I said to myself "This is a cool song, I bet I will understand what he's saying when I see the lyrics". I've now seen the lyrics and the song makes less sense than before.
He’s talking about how his dad suppressed his music because his dad only wanted him to listen to gospel. He’d burn his records, but the “seed” survived
People compare this song to Zeppelin. Fair comparison, but its taken another step ahead in that tradition. Playing this song in 1969 may have actually scared people.
For those looking to get some meaning of this song, I'll try my best to explain: His mama knew who he was and how he feels, his daddy tried to stop him from being who he is and almost succeeded. The "muscle hollar and a moan" is his own way of describing his singing. "Black chords" and "black sound" are references to his music in the eyes of those that dont approve. The "catholic" tone is used possibly as a religious reference, but mostly to describe conformity in life OR other types of music. The "heavy bells" represents his kind or style of living and music (tolling out of tune) according to the norm. "You're gonna wake up" and "Toll their tune for you too" are expressions of his plea for you to be yourself and get rid of conformity. "Black sounds upon his folds" references the folds of sheep (conformity) being threatened by his music which takes form in the "nerve hound" or wolf. Chop talking is a hunting reference conerning the wolf hunting the sheep...meaning his music hunting down conformity. Blood and honey are the spoils of consuming conformity, which he has come to fear. I hope this helped show why this song will last forever.
i love this because it makes me think of a village driving off a horde of ancient horrors and defeating them by ringing thousands and thousands of bells
I have tinnitus because of this song. To keep the sound from waking the neighbors I'd place my computer speakers up to my ears like headphones dozens of times. I love this f&cking song, could not get enough in 2013
This song is wild! You dont see too many bands rock like this these days. Simple, overdriven guitar riffs (sad how guitar is dying in modern rock), fiery vocals, man, I love it!
Guitar isnt dying its just evolving. Yeah this song captures simple driven guitars at its best but this kind of rock is honestly way overdone nowadays, its better to evolve
@@TotinosOtherBoy guitar is trash these days, its completely devolved from van halen, and then devolved even more from this, muse, anything resembling talented guitar, you're just a punk next generation trash fool who doesn't have an ear for music
@@jamesbondisamonkey well music taste is subjective, however I actually know how to play multiple instruments, so from a technical point i objectively have a better ear for music than you.
Thank you so much for this, until this afternoon, I had no idea what they were singing, but i was sure the lyrics aren't "all hail happy meals." no matter how much it sounds like that.
Had an awesome teacher named Mr Hudson that brought me here, best teacher ever, every time I listen to this I drink a beer in his honor regretting I never got his email to message him once in a while
This dude's voice... It's like, so unique, it's got an interesting... I can't really say. But it's so haunting, the way he sings the sort of soft and somewhat melancholic first part, then it explodes into that badass scream he has. I also really like the whole kinda Led Zep kinda vibe they have. I really hope these guys get their props. Because they got some good stuff going on here, and they got some real talent. I mean REAL talent.
I also like that at 2:59 we are supposed to assume that those are not actual words. If you'd made up lyrics there, I hardly think we would have known the difference.
I have this song timed on playlist to hit just around mile 3 of my run when I'm hitting the big hill on 13th. Every single time it drives me into a frenzy and pushes me up that hill top speed. I love this fucking song. Never stops zapping me with adrenaline when I need it. Possibly my favorite heavy song of all time.
I like this song but at first I thought it was a Kings of Leon song from way back when they still hollered and screamed. Even the guitar riff is a little KOL. Still think this is a great tune.
I'm so glad someone else thought the same exact thing that I did! Haha! I got an extreme case of déjà vu for some of Kings of Leon's older albums. KOL is one of my favorite bands, and I'm really liking this song.
Nice to see true, honest rock music still exists. Thanks to Pop Empire & Cam for turning me on and CD101 in Columbus for spinning the digital tracks.Great Stuff!
I can not stop listening to this song. I heard it on the radio like 4 hours ago got home and searched it and haven't stopped listening to it on repeat. Ive never heard of these guys but they have restored my faith in rock n roll. They make me miss the old Kings of Leon
My favorite artists are Jack White, KOL, Led Zeppelin, and Nirvana and this song is ALL of them combined with a dash of modest mouse, AWOL, and rolling stones. I LOVE it!
I remember hearing this song on the radio a few years ago and instantly falling in love with it. Had to figure out what it was called, but found it and immediately bought it on iTunes. Three years later and it's still an amazing song.
I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like. I have no clue what it is about but this song makes me jump off my chair and yell.
Maybe it’s about church bells waking you up early in the morn’ after a raucous Saturday evening?
Like the Monty Python reference - I always have to say that line, when talking deeply about art with folks
2024 still listening for those heavy bells
I grew up on a hay farm in northern Minnesota so I know all about lifting heavy bales.
It's heavy bells
Connor Stiles get trolled
+West St Paul Chiro Its ok, you were close enough ;)
LOL @ heavy bales.
Jason Isabel 25
These guys took rock and roll, threw it in a deep fryer, added nitrous oxide and Jack, tied it to a bottle rocket and lit it with a highway flare!
That was beautiful.
YES LAWD
Utmost brilliance
I read this out load and eargasmed as the song was also playing in the background.
thank you, kind sir :)))999999999999999
Its about him being from a catholic home, and the type of music that he loved.
bob dillon would be proud of his enunciation
WOW real rocknroll. i thought this stuff died in the 70's
love it
This song sounds like whiskey tastes!
I want to love this.
Nice!
Bourbon or Canadian?
I'm responsible for 15% of these views. Why does this rock so good??
especially right wen it goes black then into all hail heavy bells...thats wen I thought it was gonna haha
Maybe the heart is in the right place...
ALL HAIL HEAVY BELLS!
Kings of Leon 2.0 ;)
People have not yet totally realized how completely awesome this song is in every form.
no shit - so good. can't wait to see them next sunday in san diego
Best blues rock I've heard since Led Zeppelin! The rock is harder, but the blues is still moanin' & wailin'!
i think he means he is tired of ringing the church bell
2019, anyone else still rocking this song?
2024. Still here.
Still am!
Hell yea 2024
This song is still going hard!
It's like Kings of Leon and AWOLnation had a love child....and the child was beautiful.
I said to myself "This is a cool song, I bet I will understand what he's saying when I see the lyrics". I've now seen the lyrics and the song makes less sense than before.
Michael I fuckin agree Wth the video is far out too. I don't know what he's saying but it's dope regardless. ★
I think he is suffering from a hang over is what the song means.
He’s talking about how his dad suppressed his music because his dad only wanted him to listen to gospel. He’d burn his records, but the “seed” survived
It's a reference to his Catholic upbringing. Heavy bells represent the church. Black folds and beard represent the priests.
I think he is saying one day we are all going to wake up and face death.
My boyfriend sent me here. I gotta say I felt that metal move, as well. It hurt a little. Liked it alot.

the heavy bells are 'tolling out a tune', not 'tolling out of tune'.
Fuck yes mate I respect you
Well done sir
That was a great description, bro. I sent it to a friend and she didn't get it either.
Naw, he's talking about the heavy bells you hear when you smack one straight into the main line.
Love how the record is smoking, it should be. Bad Ass Tune.
Effing Rad! C'mon guys, this band has HUGE and obvious Zeppelin & old school Souther n Rock influence through and through.
Every human Brain perceive differently ! The Poetry , Musical notes & Human voice box . Surely ( INNA )
My great taste of music brings me here...
i love this because it makes me think of a village driving off a horde of ancient horrors and defeating them by ringing thousands and thousands of bells
Okay okay.. I'm gunna finally learn this on guitar. Keep forgetting
I have tinnitus because of this song. To keep the sound from waking the neighbors I'd place my computer speakers up to my ears like headphones dozens of times. I love this f&cking song, could not get enough in 2013
Hell's bells, yes, please and thank y'all.

I think my iPhone is broke. It keeps playing this song over and over. No complaints.
Haha
Just heard this song for the first time a few minutes ago on the radio. AWESOME!
Man, this is some fucking rock and roll. This band had better get huge.
I had a good chuckle at this...accept my thumbs up.
Kings don't have this soul.... thank God J business is here. fuck yah!!
Whoever made this video is BRILLIANT! The most entertainment I've ever had while watching a record spin.
I freaking love how Zeppelin this is. Finally some rock with passion and intensity.
Especially at 2:38
He sounds like Caleb from Kings of Leon with a Led Zepp guitar riff... This is my song for the summer!
Thank you so much for this, until this afternoon, I had no idea what they were singing, but i was sure the lyrics aren't "all hail happy meals." no matter how much it sounds like that.

I highly recommend seeing these nuts live...great show!
My favorite new song from 2013. The view count on this needs to explode.
This band is The Band!!!
Ain't dat my 'Murica!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
These guys rock hard, but classy, they should be waaaaaay famouser
I. Love. This. Band. They actually come from near me.
I also like that at 2:59 we are supposed to assume that those are not actual words. If you'd made up lyrics there, I hardly think we would have known the difference.

This songs reaches down deep inside and pulls out that which makes us all want to emote
I can hear, separate out each chord on this song, except during the heavy, fuzzy chorus. Beautiful
I think we have a new king of rock n roll
Fuck I love this band this song has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now my gf tired of me walkin around whisperin heavy bells haha
I'm addicted. What do they put in their songs?
Holy shit that's good. Only now to find out I've been saying all the lyrics totally wrong.
Thank you Grace! Awesome tune.
I have no idea what's happening in the song but I love it
heard this on the radio the other day and coulda swore it was some early Kings of Leon b-side or outtake from their first album. Cool song though.
wonderful song to wake neighbors up to. hahahahaha LOUD!!!
I heard this song on Sirius Radio, I think it's my new favorite song
Faction kicks ass!
I like this song but at first I thought it was a Kings of Leon song from way back when they still hollered and screamed. Even the guitar riff is a little KOL. Still think this is a great tune.

*****
Agree whole-heartedly with both
They sound very inspired by Kings of Leon and Led Zeppelin
Literally the only words i knew of this song before watching this video were "heavy bells!" Haha!! Finally I have some closure!

Gawd Damn that song needs to be played loud
Anyone who dislikes this does not know damn good music if it slaps them in the face.
Eh. It's alright. It's not bad. I just don't; I'm not sold yet.
This song is so strange I don't know why I like it so much
I like the song but even the production on this video was excellent. Great job.
Driving around Houston lessening to this song makes me feel so played back. Don't feel like i'm at work. ..
Reminiscent of early Kings of Leon. Too bad they dropped the ball big time, unlike these fellas. Keep Rockin!
This just doesn't get old. Must have heard it 50 times on the local station and I still love it
Years later,, this song still ain't old,,, --it got me thru to the end of a bid--
Hahaha what an awesome video. I didn't know you could have so much fun just with lyrics.
I can not stop listening to this song. I heard it on the radio like 4 hours ago got home and searched it and haven't stopped listening to it on repeat. Ive never heard of these guys but they have restored my faith in rock n roll. They make me miss the old Kings of Leon

O man did u guys save us new rockers
My favorite artists are Jack White, KOL, Led Zeppelin, and Nirvana and this song is ALL of them combined with a dash of modest mouse, AWOL, and rolling stones. I LOVE it!
Wouldn’t have thought of modest mouse until you said it but that’s dead on.
J Roddy Walston and the BID-NESS!!!
Like my morning jacket and kings of leon had a baby... So good

Every so often a band will come along that restores your faith in rock&roll…..this band has done that with this song especially 🖤🥶be safe out there
Can't wait to buy this record! Not the .99 download bullshit! The $20 record, if 40,000 people thought like me you might make $880,000
