As a general rule I deal with dangerous situations by relying on the tried and true "drop a gear and disappear." But if I see the other party turning into a public parking area I follow at a distance and approach once they're out of the vehicle. I always begin the conversation with "Hey, I know you didn't *mean* to, but when you did that thing back there it put us both in danger." I politely ask them to please be mindful of motorcycles as we are very vulnerable out there, and just s single moment of distraction is all it takes for disaster to happen. If they're receptive I thank them for their time and consideration. That's how we change the public perception of bikers.
Papa Jefe Yeah, I did that once when I was shaking because I was so upset, but I took a few deep breathes. He parked, I parked, tried to calmly take off my helmet and gloves, and when I approached him, I let him know that I was shaking, but I would do my best to stay calm as we discuss what just happen. And we were actually able to have a calm, adult discussion, where we both left wiser then we started. He was a better person then most. My point is, if I hadn’t tried my best to exercise control and restraint, it wouldn’t have gone very well, I know this for sure! Just glad I am older, and have learned this approach is better. 👍
Also doesn't help when riders go off on drivers who did everything right before changing lanes: checked their blindspot, checked that the lane was clear, etc. only to have the rider then enter the same lane at twice the speed limit and complain about being "cut off". Or the riders who go off on drivers who see you at the last second and stop immediately - okay, they scared you, big deal, they saw you and did the right thing by stopping. Why would you then abuse the hell out of them?
Depends on which location one's at, if one would be, let's say in Europe or so where gun ownership is quite difficult for law abiding citizens, it could be somewhat of a challenging task to perform. Might I suggest one uses crossbows, wich are more easy to obtain than actual firearms, instead?
I make it a point to be very conscious of my blinkers; when I’m not on the bike, I drive a Cadillac. As I happen to be getting on a bit in age, I don’t want to be that old guy driving around in his Cadillac, going around the world to the right. lol
Great view on road rage, I agree with you that it's best to not get confrontational with drivers, best to let it go, we're to vulnerable! Really like your vlogs, you have a very calming voice and talk sense! I live in UK and see to much anxiety on roads ! Stay safe my friend and happy riding👍
Pull over take a deep breath, calm down and then keep going. Don't be the idiot who chases down the car and tries to mirror slap or try to correct the other person's driving. They are driving a battering ram with an engine. You're driving a missile with no protection. If push comes to shove you're going to lose.
Trust, this guy is on point 110%, I had an older guy pull out directly in front of me, I was doing the speed limit, he gained 3 spots to get caught at the same light, his window was down but yet he attempted to ignore, he also seemed impaired on something, seemed to me some type of pain medication, but do not know absolutely for sure, I went in on him, at the time it felt the thing to do, once home an the fear factor faded an the temper settled down, I wish id left the old fellow alone, I felt horrible an I have worked years to not be a hothead but yesterday I failed horribly, an this poor old fellow went home intimidated an scared although my point rang through loud an clear, I can't apologize directly to this guy today but in my heart im so sorry for mine and a life lesson hopefully was learned an i'll let it go next time an just be grateful and humble that it was a close call a near miss but not a direct hit on either myself or my bike and at the end of the day that's all that really matters is making it home again safe, I do not gear up go out gas up to be a dick or a hothead if that were my outlook why even ride or leave the house??? thanks for the video, hopefully mine will also help to, ride safe to all... D~
Love your attitude...I've seen so many videos where the biker has a go at a car driver and what you end up with is not one but two agitated drivers who are likely to drive angry and dangerously and it either ends up badly for either the biker, the car driver or both and other members of the public.
I guess the question I ask myself is, "what am I trying to achieve?" I'm not out to change people who probably dont care, I'm not out to get my eyes off the road while trying to get someone off their phone... I'm just trying to get home safe...I try anticipate stupidity and keep put of their way... Stay in my lane and get home safe 😎 Awesome video by the way!!
I like how you're very logical and level headed in these videos. I try to teach others in my group similar qualities. thank you for your videos and inspirations🙏
While in my car or on my bike I carry and my philosophy is, " Do not engage." No matter what. I do not respond to road rage. We have to be better than that. If there's an accident call 911, that's it.
I was cleaning the shop and working on my Airstream today. It was in the high 86s but late afternoon sun temperature was bumping 90. Start of the day we saw 69 F, which felt marvelous. Good message today GW, I hope it will make people think and maybe start being kind to each other. I also agree that loud pipes do nothing to alert drivers in front of you. Get a Stebel Nautilus mini air horn and use it if you need to and they will darn sure hear that.
Absolutely right. Great advice. For those who work in customer service, I know that you can relate to this! "Take a deep breath, put myself in their shoes, okay I'm ready now..."
The dilemma I always have about confronting drivers (regardless of what they are doing) is I will not do it if they are young men or just aggressive looking people, because I may ultimately come off worse! So I think if I am not prepared to confront them I should'nt confront women, elderly people. It would feel wrong to do so. So give them space and get away from them is perhaps the best course of action. Good topic, thanks.
Love your videos I agree, you should confront politely. Its very difficult sometimes. But Trie not to lose your head! Hi from Portugal, Lisbon! Im 42, Just got my bike drivers license, and my vulcan s. Im getting to now her. Loving her. thanks for the videos please continue your fantastic work 👍
Agreed, the driver will learn nothing if you yell and bawl at them, better to calmly tell them their mistake. That way they will come away learning something.
Great video and subjects. I enjoyed the back roads as much as I enjoyed the topics. As for the road rage part...We should think about how many times we didn't see a bike (while in a car) and had to make a sudden evasive maneuver in order to avoid a collision. Then maybe we will understand what the driver may have or NOT seen. Its a fight that we will never when. I just take a deep breath (to calm down) and keep rollin'. Roll safe.
I'm a rider, I've been riding since 1979 and have lost a few friends but its not all ways the drivers fault. Riders/Bikers drink and RIDE and ride drunk. Just recently a guy was leaving a bar and pulled right out in front of the car. And yes he had been drinking, everyone at the bar started posting pictures of the guy and in every one of them he was holding a beer. Moral of the story is it's not always the drivers fault.
I agree with your views on how WE should behave. It saddens and angers me though that many drivers do not have the same sense of responsibility. "I did not see you!" - you did not look. They're distracted - they should not be driving. Being old or making a mistake is not an excuse, I make a mistake, I kill me, you make a mistake, you could kill me. Driving requires as much concentration as riding a bike, period. About exhausts, I have a Triumph Thunderbird 900 and it's exhaust is nothing to shout about, I've recently got a KTM 790 Duke, and it's stock (Legal) exhaust is so much louder and I notice the difference in response from a lot of other road users. So maybe yes, some new model vehicles have superb sound reduction systems, but the majority of current road users know I am there and I can use that to allow myself space and time to react/respond to those that don't. Generally I, like most of us I guess, try and avoid incidents, I try and make eye contact with drivers on intersections, roundabouts etc so they cannot say they did not see me, they KNOW they did, we connected. Generally if needed, a blast on the horn or two finger salute is all I follow any non-contact incident up with. I boil inside for a while after though lol. Regarding mobile phone use, I am glad people in your area seem to abide by the law. Where I am the law is more a guideline, and from what I have seen is never enforced. People wobble over the road in their cars, I'm never quite sure if they are on their phone, drunk or both. Anyway, thanks for the vid, it is always good to have reminders from others to keep us on the sweet two wheel path in one piece :) Stay Safe :)
Personally I believe loud pipes do save lives. Not necessarily for traffic reasons but for deer. I live in the country and when I see a deer out in a field going toward the road, I'll blip the throttle and 98% of the deer will stop and stare in my direction. Now that hunting season is open for us and it's their rut, I have to be much more vigilant. Thanks for the video!
Even if no lives are saved, they sure sound good! There’s a guy that used to ride by my work with a clapped out liter bike/street fighter looking thing with a full exhaust and damn does it sound nice...
On the side note especially if the driver is stopped somewhere. You have to keep in mind especially if you're a bigger built guy you can look quite intimidating getting off your motorcycle especially if you're wearing full gear.
Been literally run off the road only once, by an old bloke driving a Volvo, But i just happened to be in his blind spot the moment he changed lanes. Been cut off a few times and only confronted one bloke (calmly) who said "He didn't see me" despite the fact he turned in front of me and my headlight was on. So now I just assume "nobody" can see me and everybody's potentially going to turn in front of me. Solves no problems to go off your brain at people, accomplishes nothing.
Hah. Just earlier today, I saw a guy stop his car in the middle of the road to shout at another driver who's vision was obscured by a parked van and (stupid as it is) a road sign. She did everything (in my eyes) correct. Slowly pulled out gradually, always looking. He simply came around the corner, not expecting her to be where she was, avoided her then stopped in front of her vehicle to point and yell. Meanwhile I shouted at him to "drive the bloody car and move" as his shenanigans could have easily caused further complications for anyone else that needed to take the same turn. It's easier to let it go then rise to the occasion and play the fool. If there's opportunity to talk it over, do so out the vehicle, with a cool head.
personally i don't rage. I live in England and i see a lot of people using phones, distracted drivers and people just not looking. Yes they say" sorry didn't see you" l just gave up saying anything, some people just don't care! Love the vids, keep it up dude
It is my job to read the traffic, plan on stupid stuff that will happen and avoid it...if you think for a moment you have the right if way on a bike, forget it, you don't! I keep out of blindspots, use the horn ALOT, and haul Azz to get myself away from idiots every day. If you think where you drive is bad, try Pittsburgh PA...the worst roads in the country, blind turns everywhere, deer having group parties on the streets, hills, lots of steep hills and the texting Robots that are worse than drunk drivers...but screw them, I love to ride!!!
Wise words. Cellphones (Mobile Phones, as we call them here) are illegal to use or play with while driving in Australia, yet you'd be appalled about the number of people that still do it. Not only talk, but also text while driving. It seems that even the $A700 plus fine and demerit points are not a deterrent to some people.....Tradies (Tradesmen) are the worst offenders. Have a good one. Cheers
Here in the UK its illegal to use any hand held device. Sadly still see it on a regular basis though. When I was on my first bike, many years ago, i tried to chase after drivers who had given me a close call, but it was only a 50cc so I never managed to catch any. When I got my 250 the first time I caught one I pulled up full of rage and righteous indignation, he wound down his window and, I didn't know what to say! In that moment I realised how pointless it all was and just cracked up laughing. I could see he was as shaken up as me so I asked if he was ok and went on my way. To this day, in those situations, I just shake my head maybe mutter a few expletives inside my lid, and carry on with my day. Great video and attitude Sir.
Nice vid bro. A confrontation will not change the error/close call that just happened, move on. Loud pipes do not save lives, that myth as been busted many times.
I mostly don't confront drivers. I'm usually running late anyways so it's not worth my time. I also figure if I do it introduced another variable out of my control. So, I just make my decision to keep doing what I'm doing and just adapt to the situation. Plus a car will win in the fight between my bike and it so I just keep rolling on. I do carry just in case someone wants to be crazy but that's a general protection thing more than just a bike thing.
Here’s one alternative, video the incident and then put it on TH-cam. Also try to get the license plate in the video so that other people will be warned if they see that car in the future. Because I can’t afford a car, I ride a bike around Brooklyn New York. It is not an easy town to ride a bicycle in and I wish I had nice empty streets like you to ride my bike on. Watching this video makes me want to start videoing my rides again so that when I come across situations I can post them on TH-cam.
Purple Panda mic, Sony external recorder. Just have to experiment with the right foam and dead cat to get the wind noise down. GoPro Hero 7 Black camera.
I even had a close call on a bicycle. Many times walking crossing the street. And off course snowshoeing. When skiers and snowboarders a want to come too close to me. And make it look like they want to knock me over. But they don't. So I know where you're coming from.
almost got ran over by a truck a month ago. scared the shit out of me, swerved away from him and came to a stop to catch my breath. The truck apparently had to take a left turn into a driveway. Instead of putting on his left indicators, he put on his hazards and came to a full stop. As there was no incoming traffic at the moment and there was a bit of time between him comming to a stop and me catching up at a slow pace, I didn't expect he wanted to turn left, so i put on my left indicator and started passing him. Just when I was next to him he started turning left. He scared the shit out of me, i swerved away from him and came to a stop to catch my breath. He parked his truck in the driveway and after that came over to blame me, because he had his hazards on. That really bugged be, because he should have known to use his indicators and his statement told me he knowingly didn't use his indicators. He didn't even ask me if I was OK, which pissed me off even more. I blew him off, telling him, if the police was around, he would have gotten a ticked for misuse of hazard lights and not using his indicators. He walked away angy after that and I took some more time to calm down before continuing on my way home.
From my perspective (55 year old male having driven since 17 and just taken up bikes - CBF1000), having used TH-cam video as a training resource where I can witness a lot of first-person-perspective near-miss experiences without risking my own neck, it seems that a significant number of situations that lead to biker road rage and mirror-slapping are posted by folks who drive too fast and fail to anticipate what the car driver is going to do. I don't want this to sound like an old geezer talking down to youngsters - its not about that, or about me saying I have some inbuilt skill or riding technique that is better than anyone else's. If anything it's the opposite - I know I have slower reaction time and don't have the experience of riding dirt bikes since I as 14 etc. Any time I have, or see, a near miss, I want to analyse what the build up was and when the evolving situation should have been recognised and how it could have been mitigated. Nothing is better than learning for free from someone else's mistakes. Regarding confrontations, I get that the natural adrenaline fuelled reaction is to vent at the driver or have a stop-line confrontation but I agree that if you can keep your cool and have a polite and level-headed chat with the driver then everyone will be better served. Instead of the driver thinking 'that guys was an idiot and it was all his fault', maybe you can influence them and get past their natural 'don't blame me, buddy' reaction and leave a thought like 'hey that guy was alright - I'm not sayin it was my fault but maybe I'll watch those mirrors a bit more closely from now on'. Thanks Clint for another thought provoking and enjoyable ride.
people in my state are always on their phones, 50% probably. Drive by people with heads down looking at their lap and don't even look up as a big truck or SUV drives by them on two lane
I don't like being tailgated and I'm not a drop gear speed off rider so I find a spot and pull over let them pass. My life/family is more important than wasting my breath, wrecking, or getting run over.
Great video, but I dont agree with following them into a parking lot to talk to them. Too many crazy people with guns might think you're wanting to fight them and could shoot you. If you cant emotionally handle close calls you shouldn't be riding. It's going to happen and you csnt act like the traffic police everyime a car doesn't follow the rules.
I agree that you should stay calm and politely chat to let them know what they done was wrong and how dangerous it can be therefor why to be more careful. But there are times where they not only will not accept their wrong doing (stopping them from learning from it) but are even aggressive/rude towards you. When that happens then fuck it, gloves are off and they will learn their lesson the hard way.
Recently I was on my way to meet friends for dinner. En route, a woman in the lane beside me, who appeared to be having an emotional conversation and obviously not paying attention to me being beside her, merged into my lane me and I had to take evasive action to keep from being hit. At the next traffic light I stopped beside her and she wouldn't look in my direction. The light turned green and we headed across the intersection, the lanes merged into a single lane and I fell in behind her as I continued on to my destination. As luck would have it, we were both going to the same restaurant and as I pulled into the parking lot two Police cars pulled in behind me and lit me up. One officer was rude/accusatory and the other was respectful. After telling me to get off my bike, I was accused of acting in a threatening manner toward the woman in the car. I replied that my following her was circumstantial, that I too was meeting someone there for dinner. With the Police permission I called one of my friends inside the restaurant and they came out and vouched for me. The Policeman that was acting like a jerk already had his handcuffs out and when I was cleared, he turned, didn't say anything to me, walked over to the woman who had stood beside her car during this whole time and said something to her and she went in the restaurant. The second Policeman apologized for the misunderstanding and I went in had dinner with my friends. When we were ready to leave, we learned our entire tab had been paid by someone else
I use to have a car on my way to work (this was over about a year). i would give them good room to the back of the car. they would put there back fog lights on. in day light was fine then come the dark mornings. clear sky's. would just blind me. so after about a week of this i overtake the car. just to get main beam in my mirrors all the way to the only shop open on my way i stop at daily (and they know this from the past). then one day they stopped behind me. i go back to the car to ask way the fog & main beam when i past them. just to get i call the police over & over. even got a pic of my reg plate. i said fine do what ever you have to i'm off to work. work that one out i never have to this day there are some odd people out there.
You make a good point, but at the same time there's a lot of distracted car drivers and the excuses they give are all the same, "I didn't see you..." If their distractions could never kill me I wouldn't be that mad, but unfortunately it's not the case.
You are assuming that "I didn't see you" is an excuse instead ot the truth! If you're in a blind spot, you're not being seen, it's the truth, not an excuse, distracted or not. I can only suggest to try defensive riding if you encounter so many close calls. As a sidenote, if you have the time to see someone is distracted, you were also not paying attention on the road at that point in time. Ride safe.
@@BrainHurricanes Some new riders could fit well in your comment. Fortunately for me with +2 million klm experience your comment is already useless. When some say they didn't saw a rider I don't think it's an excuse, and that's exactly the problem. Except for the obvious exception of the blind spot if some one says "I didn't saw you" you shouldn't be driving, the end. When I ride I don't put myself in blind spots, I know very well how to be visible safe and avoid dangerous situations, I drive cars and motorcycles for a long time and I know very well how it is. I also had a few friends dead by ppl driving drunk, sending messages, and distracted talking on the phone. After a few dacades of experience + close calls you naturally start to use your eyes and brain to understand why and how without being dangerous. When I ride If I don't pay attention I die, when you drive if you don't pay attention I also die. Many car drivers should pay more attention to Motorcyclists, ppl make many mistakes, have poor driving skills, and they are normally paying attention on everything except with their driving because they feel safe and untouchable in their metal box, this is the real problem!
@@Penafort You are not in other person's head, yet you assume things like "they feel safe and untouchable in their metal box". Have you spoken to those people and they told you they feel safe in their metal box ? I don't think so. In your favor, there are people straight up lying, there are people who can't drive well, just as there are riders who can't ride well and read the road or know when they are riding in a blind spot. Maybe where you live there are more people who can't drive or ride verry well. I can't even count the many mistakes other people make, but I see it comming before it happens and adjust my speed in advance before they become close calls. I'm glad my comment is useless to you and you allready own the power of defensive riding. What I don't agree with is the way you think about "mistakes" people make. That the same mistake for 2 different ocasions should be different (in your mind). Like one causes some serious dents and the other nearly killed you, same 2 mistakes. Don't you think the person that made the mistake allready would feel verry embaresed by the first one and verry verry guilty by the second one ? But again, if you live in a place where there are more people with more hear than brains, you could be right. They don't feel remorse. You could benefit a lot by also owning the power of forgiveness and giving up on the poison of accusing, being judgemental and unforgiven. I wish you many more million km of safe riding and enjoying life with a smile on your face, even if my comment seems useless to you.
@@BrainHurricanes I understand and I'm sure you completely right in many situations but not everyone is like you describe, I wish they were all like that, humans don't like to admit guilt and ppl like that never learn. Like everything in life you get a better perspective when you are frequently in both sides of the spectrum. Look at TH-cam motorcycle close calls and you see what I mean, a small mistake/distraction in a car can kill some one in a motorcycle. Of course I know this ppl that I talk about are not the majority but they are the ones that are prone to kill you if you ride, that's why it bothers me.
The only thing I do to people if they endengered me on the road and somehow we still ended up next to each other on the next intersection is politely asking: "Are *you* okay?". Throws them off, usually, but I knew what I was doing getting on my bike that morning and see no point arguing. Usually we don't end up next to each other because there's no reason to share the road with reckless drivers if you can avoid that. Also, sometimes they're oblivious to what happened and calmly explaining it is enough to start the inner guilt trip. I think it works better than raging out. Mirror messing is only justified with hit-and-runners.
as far as loud pipes, bs. doppler effect . example : you see a train in the distance quickly approaching . you don't really hear it until it is directly in front of you and passing you. i agree that is s crock of shit. i will say this , and i have a very quiet bike and would like to make it more quiet....at red lights etc i see/hear a lot of motorcylist's rev the throttle to alert nearby motorists. i witness that daily. not sure if its effective . i just obey the laws and always hope for their safety as well as other motorists. life is short , have fun but be safe
Excellent content. IMO not doing something when you see someone not driving correctly is also leaving them to lay down the next bike. Calm and cool like of course, just like me watching that video...hopefully it can make myself and them maybe at least think twice before we do something stupid.
Funny I came across this vid, just had an incident today. Was leaving work for lunch, in the left lane to head left on a traffic circle. Car next to me was in the right lane. This particular intersection is atrocious, an absolute engineering abomination. Basically you have to pinch it to get onto the circle and make the light. Well, the dick head on my right punches it but cuts me off so he can go left. I know he saw me, wasn’t in a blind spot, we were all stopped at the yield together. Basically he miscalculated because I sped up. Man was I pissed. I followed because we were going the same way, but didn’t have an opportunity to confront. I cooled off, let it go and made it a learning event. I’ll never leave work via that intersection, at least not during heavy traffic, it’s too dangerous, too many people moving too quickly, not really sure where they’re going. I’ve had a couple true accident type close calls, I get those, that’s why I stay out of blind spots, approach intersections with caution and leave looooots of following distance. But jerk offs that are being assholes? They require a conversation at the next stop.
I never rode a motercycle. However, after 10+ years of cycling I learned that road rage is completely unnecessary. It solves nothing and it could cause you to get hurt or killed at worse; at best you feel like a assclown.
Another thing you should have brought up is the fact people are caring concealed weapons. With peoples rage you don’t know if they are going to pull out a gun at you
Ha! I had to laugh when you said about that you are lucky enough to live in a state where it is illegal to use a hand held device, ie cell phone. I too live in such a place, PA to be exact. Actually I think it’s illegal in almost all New England states, but anyway. You’ll still see a good percentage of car drivers still using their cell phones
Yeah it's illegal in plenty of places but people do it anyway. They don't realize just how much of what they're doing we can see. I've seen a guy, on the freeway, watching porn while driving. Dude. Can you *please* put it back in your pants? I don't want to die just because you couldn't wait five more minutes to catch a glimpse of Sasha Grey? I promise she isn't going anywhere.
@4The2nd Everyone from every state says they have the worst drivers. I've traveled through 35 states and at least as many countries in my time, and what I've found is that they suck everywhere.
1:30 what a view. On another note it depends on ones temper. Some spark from nothing, others are calm as fuck. I fall somewhere in between. I can take a "Sorry I didint see you" shit, it happens, it happens to me too. But if your ass cant see me because you are on your phone, god pray for your ass.
i just cannot hold my temper , wish i could but saying that if its an old civilian or disabled i do calm down but i always regret later having slapped someone silly
I've let most everything go. I get it. Most people didn't see me. Most people are stupid. I'm not worried about it. However, i had a neighbor literally run me down and was inches from my tire as we left the hood. I wasn't speeding or being obnoxious. I have no idea why he did this. Young guy. I let him pass and he then ran the stop sign and a light. I did chase him down and flipped out on him. He did all that just to go to the atm. I honestly think he moved now. 😂
There was a law passed before I was born I am pretty sure and I am 53 officially as of today. 😎 That law is do not drive while distracted. Pretty simple. What pisses me off is the fact that the law was already in place, but the government thinks that they have to make new laws for the same thing. I am sure that there 20 something laws that cover the same thing but spelled out, like do not drive while eating, reading, shaving and so on. Then Ga made a new law last year, no driving while texting or using the phone. It is is a waste of tax payer money and time. The first law was clear, no driving while distracted! They give drivers tickets for being on their phones, but not for eating, putting on makeup, reading or anything else, unless they are involved in a crash. Not an accident, there are never accidents but crashes because someone did something stupid or something that they were supposed to do but didn’t. It just burns me that politicians think adding new laws with different wording about the same thing is going to change things. If the police would just enforce the laws we have, things would change. A lot of agencies are short handed, sometimes having only two officers for an entire shift. But county and city governments either don’t have the money or more likely divert to less important things like pet projects, parks and so on. The funding that is cut first are police and emergency services. Sorry for the rambling but, in close calls which I have had very few, I mostly remain calm and chew them out politely, no cussing just a polite one way conversation then move on. The ones I will raise my voice on if I was nearly killed. The one thing that should be remembered is that you never know if someone is carrying a firearm or other type of weapon. I carry and have only had to draw once, and that was when a road rage incident occurred and a guy was yelling at the car behind him, then opened his trunk and pulled out a tire iron, went back to the other driver still in his car and raised it to hit him. I drew my weapon and yelled at him to stop. He did, got back in his car and drove away. Be aware of people and be prepared to defend yourself. You never know whom you are going to meet if you stop to talk to them after a close call or crash.
It’s like politicians wanting to outlaw guns after a shooting. Murder is already illegal. Making more laws changes nothing. Laws are for the law abiding. Criminals do not obey them. I agree with you 100%
I don’t think that it’s a good idea to talk drivers after a close call, you don’t know who they are or what they will do and it will ruin your ride. It’s a given that people are going to cut in front of you, they sometimes just don’t see you and for the most part they didn’t do it on purpose. They usually know when they’ve cut you off. Yes, just get passed them. And I do think that louder pipes do get your attention or maybe because I love the sound of a harley. I think electric bikes will be more of a problem with practically no noise at all. Anyway I still enjoy your videos!
Should not be confronting drivers, instead just learn how to anticipate them and stay out of their way. They are just cars and stuff, objects to navigate past, pretend they don't have drivers, coz that will be true some day.
Another excellent thoughtful video. However, my point of view is slightly different. I don't think there is any situation with a car driver that presents a good teachable moment for that driver. So as much as I might like to approach a driver politely and calmly, the chances of creating confrontation is much greater (IMO) than educating someone. You might feel calm, but they can't see your calmness, and will likely feel defensive or even frightened. You aren't going to teach them anything except that motorcyclists are aggressive. I think we're better to just keep riding and finishing the ride safely.
Little dogs really shouldn't bark at big dogs. ...and if you're on a motorcycle, you're a little dog. All those cars and trucks are the big dogs. Btw... I'm in Tennessee. People will shoot you here, if you scare 'em bad enough... or if you piss 'em off. Think about that.
I hate seeing bikers get cut off then go out of their way to "have a talk" with those people. You not only break a bunch of traffic laws but you look like an idiot as well. You're alive and yelling at someone you chased down wont make your situation never happen so just keep on doing your thing. If I am in the truck and my dad starts raging I tell him "it's over with, what is yelling going to solve?". BTW what is the song at the end called? can't find it when I type the lyrics. :/
if someone ever gives the excuse "i didnt see you" thats a sign they shouldnt have a license in the first place, idk how many hours and miles i have driving cars before i got my mc license but i have only ever missed one vehicle, a car. i had the sun straight in my eye and i was about to enter a roundabout, i am however a reasonable person, so i didnt fly in to the roundabout and thus i could stop before even entering the roundabout with ease and there was absolutely no issue. anyone that at any point claims to not have seen a vehicle after a close call is not worthy of their license in my opinion and any ill that befalls them that makes them rethink their driving i am for. doesnt mean i endorse violence, im just saying you reap what you sow, pay attention and show some respect to your fellow human beings for nuts sake.
Not necessarily true. If someone says that they didn't see you, it's because you weren't there when they checked. No one expects you to be doing 120 in a 60 zone. At those speeds, you can suddenly appear beside someone who did a shoulder check just a second ago. You're not above the law, stop speeding and acting like you're the traffic police.
By your own logic, Chuffled, you “shouldn’t have a license in the first place”. You *admitted* to not seeing a vehicle. And that’s just the one you’re *AWARE* of. The fact is the way our eyes and brains actually *work*, there’s a lot of things we don’t actually *see*, even when we’re looking for them. We actually focus on small portions of our field of vision, and our brains fill in large sections from memory. (That’s actually why it’s more stressful to drive in unfamiliar areas. Your brain has to actually process more of your vision to give you a ‘complete picture’. You’re no different than anybody else on that count. You just think you are. And that probably means you’re *worse* than many.
@@Kataroku i kinda thought it was obvious that if youre doing that then the blame is all on you? apparantly it was not obvious, im talking about when youre going the speed limit, who in their right mind would think its the other persons fault when youre going twice the speed limit? your response is so unnecessary that my first thought on reading your comment was "duhh"
Don't remember where I heard it it might have been another youtuber or maybe philosophy class but it changed my whole life and how I deal with people and situations. It went something like every time you let another control your emotions you have become a slave to that person. Since then it is very very hard to get a rise out of me, especially something stupid like pulling out in front of me or not seeing me when you went to change lanes. Don't be anyone's slave, relax, life is too short to be pissed at the world. Oh and the loud pipes save lives is total bullshit! Today's cars are so soundproof it is hard to hear emergency vehicles let alone your "loud" exhaust that is projecting noise behind you by the way not around you or in front of you.
I wouldnt waste my time creeping down drivers. But when they do a oncoming close call overtaking, they are getting the finger as they pass. Just enough of a statement to get the point across.
Completely agree. We are chihuahuas attacking great danes when we "attack"
Lol. That’s one way of seeing it! Thanks for watching, Dan. Long time sub here.
Scooby Doo is a great dane. Why would anyone want to upset him?
So true, you cannot rage on a bike. You gotta keep your head. People make mistakes, expecting it makes you a better rider.
You are such a gentlemen, motorcycle community need more rider like you.
Yes they do.
Vincent Yu I know, right! This is a good guy!
As a general rule I deal with dangerous situations by relying on the tried and true "drop a gear and disappear."
But if I see the other party turning into a public parking area I follow at a distance and approach once they're out of the vehicle.
I agree. I wave to those drivers.
So let me get this straight, shooting their tires is a no go?... 😏
Crazy Aces you can shoot one tire, but only one
Depends on which location one's at, if one would be, let's say in Europe or so where gun ownership is quite difficult for law abiding citizens, it could be somewhat of a challenging task to perform. Might I suggest one uses crossbows, wich are more easy to obtain than actual firearms, instead?
therealgerold yes this is a problem here in Europe. Which is why I like to use a knife on a long stick!
We could just pepper spray the driver. 😎🤘
therealgerold
And a great visual deterrent hanging off your back.
Blinker blinker blinker I leave you on all day, blinker blinker blinker I wish you'd go away.
lmao classic !!
Once again , spot on ! Another fine example of being a good human being ! ATGATT
I guess the question I ask myself is, "what am I trying to achieve?"
I'm not out to change people who probably dont care, I'm not out to get my eyes off the road while trying to get someone off their phone...
I'm just trying to get home safe...I try anticipate stupidity and keep put of their way...
Stay in my lane and get home safe 😎
Awesome video by the way!!
Spot on Brother, the world needs more cool people.
I like how you're very logical and level headed in these videos. I try to teach others in my group similar qualities. thank you for your videos and inspirations🙏
awesome video and point of view... i totally agree... I needed to hear this!
While in my car or on my bike I carry and my philosophy is, " Do not engage." No matter what. I do not respond to road rage. We have to be better than that. If there's an accident call 911, that's it.
Found your videos this morning. Great content. Subscribed.
Love your videos
I agree, you should confront politely. Its very difficult sometimes. But Trie not to lose your head! Hi from Portugal, Lisbon! Im 42, Just got my bike drivers license, and my vulcan s. Im getting to now her. Loving her. thanks for the videos please continue your fantastic work 👍
Love you viewpoint and your content. Thanks for the videos!
Roll safe.
Subscribed bc you have some of the most interesting topics to talk about
I'm a rider, I've been riding since 1979 and have lost a few friends but its not all ways the drivers fault.
Let them be..Stay cool just enjoy the ride.
Love the video! Great attitude and logic. Also, what was that song at the end? Very beautiful
The song is ‘Will You Wait’. Not sure who the artist is..
I think you're right. Losing one's temper on a motorcycle isn't good.
That looks like Eastern WA. I agree with you... confronting others on the road can escalate quickly.
Good job, brother!
personally i don't rage. I live in England and i see a lot of people using phones, distracted drivers and people just not looking. Yes they say" sorry didn't see you" l just gave up saying anything, some people just don't care! Love the vids, keep it up dude
i look out for them, not vicea versa.43 years riding not one call.
Hey man, tell me about your GPS on your Vulcan S, what is it and how do you have it mounted?
i've driven motorcycles many years. i learned that have to be defensive all the time. you can be hurt or dead, the moto rider always lose..
What’s the song and artist at the end of this video?
Will You Wait... artist unknown
What kind of mic do you use to vlog and how u avoid wind noises and what set up u use to vlog.
I refrain from doing it because I know and realize I do have a temper. Maybe because of the Texas heat, still upper 90’s here.
Mind if I ask which state you're in? There are so many beautiful sceneries in your videos (compared to other motorcycle youtubers).
Central Washington state 👍🏻
Amazing. Thx for the answer. I'm from Denmark where the temperature has started to drop too with the onset of fall.
I don't like being tailgated and I'm not a drop gear speed off rider so I find a spot and pull over let them pass. My life/family is more important than wasting my breath, wrecking, or getting run over.
Exactly.
Like I said, use your best judgment per the car/driver
I will admit I have taken a few mirrors off when I was younger. But now I just ride as if every cage driver is out to kill me.
Just know almost everyone on the road is stupid, don’t let it ruin your ride. Be ready for it.
What’s the song at the end?
New sub to your channel ! Good stuff ! Thanks !
would appreciate your feedback on my channel if you have the time! anonymous biker usa! if you like, kindly consider subscribing! thank you!
I have come to realize I am not the Road Police......I am alot calmer now
I agree that you should stay calm and politely chat to let them know what they done was wrong and how dangerous it can be therefor why to be more careful.
Sounds like she called the cops thinking you were following her..? Good ending to the story though.
I typically touch the eyes through my tinted shield on my helmet and point it at the car or all cars I'm around. Or air text while shaking my head.
I think I would have altered my daily commute a bit to avoid that psycho!
Loud pipes trigger some peoples PTSD.
The worst thing about this, is that people actually think it’s cool to do.. I absolutely hate those videos
I ride interstate five daily. Idiots on the phone all the time. And no loud pipes don’t save a life.
You live in a ghost town. There are no cars on the roads you ride. Wish I could have that kind of traffic free roads to ride and relax on.
I never rode a motercycle. However, after 10+ years of cycling I learned that road rage is completely unnecessary. It solves nothing and it could cause you to get hurt or killed at worse; at best you feel like a assclown.
Enjoy the ride.
Another thing you should have brought up is the fact people are caring concealed weapons. With peoples rage you don’t know if they are going to pull out a gun at you
I carry a gun myself. I go out of my way to avoid confrontations.
But if your ass cant see me because you are on your phone, god pray for your ass.
i dont confront drivers for the fear of them shooting at me.
i just cannot hold my temper , wish i could but saying that if its an old civilian or disabled i do calm down but i always regret later having slapped someone silly
That law is do not drive while distracted.
I agree with you 100%
Gas Works are you in or near Ga?
Cool video 👍 👍 Everyone Be Safe Out There 🤜 🤝😎
I don’t think that it’s a good idea to talk drivers after a close call, you don’t know who they are or what they will do and it will ruin your ride.
Sometimes people just screw up. Be a diplomat for our lifestyle. Live and let live.
You don't hear loud pipes coming, you hear them going. LIGHTS are much better ways of being seen before you get yhere.
Should not be confronting drivers, instead just learn how to anticipate them and stay out of their way. They are just cars and stuff, objects to navigate past, pretend they don't have drivers, coz that will be true some day.
You’re right about that..but I think you and I will be long gone by then.
I think patience comes with age Gas works
My middle finger does the talking.
Дай дураку дорогу - the 3 D's as we call them in Russia: idiots have right of way
Another excellent thoughtful video.
You may find the Survival Skills page on Facebook enlightening about "close calls" and near misses. facebook.com/SurvivalSkills
The song is called “will you wait”
@@GasWorksISO Thanks.

if someone ever gives the excuse "i didnt see you" thats a sign they shouldnt have a license in the first place, idk how many hours and miles i have driving cars before i got my mc license but i have only ever missed one vehicle, a car. i had the sun straight in my eye and i was about to enter a roundabout, i am however a reasonable person, so i didnt fly in to the roundabout and thus i could stop before even entering the roundabout with ease and there was absolutely no issue. anyone that at any point claims to not have seen a vehicle after a close call is not worthy of their license in my opinion and any ill that befalls them that makes them rethink their driving i am for. doesnt mean i endorse violence, im just saying you reap what you sow, pay attention and show some respect to your fellow human beings for nuts sake.
I yell at them everytime. I also carry old dead batteries and throw at them. It makes them so 😠 😄 🤣
