    After posting my my video, Insta360 messaged me and said that was being dishonest with the portrayal of the situation. So here is my entire conversation that I had with Insta360 for full transparency and for you to be the judge. I’d like you to let me know in the comments. x.com/JevenDovey/status/1789429195803689399
    I made this video to bring awareness to the sponsorship disclosure issue. Hopefully this shines some light on this and helps move things in the right direction for this niche. If you want to work with Insta360 in the future, go for it. If you want to buy their cameras, go for it. I think their 360 cameras work great for certain situations, however, I am not going to work with them directly anymore.
    I hope that they can change their ways moving forward.

      Your video communicated your concerns and your dealings with Insta360 honestly. They were already in damage control from the Iphondo video - you can see them clearly admitting changes being made because they missed the mark without actually taking full ownership of the situation. They asked for full transparency - they got it!

      I could swear that something was up when ace pro was released. There are always some flaws in every product, but ace pro reviews where just super positive on everything. Some smaller reviewers (who did not have the camera) mocked the camera after release, then couple videos afterward they had Ace pro and it was the best thing since Jesus. Comparisons where heavily on just where Ace pro shined and most did not even talk about the Ace (cheaper model). Even in some daylight comparisons Ace pro was said to have best stabilization vs gopro hero 12 and dji osmo action 4, but when you looked the footage Ace pro was good, but definitely not better than GP or OA4 on most daylight scenarios. Then there was mixed information if you can change the lens, seems that some reviewers had version where you could. So they basically changed that you need to send it, just to get more people on the Insta360 care program. I love my Insta360 X2 and are planning to get X2 and for Ace Pro I admit that the lossless 4k zoom + night mode are really good features. My friend who has Ace pro said to me "if you are not doing action and want hand held camera, get the osmo pocket 3".

    Good video, and agree with everything here. I’d also take your “if it’s sponsored, it’s not a review” comment a step further: If you’re a creator and are sending a copy of your video to the company before and to approve, it’s not a review. It’s marketing, and frankly, should be disclosed. Same goes for sending creators exact titles, and even video hashtags to use for “reviews”. It’s marketing.

      I disagree, Sponsorship is a signed/binding contract in which you are PAID to do a specific job. Simply reviewing a product that was giving to you for testing is not the same. They are not binded or obligated in any way shape or form and giving complete discretion in their conclusion of that product. It's a way for companies to do trial and error and get their product out in the public, this method is not new, literally every company in the world does this including GoPro, DJI etc. Now, would your 'review' be bias or tainted, that's completely up to that individual and if they want to shoot themselves in the foot. Yes, I agree, it SHOULD be disclosed in your review/description that this product was provided by the company but it doesn't mean that the review is spoiled.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@MiyagisRant GoPro does not sponsor people to “review” their products. Nor does Apple, Garmin, and others. In fact, for GoPro’s sponsored athletes/creators, they aren’t even allowed to put “review” in the video/title. Inversely, Insta360 and DJI explicitly ask and provide titles including “review” in their sponsorship contracts.

    • @MiyagisRant
      @MiyagisRant 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Dcrainmaker Why I've got quotes around review. My argument was that companies send products out to content creators and end users to test and because of this, it's not an automatic sponsorship status. I understand what you're saying, GoPro like many others partner with athletes and content creators to created 'sponsored' content and they've been doing this from day 1. They also work with a lot of influencers for sponsored content and using them to market product give aways. Every company has their 'own' method of marketing, GoPro is no exception to the rule with slight variation in their methods. I think with todays exploding social media influence there's a lot of grey areas. I'm new to content creating and I'm still learning. But from selling cameras for almost 20 years and dealing with numerous company reps, I know their methods well ;)

    • @MiyagisRant
      @MiyagisRant 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Dcrainmaker And I also agree with you that Sponsored creators are not really 'reviews' as I've stated. You're basically 'employed' as a promotional content creator under the company's discretion. I was talking about individuals receiving free accessories to review, i think you misunderstood. I am one of those creators and I prefer not to be labelled as a sponsored creator, if so then I would like to be paid like one lol. And btw, I watch your stuff all the time, I'm a Garmin and HoverAir X1 owner ;) Nice videos.

      I agree insta360 is promoting shady practices and the deceitful marketing needs to be changed. However, for the consumer, do you think that should directly affect the decision to buy their products? I'm really conflicted because I think they truly have the best 360 camera and action camera currently on the market and also their app is the best right now. I totally understand this directly affects creators and understand the need to break ties and I would probably do the same if I was in your position. Just for context, I am not a fanboy just a fan of technology and constantly looking for the best product that fits my lifestyle. If you were just a consumer, would you never buy their products again?

      @@dogsrcoolply the way that I look at it, if this helps is that if their business practices are like this now, they most likely are like this in most/all avenues. How many people were stepped on? Hard work stolen from? Ideas taken and re-worked to make them their own? I am aligned with the item is the best out there now, but how did they do it? What other practices were and are being used that are illegal or shameful? With all of the new information coming out on Chinese companies allegedly stealing personal information and using GPS to gather intel with the videos and pictures we take to “spy”. I think (to myself) wouldn’t these insights on how they handle simple marketing make us as consumers start to consider that although great, maybe it isn’t worth it. Please don’t think I’m coming down on you. I agree with you in principle. It’s a super hard decision at the end of the day. Just my opinion and questions up top. It’s like if a Dictator made the best anything, that thing was made from poor working conditions, lying and stealing secrets from employees and other businesses. Would we still buy their product if it were the best? Just asking because this stuff isn’t all black and white. There’s so many accusations and gray areas to this, the DJI debacle and so many more newsworthy issues that are starting to surface around companies that are essentially controlled by their respected Countries. I would take a step backwards (not happily) if more information were to come out showing bad business practices personally. Hopefully a better company will come around. But the cost would be more. That alone makes me wonder how it’s done at this level. Anyways sorry for the rant. Again, please don’t think this is me coming at you. I respect your opinion wholeheartedly and am just asking questions. Maybe even to myself. This debate is super interesting. Thank you for your comment and making me think hard on this. I don't know how to react, to be honest. I do get products from them but I've never been sponsored and I never actually asked for sponsorship because I genuinely like the cameras and want to create videos my way... I am working on X4 right now and my stomach is getting very uneasy about all this. I am now very afraid that once I publish the video, I'll be attacked left and right in the comments.... on the other hand, there are other companies that are not to be trusted. I've had VERY BAD experience with DJI that completely used me and my content. They asked for my videos to be used in DJI Mimo in exchange for free product and that was 3 years ago. My channel was smaller but I had decent views.... I still keep their emails. I got nothing in return and when I emailed them how come I didn't get the promised gimbal as everyone else had it, they brushed me off.... so then they promised another product last year.... nothing... I will never give them anything again and I have no interest in working with them. If you see their product on my channel it is because I bought it myself.

      They've always said just do whatever I want with the video and have fun. There's never any specific points I need to "promote" or anything. I've had a great experience with them.

      You have the right idea... hunt for the smaller creators. You can really just assume now that any large channels here on TH-cam (especially those in specific niche's) are getting a LOT of product given to them. This is partly because TH-cam keeps squeezing creators and taking more revenue. You HAVE to get your audience off TH-cam now to make it a viable enterprise. I just assume now larger creators are promoting whatever they are presenting, unless they SPECIFICALLY state otherwise in the video. I know this because we have a small channel and we are CONSTANTLY getting bombarded by sponsorship emails for all kinds of random stuff, some that is related to our niche but most that has no bearing at all. We don't accept any of them and TH-cam punishes us for it, constantly asking us to tag products. The more YOU make, the more THEY take💯

    I´ve worked with insta in the past, and on the latest X4 and despite how much i love the X4 and the GO 3, this is not okey.
Fortunately there are good people working at insta360 which goes by the book, and of course people that don´t.
And this is a worldwide marketing issue with all brands, not only insta.
    I´ve never been asked to hide my sponsorships, nor delete or change parts of the video unless i got the technical facts or typos wrong by speed.
    So i can only go by my experience working with them which has been professional.

    I manage and run a TH-cam channel where we do a lot of end-user testimonials/reviews. This gave me a lot to think about- I’m grateful we’ve never been dishonest and let reviewers speak their thoughts honestly, good OR bad.
    We also never put the weight of having our reviewers do deliverables and treat them like a dedicated employee/editor. We collect their thoughts and put them out ourselves & even include the negative aspects of our product.
    I know the camera tech space is different- but damn, it sounds like a nightmare in dealing with these people.

    (I know am gonna read the FTC rules now)

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes. If you're "provided anything of value from a company" (quoting Google) to produce a video for them, then that's considered a paid promotion/sponsorship. Whether it's a fee for your time, commission, a free product or even a discount on the product, you need to disclose it by checking the 'paid promotion' box in the video settings before publishing.

    Well, I have been in the case of thinking of buying a product (literally the X4 too recently), and I had a hard time trying to identify if the review videos from creators were sponsored or not, especially if they are not mentioning that. Sometimes it's really hard to see if it's an honest review or not. That happens quite often tbh, and really appreciate that creators stands out to this, mentioning the importance of being honest to reviews, and saying clearly when the video is sponsored or not.

    I am a full time Creator and my work is all products sent to me for free. It is required by the FTC in America that if you are paid or get the product free you must disclose it in the video. Not just once but several times in the video in case only a portion of the video is viewed. A free product is considered a sponsorship even if you receive no other compensation because that product has value.

    Great Video and well done. My first impression of Insta360 was they were not a very ethical company. Not happy that I purchased an X3 and few days later, unannounced they released the X4..Those X3 now sell $200 cheaper, but somehow manage to send cameras out to content creators weeks before. If they were honest I would have paid extra for the X4 but they wasted my time..in that I returned the X3. Companies like Apple and DJI at least gave their audience some heads up. The second element is that the advertised 8K is not true 8K. The 4K on the X3 was at best 1080 to 2.7K which made some images blury, if you want to zoom in.

    Insta 360 doesn’t need these dirty practices, they are ahead of all competition with their cameras especially in the 360 space. They should only worry if DJI enters the 360 market.
