Love the real life 0-60 tests! Appreciate you take altitude and air temp. into consideration, most people ignore it although they're very important factors.
I’m glad you liked it! Density altitude which is a combination of about 4 air quality factors is huge, if it can affect a gas engines performance by over 25% in some extreme conditions of course it needs to be mentioned, IMO. Lol. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Yeah like TFL Truck's 0-60 tests at 1 mile above sea level.
I have a 2015 5.3 and love it ! It goes 0 to 60 in 6.2 and the 1/4 mile in 15.1 all day long .
Nice!! Yeah, the altitude kills naturally aspirated performance in this area lol.
I love ❤️ my 2.7 turbo . So far so good fun to drive. Avoid the noise about not a capable engine
Absolutely! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. How many miles have you put on so far?
I actually just finished another 0-60 compilation of the Colorado/Canyons… 2.7 HO vs non HO and the last gen 2.8 Diesel and 3.6 V6.
I’m excited to make that one public in the near future. 🙂
Love the 3.0 duramax. I like the feel of low-end torque
The low end is definitely strong, especially in the lower gears! 😎
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208It's strong in the high gears too. Cruising along the highway at 70 mph and just barely lean into the accelerator pedal and it picks up speed without having to downshift.
I love my 2023 Z71 with the LZ0. The torque rush is so satisfying.
I broke my new Colorado Trail Boss in, I didn’t get on it till after 500 miles, I hope nobody floored my truck like this before I got it 😢
somebody needs to call you a WAMBULANCE
That’s a big problem with buying even a year or 2 old vehicle- some dealer slapped his tag on it and drove it home every weekend lol
You seem to be stuck in the 60s. New age motor builders will tell you to get on it right away.
@@LukeHein-hy8wi lmao that’s for race builds which are being rebuilt regularly. A vehicle you want to last you need to break it in. Not just engine piston ring mating but gears in trans need to mate as well.
Just got out of my Colorado trail boss for a Silverado. The gas mileage on that mid size was horrible. Averaged 14.5, laughable considering my car before was a V8 SS getting 14.5-15.5.
Appreciate that 6.2 liter V-8.
No, I appreciate that 3.0 diesel trailboss that gets 28 hwy mpg actual real life driving as it sits in my driveway and is cheaper to operate than the 6.2
@@Jakerthesnakerin the long run the 6.2 will be cheaper to maintain. The 3.0 will run into some expensive repairs before 150k miles.
@@Jakerthesnaker we all in the long run appreciate the 6.2 as it is better, cheaper and if you can't pay for fuel you might consider an EV and let me know how that holds up on resale lol
@@JakerthesnakerI’ll take the 6.2.
Great video- Only thing I can knock is the cab/bed configurations being different and the street spec vs trailboss. I feel it'd be a better test to do all crew cabs, all on same tire sizes roughly. Happy to see the diesel is nowhere near as slow as I thought it was.
Thanks! Yeah, I know this test wasn’t exactly apples to apples. But I’m just a regular guy trying to do the best test I could that day, lol. Yeah, the diesels hit hard at full boost/torque, but in typical diesel fashion it’s not a very smooth or linear power band like an NA V8 or supercharged car.
I'd love the regular cab with the 3.0 diesel
That would be a sweet combo!
The 2.7 turbomax is a beast. People hear "4 cylinder" and instantly dismiss this engine. Almost as much HP as the other engines, as much towing capacity, tons of low end torque and second quickest 0-60 in the field. Go watch the video that interviews one of the designers/engineers. The L3B is pretty cool.
And it has a 100K mile warranty and no lifter failure like the V8’s lol. Honestly, it might be the best option haha.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208not even close. It’s an oil burner
Can’t tow your kids hot wheels
The 3L diesel is the best option. Better fuel, better 0-60 if you know how to drive them, better towing than ANY 1500.
@@jonathanstamey6388 you don’t buy a truck for mpg. 🤦♂️
Interesting video, thanks for doing this.
Are they all 8 speed or 10 speed transmissions or a mix? Assuming that could also impact the results.
Also curious if the 2” lift and bigger offroad tires slow down the 5.3 Trailboss you tested a bit compared to the others.
I think a mix of transmissions, although without revisiting the window sticker maybe only the 5.3 and possibly the 2.7 was a 8 speed, as the more premium engines are paired to the 10 speed. You’re absolutely right!! A lifted AT tire trailboss compared to a regular cab street truck isn’t fair, but it was still a fun video to put together, and know we can see a performance range in their best or worse configuration, lol. 😂
The 2.7 is an 8 speed. All the rest are 10 speed.
@@randycupp5925 amazing how the person that produced this video doesn’t know that. Standard information since the 2022 models were released two years ago.
Lol, you’re absolutely right. It’s been a while since I’ve revisited the Silverado’s to memorize their specs. So many trims and various configurations. But you’re right I should have at least been able to confirm the trans to engine configurations. 🤷♂️😅
@@phillipcotten4872 think of how long ago manners were introduced and yet folks have issues with those to this very day...
I hate center consoles in trucks, they’re rough if you’re tall. Not sure why they’re so wide too.
Awesome and informative video! Thanks!
I’m glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Superb video presentation. Spent a few days in Twin Falls this summer. Nice town. Am a third generation GM truck owner.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching a few of my videos!! I really enjoy doing various 0-60 comparisons a couple times a year, especially with the GM trucks.
Try puting the trucks in sport mode next time...
Diesel 😍😍😍👍🏻🔥
I would like see the same test with a crew cab 2.7 and the same 5000 lb. trailer behind each of them . I think the 2.7 would suffer the most .
That’s a great idea!
It has a lot more torque than a 5.3
I’ve gotten 5.5 seconds with the 6.2L in 4x4AUTO mode
The 6.2 With A Max Tow Package & A 10 Speed Makes You Feel Like A Blueberry Muffin & That's The Reason Why It Is My Favorite Engine & The Axle Ratio Is The 3.42.
Very cool, thanks for posting. Especially the regular cab/short bed was definitely curious to see what they run.
My pleasure! I saw that truck and just selfishly wanted to drive it TBH haha. I’m glad you also were curious about it! 🙂
Cool. Would be curious to see curb weights of each.
That would have been good information to add!
What is the performance report you are getting and how do I get it?
It’s a GPS box you can buy called a Dragy, when I bought mine like 3 years ago I think it was about $150. Then you download the free app that it connects to. I used it a lot on my own before starting my channel and then a couple hundred times with every vehicle o review and it’s held up quite well! 😎
I have 2 of the 2.7 in GMC and 1 5.3 chevy. Like the 2.7 over the 5.3 any day. The 2.7 is a better tow vehicle.
Ya it tows real nice.
This explains alot. I was at a stop light in my canyon AT4X and a high country pulled up and kept inching forward. I knew he was going to gun it and try to cut me off. He reved his truck as i didn't. Both hit the gas and i was inching past him. Never thought this 4 banger would keep up with a v8 as it feels slower than my sons nissan frontier. Never timed anything to know for sure
That’s impressive! Yeah, the 2.7 turbos are no slouch, especially in the first few gears. 😎
Did they all have the same gear ratio?
I can’t confirm this as there’s so many variations and it doesn’t seem like Monroney stickers make that detail very evident. I’m assuming they’re all 3.43 or 3.23, whatever is the most common on these current gen trucks… lol 😬😅
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 yeah, I don't think all rear ends are available for the 10 speed either now that I think about it.
Yeah, whatever they are I’m sure they’re not very aggressive. Nothing like the 5.7 Tundras with a mean 4.30 lol.
I wish GM would offer the 3.0 diesel in a low trim. I want a work truck with great fuel milage. I don’t care about bloat ware gadgets. I want a solid inexpensive truck with great fuel milage that has towing capacity and doesn’t eat gas towing.
We are all so happy to hear that your bum is warm ! LOL, Joking Bro
Lol. 😎
You can’t floor it. It has a torque range, also 4 wheel auto gets great launch, but drags the truck down. I can get the 3L diesel in the 6s.
Great insight!!
So has anyone raced 3.0 lm2 vs 5.3 v8 who wins ???
That’s a good question, I personally haven’t driven lm2. 🤷♂️🙂
Damn I thought the 5.3 would get 2nd place!
Right?! Lol. I think if this was at sea level it might win. Or if the testing was the 1/4 mile it’s higher and broader RPM HP plateau probably would have gained by the end!
The 3.0 LM0 was short shifting. All shifts were 4000 RPM or lower. This engine will Rev to 5000RPM. Why did the 3.0 shift so soon???
Good question. I’m assuming that’s what the computer thinks is the best RPM to shift at for acceleration, probably to stay in the torque band. 🧐 I’m not as familiar with Diesels and when their tq/hp cross like a gas engine that does at 5252 RPM, but this engine makes way more torque than HP so maybe that’s why.
Adaptive learn transmissions will adapt to driver inputs .
That's the way GM tuned the transmission for this engine. Probably keeping it in the sweet spot for torque, much like the heavy duty trucks with diesel engines that also don't rev to redline before shifting.
Need to test which one the roof cracks on first
Lol 😂
How about some 1/4 mile times
That would be fun, I imagine with a 6.60 0-60 it’s best 1/4 mile in my area probably won’t beat a 14.9
But maybe I’ll test it someday! 😉
My 5.3 GMC Sierra is much faster, we get the single cab normal box in the SLE, Elevation and AT4. Its really quick. Unfortunately they don't offer here the single cab normal bed with the 6.2 V8. Also, im very happy that here we only have the 5.3 V8 or the 6.2 V8, 5.3 is standard
Winter gas will also make less power further reducing the 0-60 times.
6.2 than 2.7 than 3.0 than 5.3
Yup!
I’m hoping to film a Colorado HO 2.7 vs regular 2.7 and Silverado 2.7 HO comparison soon. But no guarantees…😬
Bet my ole 502 would smoke the 6.2.
I sure hope so!
5.3 in the standerd cab shorted will be faster then the 2.7 but gm is to stupid to offer it.
Sadly the 4 banger won’t last as long because most people who have full sized pickups actually work them.
The CEO of GM has been making some serious mistakes.
Even Warren Beauty sold all of his stock in GM because he knows they’re going to go bust.
Not really. Every aspect of the 2.7 was designed to be overbuilt. These are their bread and butter vehicles... th-cam.com/video/JLxeBzrhOHQ/w-d-xo.html
you will eat them words lol
@@joeandrijeski5085 You’re right, but when the federal government gets tired of bailing them out just like they did with Chrysler over and over, Stellantis will buy them out, just like the majority of Chrysler is now a rebadge FIAT.
Well they are all forged and they make some components beefier for this last gen
The 5.3 is a bust don’t be mad a 4 banger is quicker than the crappy 5.3
I would go for the 6.2 who cares of the MPG.
Amen 🙏
Who's paying that for these trucks?
That’s a good question! 🧐
They sell all day everyday
@@RawC7Z I'd be curious of the sell vs lease ratio. Still doesn't explain the demographic that's able to go out and crap out $70-90k debt obligation on one. Or even 50-60k on the more mid level trims at the rate that they sell. Assuming its a purchase.
Me. Bought a 5.3 LT today
GM listen! I know you won’t do this but heres an idea! Bring back the 4.8 no afm no dod no vvt! Better can better heads , put a 4l80 behind it 3.55 gears and put in the 1500 and the Colorado or whatever you want to call it and people will probably line up to buy em! Quit trying out the gimmick of the week and weird ass technology that’s never gonna work long term! In short pull your head out of your ass
That would be a sweet truck!
They all will suffer intake valve deposits.
5.3 with a different rear end has a way faster 0-60
Yeah, for sure! It would also be neat to see what a mild NA build (also deleting the AFM) of a 5.3 and 6.2 would run in this altitude.
o to 60 doesnt mater, how long the truck holds together does mater, i keep my trucks 300000 to 400000 thousand miles, i would not buy any chevy truck.
I'll never understand the 0-60 bs when it comes to trucks. Absolutely ridiculous
Haha yeah. But people like to compete and race what they have. 🤷♂️😅
