In this video, I show you how to make a very easy infinite string farm that gives a lot of string and doesn't require a lot of recourses!
This tutorial shows you how to make an EASY Infinite String Farm In Minecraft 1.20, but it also works on older versions! With this farm, you can get tons of string in Minecraft. This is an infinite string farm. You can build this in survival.

Alrigt guys im here to clear everything up for you guys, after struggling for 15 minutes to get it working on 1.20.1 on a PUBLIC server, it finally works. Everyone is saying you have to build it south, so the hoppers have to face south into the chests. so basically north. If u build it north and it doesnt work do it the exact opposite. It should work

If you are on PAPER, do this to fix it:
If you aren't the owner; ask the owner
If you are the owner:
1. Go into server files
2. Config folder
3. Paper-config.yml folder (or whatever other config.yml file there is)
4. Set allow-tripwire-disarming-exploits to true
5. Save
(i dont know if this works for all paper servers, but this is how it is on aternos)

I have built this contraption in all 4 directions and I think I have figured out why it sometimes doesn't work. It appears to depend above which trap door the switch is. If you find it not working, just flop the block and switch that activate the trap doors. Hopefully this helps.

total:
111 wood
21 iron

Not working on the latest snapshot. instead of keep duplicating the strings it just duplicate the strings 1 times and stops working. probably this has been fixed
try switching the side of where the block and lever are, i am on 1.21 and it just duped it once then stopped, but i switched this and it worked! hope this helps

This farm gets you
4 string per second
14440 string per hour
You can sell string to a fisherman (20 / emerald). That gets you 720 emeralds per hour
That's 11 stacks of ems per hour and 80 emerald blocks per hour.
So... With this farm you can obtain full emerald beacon in 2 hours and 3 minutes!!!
You can trade to a fletcher for 13

Is anyone else having a problem where they’re breaking the string and flicking the lever and getting an extra one string back? Or in some instances it has worked for a second or two and stopped. I’m on 1.21 Vanilla.
I had the same problem just try switching which way it is pointing. try all four directions, it worked when I had it facing East
This is easily the most annoying farm to get started. It usually takes me 30-40 tries to get it going. Try moving the lever and block to the opposite trap door, or rebuild it facing a different direction. I just finished this in my newest world and it took more than 2 days of trying to make it work. If it dupes even once, your direction is good. Keep trying, it will eventually happen.
Moving the lever and block above trap door to the other trapdoor made it work for me the 1st try if that helps you any @WallyST675

for everyone that is stil strugling on aternos, you need to put allow-tripwire-disarming-exploits on true in the config settings. Open config in your aternos files, open paper global and scroll down and you will see it there.

It works but remeber to build it facing south and break the string closeset to the lever

I had the issue, but instead of it working when built south, it worked when I built it north 💀
Guys its not about the directions its about the string, what i mean is when u shear it sometimes it breaks and sometimes it glitches and stays there and then reconnects to the tripwire. thats how it dupes it self so just keep shearing until it glitches and then flick the lever. you will have like 1 second to do it so do it quick.

Ok, to clarify for everyone, this glitch works in all versions above 1.18, but only Vanilla/Bukkit/Spigot/Paper, not Forge or Fabric (not sure about fabric), but regardless, make sure the chests are south from the hoppers, and the chests are facing west. This means that the whole farm has to face SOUTH, NOT NORTH. Also, make sure to break the string while facing east yourself.
Also, you have to time switching the lever perfectly, so don't give up if it doesn't work first try.
In my experience, the farm works in Forge, but can't be built in Forge.

I tried in Forge Minecraft but it didn't work i tried every possibility but doesn't work
So when switched to vanilla version it worked perfectly
So in forge version the problem was from the sheers it didn't work like it should

for your info: the CHESTS have to be facing south from the rest of the machine. the mechanism faces north. its like an arrow that faces north.
Does not make any sense, how can you have the mechanism face the opposite of the mechanism if they are perpendicular?

works in 1.20.1 JAVA ONLY
HOWEVER
- make sure you're facing south (the front is where the chests are)
- use F3 and check the left side to find which way your facing.
- follow EXACTLY the placements of how the video shows you!

It's easier to do this if you set the frame rate to 10fps. This way, it will work in both mod and optifine environments. You can set the method from the video settings
please help, i've tried to build the farm in every direction, making sure that it was built right, yet I still can't get it to duplicate automatically. How do i fix :(

You might be building it on a chunk border... Try making it inside the chunk
Many dupers don't works if build on the border

3x4 hole. place chests facing the 3 blocks. fill the missing holes with hoppers. place the glasses on top of the chests (preferrably on top of the middle)

Water need to flow EAST, and you need to be very quick with cuting und activating it really needs to be fast. Tested with 1.20.1 Java. Works
Cutting the cord with the shears never worked for me, but flipping the lever up (to turn it off) did the trick. More sting than I will ever use! (Java, 1.20.4)

1.20.2 java doesn't work for some reason, at first i thought it was because of papermc, because that fixes a bunch of glitches, rn im on forge 1.20.2 and it doesb't work

Thanks a whole bunch, took about an hour of trying but it paid off! You have to click the string with the shears VERY quickly, otherwise it won't glitch and come back.

Ello, if this farm does not seem to be working for you on 1.21, it (may) works a bit different now, always build the farm in the north-ward direction, then when you get to placing the string on the tripwire hooks, make sure to left click a string with shears in your hand, and yes, it has to be shears, then press the lever, and let the water break the string.

You can build it North or South. Just make sure the lever is facing west
guys you dont need anything facing a certain direction if it doesnt work change the lever to ther other trapdoor

Contraption needs to be facing either North or south but the chests need to be facing west otherwise it won't work. Lots of questions being asked in the comments about this, It would sure be handy if people actually figured out the problem and posted it. I know some of y'all have had solutions but not the whole solution.
Edit: this seams to not work on Minehut servers but thats as far as I know. Would be a good idea to find out if your played server allows this dupe.

If you press F3 in the 4th Line of the second paragraph is written facing… and you have to assure that there is written facing east

Think of it like a loom. With sheep shears, you should be able to make string from wool blocks.

on 1.21 it often breaks after a few if that happens then switch the trapdoor that you put the block and lever on and it should fix it

So 1.20 is working with the string farm but recently the 1.21 doesnt work, UNLESS the world was made 1.20 and then put into 1,20, so in other words By making a world 1.20 and then turning it to 1.21, only then will it work

It doesn't work on 1.20.1 multiplayer server. I tried to face the farm in all the possible directions and it doesn't work. I tried to fix the time between cutting the string and press the lever have less than a second speed and then more than a second or a second but it didn't worked. I've spend an hour here for nothinh😭! Help me please. What in the world should I do???😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Got the same problem. It works fine in single palyer 1.20.1 but not on our server.
I figured that the string ISNT SUPPOSED TO BREAK when you hit it with the sheers but gets disarmed.
If you try it in single Player you will realise nothing Drops.
But in Mulitplayer it just breaks and I also dont get why

Water needs to flow east so you have to build the farm facing west
you need to get the timeing of lever down and then it does it infinitely

Yes, it works for me in 1.20.4. Remember to build it towards north (the water should flow towards south direction) and another thing I noticed is that it doesnt work when I use wood blocks to build the farm, So to be on a safer side build it with stone/cobblestone.

its still works in 1.20. just remember to build it with the hoppers going into the chest facing south. And break the string under the block not the lever.

The chest must be favoring south, and the back must be favoring north. The switch also needs to be on the right side. Hopefully this helps

If you're playing in a world where glass/sand is scarce you can use upsidedown stairs and they work the exact same way
DO IT FACING SOUTH, even on a multiplayer server, i used the block on the left side and then it worked for me :)

Still working in 1.20.4 but like people below said if it doesnt work the first time you have to rebuild it in the opposite direction ( if you built it toward east then you have to build it toward east )

It doesn't work on Forge, but in vanilla 1.20.6 it works. If it doesn't work, put your farm facing north, it works.

Works fine. Need be facing north while looking at trapdoors. Also there is specific timing to have between the cut of the wire and flicking the lever.
