As an owner of a welding company I have gone through several trucks in my fleet. I recently sold a 2019 6.7 Cummins and a 6.2 ford and bought two of these 2022 2.7 4 cylinder chevys. These little engines are amazing on gas mileage and have more than enough power for the average contractor. I couldn’t be happier with what Chevy is doing. My 6.2 ford was getting 11 mpg. The Chevy is at 21 and hauls the same load no problem.

It’s beyond capable, and I got lucky on my purchase price because the dealer I got it from said they couldn’t sell it… no one wanted a 4cyl full size truck. MPG real world is 21.8 since I have owned it. I wish the transmission was the 10spd or manual as the 8spd is a little rough, but so far I have had no issues.
The purchase price is high on this one, but if you need a great truck that’s not 50k+ this is it. Dealers have a hard time moving them, so shop around and see if you can score one under msrp.

@@thejosh0100 - the I5 was a terrible engine. You just can’t add turbo to an existing engine. That has been proven over & over. The 4 cylinder her is built in the same manner a a 4cylinder turbo diesel that will last 400,000 miles plus. There’s no reason this engine can’t last a similar amount.
Times have changed substantially in how the manufacturers are willing to build their engines. The Ford 2.7 is again a very sturdy engine built with the same material Ford builds their V6 turbo diesels.
The alloys available today , eve compared to the days of the I5 3.5 and 3.7 motors are so much better!! You can build a smaller engine, much more stout and have the longevity. They are not always light though. The GM 4 cylinder is their lightest full size truck engine. The Ford 2.7 is a HEAVIER power plant than the 5.0 litre V8. That’s as a package including the turbos etc.
To each their own, and I’m not a Chevy guy, but I would get this over the 5.3 V8. Much better torque with decent horsepower!! Ford proved wit their 2.7 that combination will generally outperform the 5.0 in everyday use and be a more reliable power plant as well. Especially 2018 - 2020. The jury is still out if they improved the 5.0 to be as reliable for 2021 & 2022 as it originally was,,,,,.
Times are very different now vs the powertrains you mentioned. That I5 had great numbers for hp & torque, but it had such a narrow power band that they just were not great performers!! I know, I had a 2007 Chevy Colorado 3.7 4x4 as a runabout. It was actually pretty decent off-road, but the fuel economy, power delivery, performance over all was just fair. There no way that motor would have been any good in a full size truck. You just can’t add a turbocharger to an existing engine not designed for the additional internal stresses without killing reliability and especially longevity. The I5 do last a long time though.

Liking the 2.7 turbo more and more. The truck / trim level in the truck in this video was very nice. The only thing I would want differently is steering wheel controls for that small information screen between the gauges if that is possible. I could also probably survive with a 2 wheel drive version. Thanks for the video.

I took a new 2022 1500 LT with options for a test drive. I have to say I really was not impressed with the truck. The interior just feels like it’s cheep flexible plastic. The test drive really wasn’t what I was expecting, the truck drove smoothly for the most part but gives way to a lot of body role left and right that reminds me of driving an old Buick or Caddy. I really like the way the truck looks with the LED day time running lights up front. Very sharp looking truck and really wish Chevy put the same effort into the fit and finish plus the handling of the truck. I’m really not a brand specific type of guy when it comes to trucks. I owned them all Ford Chevy and Ram. I currently drive a 2020 Ram 1500 with options and I can honestly say I was happy to drive away from the dealership in my truck, fit finish quality and handling hands down much better truck. Love the way the Chevy looks but that’s where the attraction ends for me.

My experience with four cylinders is that they tend to have an obnoxious exhaust note that tends to be felt and heard in the cab no matter how hard the manufacturer tries to deaden it.
