & consistency! I had not been using the food processor for the cheese. I had been mixing in regular grated cheese and then putting a layer of cheese on top. Also, leaving the casserole to rest for 30 min should indeed get me closer to the CB yumminess - Thanks!
That was my problem too. Had to go to someone who worked there to get the secrets and it's as close as it's going to get. Put it side by side with the real one and most people wouldn't think there was a difference.
When you microwave the shredded potatoes, it should evaporate most of the water off them and release it as steam which helps 'cook' the potatoes so they shouldn't be too watery after that. Just be sure to leave them uncovered which also helps evaporate the moisture. Hope that helps and let me know how you like it!
I'll love this recipe! So simple and so good! I get so mad when I have to hunt it down each time I want to make it, so my son showed me how to save it. Yay son!
I tried your recipe and followed your instructions exactly and it was phenomenal, I used Ore-Ida frozen hash browns and Great Value colby cheese, plan on making this again on Christmas morning
thank you so much for posting this video. my younger sister and i moved back to california almost 2 years ago and have missed their food so much because there isnt one here and the closest one i found on their site is still 64 miles from the california border into arizona. i know this'll make her so happy again thank you!
So nice to see a recipe for hash brown casserole without sour cream! I love Cracker Barrel's recipe and this is very close to that taste and consistency.
I have been searching for this recipe for years! Will be heading to the grocery store as soon as they open to get the ingredients and this is on the menu for dinner. So stinkin excited.
I just moved to Australia from Ohio and I'm really missing some of the yummy American foods I grew up with. I'm glad you showed me how to make it. The only thing I might need to buy a similar brand of is the hash browns.
Good luck with that! We moved to NZ from Pennsylvania and the "hash browns" here are either tater tots or those MacDonald's patties. We have to shred the potatoes in the food processor....
I love Cracker Barrel hash brown recipe and haven't been able to reproduce the recipe. Thank you so much! I get extra hash brown casserole to take home and broil it so it's crispy on top. I have little shallow ramekins that are perfect to reheat and crisp up leftovers. Use a deeper ramekin if you prefer yours more creamy. Sometimes at Cracker Barrel the hash browns don't cook all the way through so I put mine in the microwave for a couple minutes then broil in my toaster oven.
I have this in the oven right now. I used a little too much hash browns but I made sure to add more cheese and onion, hopefully that will help it to turn out ok
I just checked the recipe I have for CB Hasbrowns and sure enough it calls for sour cream and cheddar cheese. My aunt gave it to me when I was putting together a recipe book of recipes our family likes to make when we all get together. I've never actually made it but I thought it came awful close to a HB casserole I make except the hashbrowns are cubed and you put crushed potato chips on the top. Thanks for the REAL CB recipe!! :)
My parents and I stopped in a Bay CIty, MI Cracker Barrel today and the hashrown casserole was absolutely different than what we are used to. We think they chenged the recipe, because the consistency was way off. Disappointing, but I will make this recipe like you made it for my family next holiday. Crouton Crackerjacks do you put it under the broiler in a glass pan? All of my glass pans say not to use it under the broiler so I've been hesitant to do that method. I much prefer glass cookware to metal so your personal experience would be a great help, THANK YOU!
