The thing about 2 is that NONE of his movements are wasted with flair or any fanciful waffle. He's precise, accurate, intelligent and extremely watchable. I love his playing and I adore Sleep Token. Seeing them at the O2 in London in December. I cannot waaaaiiiiitttt!!!
I love how detailed you analyze his drumming. To me he’s all about the details. Clean, consistent, groovy, composed etc. it never gets old watching him play. So excited to watch more of your reactions of II❤
I use the same brand of cymbals as II and many in his kit are from Istanbul Agop's Xist Dry Dark series. Believe it or not, Xist is Istanbul Agop's value series but I'd put them up against many lines from the bigger boys. That moment where you thought he was going to the China, he's using the 19-inch Xist Dry Dark Crash, which is my favorite of the bunch. It's washy enough to be a crash, yet gritty and staccato enough to for breakdowns and other syncopated parts. Highly recommend that whole line of cymbals.
I wanted to give you a very sincere thank you. I've played woodwinds all my life and have very basic music theory education, so I have an understanding of chords and music structure, but percussion is completely foreign to me. I've been fascinated by II's drumming and have watched so many videos to try and understand why it sounds so good and so different from other drummers that I've heard. I've heard people talking about the sound of the snare drum or ghost notes, but I have never truly UNDERSTOOD what they meant. You explain things in such a way that I can understand what's happening and it's given me an even deeper appreciate of II's drumming ability (and honestly all drummers, idk how y'all keep track of all your limbs!) You going back to the ghost note and pointing it out so we know where to look and what to listen for is so helpful! I was also in marching band so the way you explained the tone of the snare as having a marching band tonality to it is what helped make it click for me lol. This whole time I was just like... it... it sounds like a snare... what am I missing? So truly, thank you :)
First off, just discovered your channel and your detailed commentary is very insightful and interesting! I’m learning a lot from you and other channels. I recently discovered ii and Sleep Token thanks to Drumeo and I can’t explain how captivating this dude’s drumming is (as well as the songs as a whole). He’s so damn talented and no doubt inspiring a new generation of drummers. Let’s appreciate Sleep Token’s talent and skill while we can!
I’m convinced he was raised a jazz drummer but and I had a love for metal lol. This dude can play in any time signature flawlessly and it’s just so good
Hey bro, your react was great, a lot of reactors don’t add anything to the conversation but your discussion of the unlathed cymbals and his drumming was insightful! I just have one suggestion for your videos, which is to grab yourself some rgb room lights (some lamps with Phillips hue like bulbs) to just set some colour in the drum room instead of the normal room lights, the camera angles and quality are great but the standard white room light looks a bit basic, switch the cover videos to use these as room lights instead and it will look more pro and only cost like
I was wondering something about those cymbals. You touched on the difference between lathed vs. unlathed, but I notice some of them have big holes drilled into them, and some of them look like they were hammered from the underside. I've never seen that before. I assume (complete layperson here) that it effects the sounds they make, but could you explain it?
I don't even play drums and I was obsessed with that ride cymbal the first time I saw this. I went and looked it up to see how much it was and where I could buy one and then I remembered I neither have a drum kit nor do I remotely know how to play drums. It sounds so CRISPY though.
You should see jay postones from tesseact ghost noting... Dude is a robot and probably my number 1 drummer, mike malyan 2nd and ii would be 3rd= with matt halpern
so if I'm correctly understanding the RLK pattern he explains. I have 2 understanding of what he means: 1 e & a r l k r this is the first and the second is 1 e & a 2 r l k and this one, Am I getting this correctly?
Have you listened to obkatiekat's "Contraband" feat. Futakuchi Mana? It is her best song imo, and even if you don't cover it in a video, I would recommend giving it a listen if you haven't already. Keep it up with the great videos!
All of their performances are called rituals and each piece is an offering. Part of why they wish to remain anonymous is because they wish for their music (offerings) to be the focus instead of themselves.
That’s the solo he does on stage during the live performances
Just watch him do this in the 02 this weekend.
That pause at the end of the solo, it's fun to see him take a moment to revel in absolutely nailing it.
Seeing Sleep Token in May!..CANNOT wait to see this man perform live!!! 🖤Love your commentary and your facial expressions are amazing ❤️
So am I. I’m so excited.
Same!! I was just going to make this comment! 😂 Where are you seeing them?
@@TaraRyze Toronto!!🖤
@@HorseAholic73 can’t wait!🖤
Same!! In Boston !

II is one of the best drummers alive at the moment. What a beast.
A bit hyperbolic but he is good
He is solid. Def not one of the best hahahaha.
Agreed.
Roflmao.
Goddamn, how little music do you listen to, to think that?
@@nietzscheankant6984 how many f*cks do you think I give about your opinion, Swifty?
I was very lucky to see them at Wembley London last December.his solo was 🔥
Was that the one where vessel lost his voice? Or was that this year.
@@M4TTH3W-p9r yeah he lost his voice a few songs in
Heard someone say listening to The Summoning is like edging and honestly it's thanks to this guy right here

The best way I can describe his style of drumming is that he creates order from seeming chaos
Closet R&B drummer. II rules.
II is an amazing drummer, and the whole band is amazing! Thanks for sharing your reaction, good job man!!
I am not entirely sure II is human but mannnnnnnnn that drumwork is beautiful.
II's likea haunted house of drumming, with all these ghost notes
We're seeing sleep token in November! Also your video quality is phenomenal you deserve so much more attention! Keep it up!

Really dug this reaction! I can only wish my kit sounded as good as this lol! Keep up the great work dude!
oh you HAVE to react to the whole hour long drumeo video with ii - it’ll blow your mind!!!
"I can't imagine playing with that mask on" - Nyango Cat -"Try this on for size". Great reaction brother.

Got to hear this live with the solo the other night and my god is he amazing
Yes yes yes yes yes!
I am just happy I am alive the same time II is alive in this world. I will experience them live one day.
You should see jay postones from tesseact ghost noting... Dude is a robot and probably my number 1 drummer, mike malyan 2nd and ii would be 3rd= with matt halpern
Im not a drummer (Im a guitarist), but this makes me happy. I like II.
So he does revise the songs and play them live different from the album version. He talks about it in there long drumeo interview playthru video
so if I'm correctly understanding the RLK pattern he explains.
I have 2 understanding of what he means:
1 e & a
r l k r this is the first and the second is
1 e & a 2
r l k and this one, Am I getting this correctly?
Yes. It has to be formatted this way to accommodate for playing back to back triplets in a 4/4 timed song.
His snare sounds like Danny Carey’s 8x10 just with the strainer engaged
Have you listened to obkatiekat's "Contraband" feat. Futakuchi Mana? It is her best song imo, and even if you don't cover it in a video, I would recommend giving it a listen if you haven't already. Keep it up with the great videos!
I completely agree with everything you said…. And I subscribed cuz the tat. 😂
Did you notice that he has a sweeping motion he does across those cymbals… am I tripping?
A Wizard...
I like what your shirt says lmao
Take me back to Eden is the only one i play fits with sleep metal.
Please react to Gigi De Lana's cover on House of The Rising Sun.
You have watch his play through of Alkaline
#GhostNoteKillah
Might be a stupid question, but why do they call this “an offering”? BTW Adam Pedder is a good drummer
My best guess is that they're going for a religious/cult vibe. So they call it an "offering"
All of their performances are called rituals and each piece is an offering. Part of why they wish to remain anonymous is because they wish for their music (offerings) to be the focus instead of themselves.
