What until the first time you run out of brakes on a bike. Either because you broke too late or some other reason, like slippery surface.
It will amazing you how well you can dance! Especially if you can't simply get off the brakes.

This is my first comment. While a watcher and rider for 58 years, and I’ve seen great videos, yours is perhaps the most clearly demonstrated. As a teacher, coach, and instructor in several disciplines, I admire your clarity.
My own thoughts are more braaaaakkkkkkaaakkkeeekkeee. Minute changes to pressure. I will never say brake, brakes, brake.... to myself, but I appreciate the simplicity and it enforces maintaining pressure, adjusting pressure until you see your escape.
I have forwarded this to several experienced riders I know. Only they can really appreciate it. That said, it will help intermediate riders a lot.

I've never had confidence around bends on tarmac. I thought perhaps it is because I first learnt to ride off road. But this video was really good, I'm that guy who tries to slow down and come completely off the brakes before I lean the bike. No wonder I've struggled into and out of corners and never had any confidence nor did I ever felt like I knew what I was doing. Can't wait to practise this, the bit where you talked about your braking column and that yours includes the first half of the turn was really good info. I mean it was all good but that bit will help me a lot and braking till you can see the exit. Damn, that is so clear, thanks very much. So well explained. Good teachers is able to get their students to understand them and you do that.

Slow, select gear, lean n ride it through the bend is how I was taught. It’s like launching into the unknown n I too lacked corner confidence. I know people who do it at pace but it’s hit n miss. Ya might be lucky now get a clear run or the bend may not tighten up on ya. This had done so much for my confidence. Much more in control

  • @Nasosdag
    @Nasosdag 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

You have SO much experience, you are working on your craft constantly, and you still use the break when entering a corner. I like the sensible approach and, as new rider, I follow that approach to.
Every other week I will go on Sunday tours with a team of bikers who are a lot more experienced than I am (the guy who plans the routes has been riding for over 40 years). They are good riders, not doing stupid stuff, yet I NEVER see their brake lights go on. I can only conclude that they choose to "hope that the bike will slow down enough by rolling off the throttle" and just lean more, because I cannot reach them. Which means they do not slow down that much.
I have always wandered (still do) how they do it, but I choose not to experiment too much on the twisties. I have narrowed my chicken strips considerably, but that is more due to the experience I am gaining, than winging it and hoping for a positive outcome. I think I am right in doing that... public roads do not usually give you second chances.

I'm still practicing it, but this is the approach to trail braking I've taken from watching your videos and some other virtual coaches that I've found over the years. Really started to click for me last weekend after months of practice that what it allows is what you mentioned. "Fast in. Fast out." It's extremely fun to do and provides so much peace of mind because I never have to commit to anything blind. I'm wondering if what makes you fast is always what makes you safe or if it's just usually true...

    Hi Fast Eddie!
Please tell me, when you were a beginner (1st year) how many times did you dropped your bike or took a fall and how did you overcome the anxiety of riding again?
    Thank you!

@@DavidKimbell Thank you for the advice. I am doing that, but the parking lots are plane. Mostly I am having issues with roundabouts and inclined junctions. Anyway, when I'm not feeling confident, or in the mood, I choose not to ride, even though once I am in the saddle and rev a bit the engine, all my concerns are gone :).

You know Motojitsu, I love your videos and approach to teaching, however...I rarely go into a turn while braking unless there is a stopped vehicle (or another obstacle) I didn't see. I will slow it down to a point while upright. Enter the turn neutral throttle, then throttle out of the turn while covering the brake also accelerate out of the turn while completely upright. No ABS on my '05 BMW. Been doing it that way for a long time. PLUS, you are way over the advisory speed limits on those turns! What's the point of going so fast? thanks for sharing brother - ride safe!

Learned a lot from your videos so far, and since most of this is covered in the previous ones, some of it many times over, this has become they way I now ride when in a more spirited mood. Most of it is thanks to your advices in past few years. So thank you 👍🍻.
But I write to maybe let you know to include one riding style as a hybrid between relaxed and truly fast. Lets call it safe spirited 😉.
GS (and many others bikes) have such a nice engine breaking, some even variable now, and when coupled with the quick shifter downshifting and just little earlier letting go of the throttle in the straight, it gets you to enter corners in a safe and still fairly fast manner that requires less braking force to even none of it but just covering lever.
One that when compared to hard acceleration on corners exit and hard decelerating late in, actually conservative both, fuel and beake pads (probably tires too) while not taking too much fun put of public road riding.
Of course this does not exclude breaking all together, but it does promote a bit of pre corner speed planing making rider mostly just cover brake with very rare need to actually use it more then few percentage.
Extra benefit of such, just little earlier letting go of throttle is also somewhat calmer, fluent ride, especially when with the passenger.
Now, I how such riding is not the punchline of this demonstration, but it does sit in between full relaxed and blazing fast in fast out, so I think it's a style worth mentioning, since it's also beneficial and very safe (as you go just slightly slower pace, but still cover brake or even trail brake at all times). Not sure if you agree with me on this, but this riding style works good for me, especially when 2up and overloaded. It's still thrilling, but feels more fluent to the passenger.

4 months ago when I first got a bike, I was scared of cornering, had bad body position, didn't make use of counter steering and rode with the worst skills ever putting mine and everyone's life in danger. Fast fwd 4 months, I just did a 1800mile round trip from MD to Chicago n back via backroads, freeways, highways, twisties and I owe motojitsu for all the skills that I learned over the past 4 months and ofcourse regular practice. I am much more confident now than I was ever before. Gonna be a patron for life.

Howdy, watching your videos and very impressed with the information. I, like you, was in the military and we had to take the MSR to ride on base. I liked it so much I took three other courses. That however was ten years ago and in the "safe" state of Arkansas. I, now however, live and ride in Northern Thailand. There are really nothing BUT curves up here, the roads often present challenges in sand and gravel on a blind corner, animals (you have't lived until you come around a blind mountain corner to discover an ELEPHANT in the road), and it rains a lot during the season--rotten drivers as well. So, refreshing and practicing what you're talking about, especially in the above video on trail braking is awesome! I've turned my riding club onto your videos and we watch a new Moto Jitsu video at our little get together we have each week and review what we talked about before we do our weekly group ride a couple of days later. I, and the rest of us, are learning a lot and many of my riding buddies talk about how they actually go out and practice what you talk about. So, good stuff brother, hopefully you'll have a bunch more "black belts" riding around SE Asia. Keep it up! Ooo Rah!

Great video. I was always under the impression you use the front brake to set you up before the corner but get off all front brake once you go into your lean angle. Use only rear brake in corner or trail braking.
