Easy Fix for locked-up front brakes?

  • Is your car shaking badly as you go down the road? Does something smell like it is burning? Do you have a loss of power and speed? If you touch the front wheel, do you burn your hand? These are all classic symptoms of a bad brake caliper, which is squeezing the brake pads hard against the rotor, which should only occur when you apply the brakes. Well, The brake caliper might be undamaged, but another part behind the tire might be the culprit. Before assuming the brake caliper must be replaced, check out my video, and you might save yourself a lot of money.

    I want to thank you very much for your video. We had a that problem with a 2013 Ford F-150 4x4 with 5.0 engine. We found out there was a problem with a 2011 and 2012 but only for ecobost six cylinder engines. Noticed the 5.0 does not have an external vacuum pump we proceed and follow your video which fixed the problem immediately at no cost other than removing and replacing the tire. Thanks again.

    Each hose is only about twenty bucks and a lot of mechanics are recommending changing them because of the sludge dirt buildup over many years.
    I read one story of the guy he insisted it was the master cylinder causing the problem and he recommended only a reman not with a reservoir. He proved his theory by loosening the brake lines at the master cylinder and watching the fluid spray out. Said proves that the master cylinder was blocking the fluid from going back up into the reservoir.
    I'm just not convinced yet

After 30 minutes the calipers release & i can drive a few more miles before it happens all over again. They also will lock up idling in park in about 5-10 minutes. If I turn off the car, they will both slowly release again.

      If the problem is not a pinched brake line, then perhaps one or more of the brake pistons have rusted walls, and they will not retract when your foot is off of the brake. Heat causes expansion of everything in the brake region, and yes, it can cause brakes to lock up!

    • @gonnaliveforever
      @gonnaliveforever  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mary. Sorry you have had to go down the black hole of kissing your cash goodbye, although, it appears your brake system will be in great condition once the real problem is discovered. There are GMC ABS videos available to look at on TH-cam. Not all vehicles will display a "check engine code" if there is a problem with the ABS system. There are even times when the ABS will malfunction simply because one of the 4 wheel speed sensors have gone bad. Replacing the bad the sensor could possibly restore the function of the ABS system. Vehicles are very complex, and getting more so. My advice is to google the year, make, model of your GMC, and add " possible faulty ABS". Then on a different google search, substitute "faulty ABS" with "faulty wheel speed sensor". A certified GMC dealer would be the very last course to try, as they are obviously quite expensive. Try to use google and youtube, as people who have your specific vehicle might just report what they found and what was the fix (sometimes something simple, like my video!)

    • @gonnaliveforever

      There are a lot of things to consider 1st. How old is the vehicle? If this is an older vehicle, it is possible both brake calipers are bad and need to be replaced. It happens on all cars, with age. If you are capable of SAFELY inspecting the clamps, and if they can be opened up, that would be the first thing to do. I am not supposed to diagnose your vehicle through this channel. I do not want you to do anything that could endanger you or anyone else.

    I have an old car (1996 Nissan Quest) I’ve brought it to my mechanic three times in two weeks, but he can’t reproduce the problem. Car drives fine for hours and then all of a sudden only the left front brake locks up so hard that the wheel will smoke for over an hour while I wait on the side of the road. After it cools off, the brake unlocks but the pedal goes to the floor and I can barely stop the van. I can manage to get it home and park it but in the morning everything works fine again for a few days. How incredibly frustrating! I understand that you can not diagnose problems on here, but could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you very much!

    • @gonnaliveforever
      @gonnaliveforever  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I first must state I am not a registered mechanic. But I can share from my experience. You might have multiple issues here. A break pedal that goes all the way down is possibly a bad Master Cylinder, the device that is attached to the wall in back of the engine. A brake locking up on a specific wheel can be caused by various issues in the brake hardware of that wheel. Pointing you in the right direction might be to go to a different mechanic in your area. Check Google to see what kind of ratings individuals have given to that mechanic. Google can be very helpful in knowing who to pick and who not to pick.

      @@gonnaliveforever I bleed them over 3 times the truck was fine it had a little leak in the tubing brake line everything was ok working like always I put fluid in drove to a professional shop they put brake line and said the others were ok I was my way home
      And it locked up and they gave me my money back and then I put new pads and pushed the calipers back and bleed them and it did the same thing with. Ew ones...I hit the brakes a couple times stopping and they started dragging so I put new calipers and I bleed them again and now I’m fixing take this wheel
      Off but what would I do get the rust out? Or I’m checking the brake hose and let pressure off I empty the brake fluid out

      @@chrisslaughter5552 Sorry you have had such a tough time with this. Are there any check engine lights on? If so, do you have access to an OBD 2 scanner? Read the codes, and Google can locate the correct code meaning for your Truck. 2 people on this presentation claim their problem was the ABS assembly, but it is expensive to replace, and I personally would not replace the ABS unless a code said it was bad.

    Will this fix my grinding sound…driver side when applying Breaking

    • @gonnaliveforever
      @gonnaliveforever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Grinding sound is quite serious. Most of the time it is the complete loss of brake pad material, and what you are hearing is called "metal to metal contact". I suggest getting this to a shop ASAP.

    Could be the Master Brake Cylinder failing also. If you replace the caliper, just replace the hose also, then if it comes back within a few days, it's the Master cylinder!
