Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

I already got two great quotes from this interview. Every time you listen to Ice talk, rap, or whatever he always leaves us with gems. Some artists you can hear them getting interviewed and if you heard one you've heard them all. It's not that way with Ice-T.

Personally I don't think people love "Gangster Rap" because it's people's real life, i feel people like it simply because it's an uncensored story, media is so edited it seems refreshing to hear something uncensored, similar to horror films and Gangster films

Well ICE being the godfather of GR, I must disagree. I’m of the age to where I was there, and in LA. West coast gangster rappers grew up with different musical influences that’s east coast rappers did. Gang members and loweriders listened to funk as to where east coast rappers listened to disco …of course there’s cross over music but as a whole it was a different culture entirely. Gangster rappers rap to gangster music , it’s a whole cultural difference.

Ice Cube was just a spokesperson for gangsta rap based on his articulate writing talent. The title Godfather is earned in a respectful but street orientated way.

Original Gangster rappers. From the Bronx and Philly. PSK by Schooly D is the blueprint for 6 in the mornin' which is the blueprint for Boyz N The Hood. Justice was down with BDP. Had a song called Original Gangster of Hip Hop which was one of the first really explicit rap records.

RAPPIN' 4 TAY was alwayz PLAYER, never a gangster. Drake was quoting him on some rap player "studio to woman" metaphor. Too Short has always been a Pimp. Keep it straight now. Learn to rappers.
