- Liszt's Consolations, also referred to by the title Six Pensées poétiques, reflect an atmosphere of sweetness and serenity. These miniatures portray a Franz Liszt bathed in light, indulging his pen in the ecstasy of contemplation. The source of this set of pieces may have been Lamartine’s poem Une larme, ou Consolation, which contrasts the “pitiless earth” that leaves the poet inconsolable (“Fall, silent tears, On an earth without pity”) with the tenderness of the divine word which can be his only comfort (“It is felt that thy tender word With others cannot mix, O Lord! and that it comforts Only those who could not be comforted”). While this suggests that Liszt finds his “consolation” in the divine word, these works are also arguably a tribute to Chopin, who had died in 1849, the year before the final version of the six pieces appeared in print. Liszt and Chopin, though rivals, were also friends, as Liszt’s Vie de Chopin (1850) attests.
As a source of profound transformation, consolation and even healing, and a means of acceding to a spiritual (not necessarily religious) life, music clearly has a role to play, and the influence it has on each one of us is most intimate and personal. Today, more than ever, listening to music provides us with brief moments of relief and relaxation that are essential to building up our inner world, our emotional individuality. Liszt’s courageous path towards light and serenity, provides a touching and liberating example of a man who assumed his consuming passions and sublimated them in the works he created.
What could be more successful than a life whose fruits continue to bring enjoyment to one’s fellow beings well over a century after their composition?

I am speechless, an outstanding performance by Beatrice, playing this soft is hundred times harder than playing hard. I heard so many performances of Listz’s Consolation No.3 by great pianists, neither are a match for this version. It looks her fingers are mesmerizing a lullaby for the ivory keys and waking them up delicately!
It took me almost a month to learn this piece, two performances inspired me the most, the magnificent version played by the late Vladimir Horowitz, and this outstanding version by Beatrice, anyone wants to learn this piece, I highly recommend to watch them in detail and pay attention to their articulations.
Listz composed his six Consolations in Nocturne style and in memory of his passed friend, Fredric Chopin, that is why they sound so Chopiny!

@@BeatriceBerruti met a boy here today, working in the front of a restaurant that just reopened. a conversation about the park finally being built nearby. turns out he was Swiss French, so of course i told him about the woman who should be a Swiss French national hero. . Turns out his town/village is close by Monthy (if spell it correctly)...but he does not know classical music, but it was still a nice coincidence. Hope the new compositions are making you happy..

This is just an incredible performance and really outstanding. The flow, the delicate touchez and the timing are just breathtaking !!!! I used to listen always to the consolation from Barenboim or Valentina Lisitsa considering these two performances as the best out there to my personal taste but I start to think that these two are blown away by this incredible beautiful performance. Absolutely great. Berrut, looks very different than in the 2nd movement of the Rachmaninoff Ni. 2 Piano Concerto. Either not to apart in time. Perhaps just the pandemic had taken a toll on her. But that is not important like it did on all of us. Her greatness as a pianist never faded.
