Ice-T has been a life long creative role model. I've seen him speak a couple times and highly recommend anyone who has the chance to see him just talk, do it. The man is just an honest guy and it's like his super power. Long live Ice-T
Met him after a show in '88 at the I Beam in a SF. He was super cool.Asked me and my buddies what kind of music we listened. We listed a bunch of genres and he said "yeah, I always feel sorry for people who only listen to one kind of music"
Mad respect for him acknowledging Schoolly D. that's what us Philly people wanted to hear I'm 49 i remember what PSK and Gucci Time meant to hip hop in our city and those songs still bang to this day.🎤🎧🎶🎵🎼
I always really liked how hard, harsh, and mechanical the beats on Schoolly D’s first record (The one with PSK) was. No melody/harmony, just hard ass beats.
Ice T is that Dude. I was riding with him since, "Six in Mornings". Plus the picture of his woman at time, Darlene was ridiculous. Her pic had me saying, "How can I be down?" I'm just saying
Schoolly D is from Philadelphia and old school fans know that. Growing up in Philly during those early days we were lucky. Got to hear all the great jawns of that time every Sunday thanks to Lady B. My brother & his friends saw Schoolly D back in the 80s ✊🏼✊🏿✊🏽
For sure, Melissa Ann Nevin. The first chapter of #SorenBaker's book #TheHistoryOfGangsterRap is all about Schoolly D. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
As someone who grew up in the south Jersey and Philly metal community but had always had a love for hip hop, T is a hero. He is an expert on the history of both genres and widely respected in both areas. Nobody else has that distinction. He can run a hip hop or a heavy metal show and be at home in both places. This dude is an absolute legend.
This is not so much an interview, it’s a course in hip hop by one of the sharpest minds in the business. The experience and the way Ice T breaks down the history of this transitioning time in hip hop should be archived for future generations. Brilliant.
Ice-T actually tried to calm shit back in the day. To calm gang violence. Other rappers kept on keeping on just to make money as that's whats sold, knowing thats what made young males want to follow.
Good interview Soren ! With one favorite rapper.I read Ice-T autobiography about his life and what his influences on the music he make like Black Sabbath,George Clinton,& James Brown. Also his older cousin influence his to.
I remember back to an interview Glen E. Friedman did with Rolling Stone about different pictures he took along his way to becoming one of the most respected photojournalists in the game. He said that once he went over to Ice T's place to take pictures to promote (I think), "Bodycount" and said that he had a gun on him even though he knew how much Glen hated guns. Glen suggested that he should let him take a picture of him holding the gun to his head with his big diamond ring and Rolex on because it would serve as a reminder to people looking at it that having all that expensive jewelry wouldn't mean shit if you were going mess around with guns. Of course that photo exists because Ice went along with it, just another example of Ice letting himself be the example of what happens if you follow a certain lifestyle. A true legend.
As a member of the Hip Hop culture this dude here is so incredible. It's funny how he knew better than to negatively influence people (to a certain degree) but listen to these guys now. Underrated, when people make a top 10 list you never see ICE T on it but you'll see ICE CUBE which I definitely don't deny CUBE is for sure one of the best but I think ICE T should be up there its hard because there is a lot of other great rappers Eminem, Rakim, Nas, Pac, Big, Scarface, list goes on, my personal fav has always been EAZY E but I also like Wu Tang, Redman, Mobb Deep, anything 90's really
I was doing gangster rap in Chicago in 83. I kept most of those raps to myself because I didn't want anyone to take my idea and it hadn't been used yet. I was influenced by Melle Mel and blowfly. But Chicago has no record labels or connections it was a house music town. When I heard Ice-T 6 in the morning years later on a Doctor Dre swap meet tape in San Diego when I was in the Navy I was floored. He had the same idea I had but was way better

Growing up I would record and show Ice T and Chuck D interviews to my non hip hop friends (which was all at one point, funny to think) I "like" how he can still "finesse" his way around "gangsta" import and influence Gotta read between the lines Ice T holds a special place in my history. I never watched him act in film after Breakin and New Jack I think I watched some of him being hunted in a movie I developed a disconnect having my "favorite" rappers becoming actors Then I learned many were just acting all along Ice T taught me much over the years Nice interview

Awesome, Soren. More hidden knowledge from the Ice. Gold that Ice said that Cube told him that Boyz n the hood was supposed to be 6 n the morning Part 2. Legendary and priceless stuff. Much love for the Ice. The lethal weapons' my mind.
Ice t made me want to be a g, fulfilled that itch. But then changed my thinking between 2 albums. Pain is truly my favorite song of all time. Yes it was I remember the cassette tape inside cover had lyrics to every song on the OG ALBUM
Along with O.G. Darlene Ortiz/Ice-T's first wife, D.J. Evil E., and from the east coast Schooly D. And D.J. Code.
I had the VHS for OG. I kept that nonsense on repeat all throughout college.
Ice T is that Dude. I was riding with him since, "Six in Mornings". Plus the picture of his woman at time, Darlene was ridiculous. Her pic had me saying, "How can I be down?" I'm just saying
