In the British territories in the south there was a similar move away from the idea of Permanent Settlement. The new system that was devised came to be known as the ryotwar (or ryotwari ). It was tried on a small scale by Captain Alexander Read in some of the areas that were taken over by the Company after the wars with Tipu Sultan. Subsequently developed by Thomas Munro, this system was gradually extended all over south India. .

They fought with tipu sultan and won his territory and as the diwani right were given to them so they can collect revenue
Tipu sultan was the ruler of mysore apart of Southern india. So tipu lose and the britishers got the rights of diwani

Hi so basically the ryotwari settlement was practised in a small piece of land in south India . So now they say the British wanted to act like a paternal father to the ryots. So now to build that trust they would have arranged some translators and etc as the British would be capable of doing this when they were capable of capturing a whole country.

The system was initiated by captain alexander read and was gradually developed by Thomas munro.
There was no thirdmen in this system .the britishers measured the land , fertility and estimated the revenue the farmer could pay. The colonial officers went to the ryots aka cultivators or farmers and they directly collected ut from the ryots . Britishers acted as a paternal figure to the ryots , how? If zamindar was explouting them to give more revenue intead of that they themselves went and took the revenue .hope it helps
