I got me one them IETS GT500 and man that thing works like a champ on my OrginPC/Clevo x170km-g with a Desktop i7 11700K and a Laptop RTX 3080 and man it really brough down the idle temps by a good amount both the CPU and GPU the GPU is at a temp to where the fan doesn't even have to run. I am to the point where my CPU went from Iding in the low 50s to the high 30s to low 40s C. And my GPU is Idling at 33C from the 40s C. You can't beat that. IETS got it right by running the cooler from Wall power instead of USB on top of their sealed system that they have.

Trying to find a cooling pad for the blade 18 I bought was a bit of a search. Most coolers don't support large laptops. I ended up with the AICHESON AA2 gaming pc cooling pad. I'm averaging about 8 degrees cooler. Highly recommend it. After watching your video I'd knock it a bit for lacking a dust filter.

Thanks for cutting off the vid with the GT500 before showing us the CB score. I feel like I wasted 20 minutes of my life to that point as that was what I was waiting for the most, to see a real all core stress test score with what I was hoping would be the best cooler. You can be SO weird sometimes when you do stuff like that so nonchalantly. You showed us the CB for the cheap coolers but not the good one. MAKES SENSE BRO!

BTW all that is just about raw power, your PC still needs low DPC latency to perform truly well at high loads on Windows. i.e. you need a DPC latency of below 200 microseconds to truly make use of all the threads especially if your audio interface is set at under 512 buffer.
I have spent thousands of real hours benchmarking various PCs and Macs in various DAWs, pushing them to the extreme. I also designed the Logic multitrack cpu test although that is very outdated now.@@Crittek

Hey, I've been thinking of getting that same model of Lenovo, but with a 4070 and an Intel i9-13900HX. Do you think there will be a difference in the temps with this processor, I've heard you say that Intel should have lower temps if I'm not mistaken.
Also, I did notice that there is a VRAM issue with the QHD screens at full res, but I haven't seen an option to get the same config with FHD in my country.
Is there going to be a difference in the screen quality between this laptop's QHD screen downscaled to 1200p vs a native FHD 1200p?
I haven't seen a straightforward answer to this, as most people seem to be talking about the quality because of the screen size that usually comes with QHD.

his laptop is using significantly stronger hardware so he's getting significant heat, and that thermal throttling keeps him from ever reaching his peak performance. with the cooler he gets way more thermal headway and is able to fall well below the thermal throttle limit, which is huge in and of itself.
Say the max performance requires a 10c drop, but would still just be 1c from thermal throttle limit since the hardware will now power up more, any additional cooling below that will not show as a 20c increase.
Think of it like this. if you are 95c, if you drop 10c but it pushes up to the limit now with new power, it will go to 95c again. But if you are getting 20c it would essentially be 85c-90c because of the extra room you pushed, but now have much safer and reasonable temps which prevent massive framedips and stuttering.

gt500 - or any other for that matter would be of help? I have an ASUS Duo 16 coming in this week and 7945HX and the Nvidia 4080 - 64GB 4800 RAM and a well regarded 2 TB SSD. As the bulk of the intake is below the secondary screen, I'm wondering if there is any cooler that would work for it. I have read (perhaps not correctly?) that little air comes in thru the bottom vents.
Mind you, I will do very little gaming with it - mostly highly utilizing those big 16 Performance cores so I am mostly interested in cooling that. Perhaps tweaks using Armory Crate is my best bet?

Put the research in and make sure it's long lasting and not going to break on you in 6 months. $30.00 and up is a good starting point. The fans with rgb lighting make it easy to identify if a fan stopped working. Always get multiple fan cooling pads.

They will only spin as fast as they are able to regardless, all it really is doing is cooling the air going into the laptops internal fans a little more then it would have bin. It's very important to note laptops are different and have fans in different places and flowing the air in and out differently from others. So not all cooling pads will be designed in a way that would be effective but instead possibly counterproductive. I'm still undecided if which ones I should try with my laptop

  • @TesGon

In my HP laptop intake( the place where it heats the most) is in the left top corner. So cooling pads with 1 central fan will never work. It needs a setup of 5-6 fans where 1 fan is EXACTLY below the intake. Only then it starts to help. Also lifting laptop ( preliminary on a thick book) will help reduce heat by a LOT. So sometimes its just good to place it on a stand ( thats not blocking the intake) and your done!

Man this video really saved me a few hours of research. My laptop started getting hot in the high 80s and I have two house fans blowing on it and got it down to the 60s while gaming but clearly I want to downsize the table and two fans next to my desk. I have a HP omen 015 with the R7 and the nividia 1660ti 6gb GPU and I upgraded to 16gb ram I think I will do 32 gb in the future but solve the heat problem first. Idk if maybe the fans just need to be replaced internally that they may have gone bad but they are spinning and flowing air it's just hot air coming out. Could my extra 3.0 USB monitor be adding the extra heat possibly. I have it set up like a desktop essentially.

80 degrees while gaming in a laptop isn’t terrible. You’re supposed to feel hot air coming out that’s heat not being trapped inside the laptop. But yes cleaning fans and changing thermal paste (correctly) will bring temps down. Laptops will always run hotter in nature due to space and cooling restraints. As long as your not actually thermal throttling which at 80 degrees I imagine your not, then you are fine.

with todays better fans or cooling systems & hotter processors used in laptops, won''t those best vacuum coolers - with laptop stand in place to let air flow going from bottom vents - works better in pulling heat from internal to out better than traditional coolers which push cold air into enclosed chassis as we have much better & capable cooling systems in laptops compared to past?

If you go watch videos testing the vacuum coolers, most of the time they don't outperform the traditional fan stands.

I don’t think you understand the concept of “Thermal Throttling”. Just because you hit 100 degrees doesn’t mean your automatically thermal throttling. Thermal throttle happens when your cpu hits TJ Max then your clocks will drop substantially (almost in half) to prevent the processor from cooking itself.

The biggest issue with most of these stupid "coolers" is that they try and power the devices with USB 5V. You need 12 volts if you want to really move air with a cheap-o non-pwm fan. At least the IETS GT500 variants have a 12v external power supply.
