    Fiddle leaf figs are kind of finicky. I killed 3 before I had success. They need bright, indirect light. I had to keep mine right next to the window, or under a patio. I think they are more tolerant of being dry, I feel like I hardly water mine and its good. Good luck with all your plants :)

    • @chunk2689
      @chunk2689 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I so appreciate this because I knew they were finicky but holy wow I guess I watered way too much.

    • @lagatitabruja
      @lagatitabruja 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chunk2689 aw yay. Yes I think you need to let it fully dry out before you water again. I think the bright indirect light is most important. I had mine in a room that got only morning light and it died almost immediately. I swear the more I neglected watering it was ok, but the minute I gave it too much water leaves started to drop! Good luck with your plant baby :)

    the rattlesnake calathea needs humidity, make sure you mist its leaves or leave a bowel of water next to it! The edges of the palm are totally normal!

    • @ThisGrace92
      @ThisGrace92 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Caitlin Wilson i went to the comments to check is anyone had said this. Yes, the palm leaves being “chewed” is normal! The leaves just sometimes look like that, and browning at the tips of the older leaves is also normal and unavoidable. If the NEW leaves are brown then that’s when you might have some watering issues.

    So good that plants can be sent in the mail - it makes it really accessible to people who can't buy plants in store! But it's good to promote shopping local and supporting your local nurseries.

    Love the plant content! There’s a plant store in Philly that I’ve been dying to check out. It’s called Urban Jungle? Sometimes I feel icky about supporting amazon, so usually I buy plants online from small suppliers-Etsy, Joshs Frogs, and Gabriella Plants are my favorites.

    just a fun fact in case anyone else doesn't know: if you put plants right up next to the glass of a window, they can get a sunburn! I didn't know why some of my plants were turning yellow/brown on the ends but they do better slightly farther back from the window. Also, i keep a cute little journal to write details about each type of plant i have, so as i learn new things i can add it (and ill know which ones want to be even farther away from the window lol)

Do you think is worth to pay no to so low prices for those plants, taking in consideration the amount of plastic and cardboard, and also how much your ecological fingerprint increases with the shipping process? Hey Amanda!
    I’ve become so interested in plants this year.. I started a big collection of flowers. Unfortunately though, a lot of them died. They were extremely delicate and I didn’t have the items necessary nor the knowledge to fix them or bring them back to life. But nonetheless I tried again.. some survived. I wish I had my own little glass house where I could keep my plants.
    I do love succulents as well I don’t know the names of them but I have one her name is Penelope she’s the type that gives me so many more little succulent babies.
    I would love for you to make more plant videos. 🌸💕

    Plants make me happy too =) there's just something about them. I keep mine outside on our balcony bc knats (we don't like them inside w/us, location is So Cal, we don't have real winter here). I don't usually buy plants. We usually inherit them from someone who doesn't want them anymore or find them in the trash and rescue them (living in a condo makes it easy to see what's being thrown away by neighbors). If I see a plant I like I will ask the owner if I can have a cutting, if a plant is on public land, like a park, I'll take a cutting, then put that in a glass of water until I see roots. Sometimes they live and grow and sometimes not. I usually end up with several of the same plants bc when trimming them I don't like to throw away the trimmings and will put them in a cup w/water and in a little bit I have another plant.

    Hey Qcknd- fellow City Planter shopper here! A couple months ago they offered a "Houseplants 101" class that was perfect for someone just starting out (read: me). It was a couple hours on a Friday night and they went over the basics and you got to leave with a plant. Not sure if they'll offer it again, but keep an eye out for it! Maybe if enough people were interested they'd schedule another. Also, if you haven't heard of it, there's a Philly Plant Exchange facebook group- it's pretty entertaining and occasionally helpful!

    I just ordered my first plant from Amazon and the end of April! $22 for a pretty good sized snake plant, which has been difficult to find in my area. I gave up on trying to find one I liked at physical stores and took the gamble online. I also ordered one from Etsy, but that one was a little disappointing, it had very few leaves and one of them had been snapped in half long before they ever shipped it out, it was already scabbed over. I'm really happy with my Amazon plant, though!
