Which Car Dryer do you use?
Hi dave , today I picked up 2 used ones on Facebook marketplace for £15
Wanted one for ages for grills and wheels
I use DeWalt cordless leaf blower..is it better and stronger than DeWalt this pet dryer
Have you thought of a leaf blower?
Just bought this dryer so thanks for sharing. Cheers
I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
B&d is a ok brand but it breaks after often usage. Thats my exp with it but its powerful
That is ingenious! Never thought of it and the ones here are like $600 but the pet dryer is a fraction of that and includes speed and temperature controls. Thanks for the tip!!!!
Thanks very much. Hope it helps 🙏
I stumbled accross this video by chance. Totally agree with it 100%, I'm a keen amateur detailer, not a pro and bought my dryer, having spent a fortune on it, and started using it on every weekly wash, but it just turned into a ball ache. I still use it, but not as often. I also use mine probably more on the interior these days than the exterior. Great video, very interesting
Thanks mate. Yeah it's one those tools that's good but not always essential
Great video Dave, I'm still busy with the microfiber towel drying method but will definitely look into getting a car blower...great video thanks 👌
Thanks mate
Your becoming on of the best detailers keep making videos plus show us all your tips and tricks and in no time i think you can definitely become 1 of the top 5 detailers ever think how many subscribers you'll have. Keep up the great work
Thanks mate. Sadly I don't do enough disaster details to become one of the biggest but I'll keep going 🙏
Thank you for the video Dave. I hadn't thought of using a pet dryer as a car dryer before so greatly appreciate your tips. 👍
Thank you Karl appreciate it mate
Hi man, just want to say a big thank you for ALL the info you share. I cleaned a friend's car using your and forensic details methods and a good shampoo ( karcher cos it came with the k2 ) and it came up so well! Her friend saw it and asked if I could clean her car. Excellent! Many thanks, genuinely.
Thanks very much my friend
I will definitely be looking at these, great video
Thanks mate appreciate it
I have a couple of pet dryers and they are brilliant, great video and advice as always
Thanks dave for clarifying about the drips after drying lol, had this problem many times and it used to drive me crackers especially when you knock on the customers door to say your finished and you get a streak of water running down the door, embarrassing sometimes. I have a metro vac side kick it’s ok for doing grills, mirrors, door shuts and badges but a whole car I’d say no it’s too small. I have even seen some detailers use an 18v cordless hand blower it does the same but without the worry of power cords scratching bodywork.
Thanks Ian yeah I may get a cordless blower for the practicality over using wires
I use the EGO 5800 leaf blower. Had a Metrovac which I absolutely hated, a pain to unravel, plug in, drag around the car, constantly getting snagged and falling over etc. The leaf blower is not only more powerful but it's so convenient, just pick it up and go. 2-3 minutes around the car and the job is done.
That's a great idea and I will be getting a pet dryer now for sure. I currently towel dry my car and then use a Karcher WD1 vac in blower mode to dry the mirrors, tyres etc but a pet dryer looks more powerful
Yeah I use it for small areas but sometimes u use it in the inside too
Great video Dave. going to look into this grandpa dryer seems a winner for the noks and crannies
Thanks my friend
That's ingenious. Brilliant idea 👍
Thanks Chris 🙏
Excellent video Dave!
Thanks Paul. Was hoping to film this outside with a demonstration but been working on few other bits
Great vid Dave, I have debated about getting one more for the winter months.
Thanks Mate
Great video, and great tips as always ,love the video, got to say going to check the pet dryers, going to check the 1 you mentioned👍🤣
Thanks Paul. Buy some ear plugs though I forgot to mention it's louder than a jumbo jet
I completely agree with you on the time used blowing out you car with a dryer. I realized that I spend at least 30 min to 45 min blowing out all the crevices to prevent drips. Just hard not to cause you want the car spotless haha
Thank you
Thanks for the advice!!
Great, honest, obviously-not-sponsored video! You are such a down-to-earth person with no BS about you, and that’s so refreshing. Too many other reviewers are basically disguised salespeople for product placement. You can tell when they all simultaneously start detailing cars with the same products. NO WAY that happens in real life. These days it’s hard to tell if the reviewers aren’t just touting a product because they got free samples or were paid behind the scenes. As for the blower, I was strongly considering the BigBoi and had it pending in the online cart, but saw an earlier post of yours and changed my mind. So, I decided to save space in my garage AND money in my pocket by using the blower side of my shop vac. It has a filter and it blows heated air at a very high rate with various attachments that didn’t cost extra. It works great! Previously, I’ve used an electric Toro leaf blower, but that big unit gets unwieldy and heavy in a hurry. Not so with the lightweight vacuum/blower hose and nozzle! Keep up your good, honest work!
Thanks very much. I will be honest I have done the odd sponsored video but I tell people in the video if it's sponsored and the truth is as a TH-camr you sometimes have to because the revenue is so bad for small channels like this one but I think people get confused when they see the sponsorship pop up because they assume that they are being forced to say positive things. So I've got a sponsored video coming next month for a few products but it's not a review. (It's more of a showcase with real feedback) I'll always tell it how it is because I respect how tough this industry is as detailing is my full time job so I just want to help others 🙏🙏
@@epicautomotivedetailing I didn't mean to suggest that sponsored reviews are less honest than non-sponsored. I understand that hard-working detailers like you should be rewarded for your efforts to inform us. We have no idea how much time and talent it takes to produce the videos like you produce -- much less still having to detail cars to make your living. Thank you for sharing your talents and knowledge with us, even hobbyists like me.
Thanks my friend. Honestly I never assumed that but thought I'd mention it before anyone else jumped in lol. Thanks for getting in touch. I think if content creators had better rewards for making videos there would be less of it happening. People like pan the organiser are genuinely being honest with reviews it's just sad that some people miss understand the business behind TH-cam and think he's paid to say it's good 😃
I agree he's good
Cant wait for this one ❤
Thanks Paul
Great video, thank you. Some vacuum cleaners have a blow function as well, though you would need to be careful of blowing dirt back through the hose and nozzle.
Yeah I'm going to try few out for a video soon 👌
Yes. I'm curious. I just bought a portable Shop- back after researching. the vacmaster Beast oh, cheaper than rigid, exact copy of the excess P Craftsman. And it talks about the Blower function which I never thought about to use on a car. With that portable, flipping it around and drying.. Might be an option. We'll see
I bought a harbor freight cordless leaf blower. Its portable and light and works great. Has a soft nozzle so if I bump the car it doesnt damage it. I am not a pro car detailer though and only use it on my show car when I detail it for shows. Older classic cars hold alot of water in places that you cant get with a towel and that can set you up for future rust.
Great tip! leaf blowers are great tools
Great video, my car dryer didn’t last me long at all thanks for the new advice
Thanks mate
Always top notch content brother 🤙
Thank you
I got a leaf blower from Argos, seems to do the job.
Defo agree with you that it's a fine line with how in depth your cleans are. I find I often do more than the customer is paying for just because I have a certain standard I want to achieve. I need to stop doing that!
Yes mate. If a client is paying top dollar then yeah i would recommend the very best stuff
Found my self nodding through the whole video lol, great advice and my thoughts exactly 🤙🏼
Thank you 🙏
Great suggestion Dave!
Cheers Alistair
I’ve had mine for 3 years using it at least twice a week, for blowing out the panel gaps and for drying the dog after his weekly bath
That’s a splendid heads up, I’m going to get involved, handy bit of kit at a good price.
Nice one. Its a handy tool if used on those essential areas
You’ve just saved me £200 shelling out for one of the fancy car dryers, I’ll be buying this one instead. Affiliate commission coming your way 🤑 One thing I really like about your channel is you don’t spend ages waffling on about irrelevant crap like some others do 👍🏻
Thank you very much. My channel would never exist without the tiny bits of affiliate money sadly. That's not my goal because ultimately I just want to help people but running coats for TH-cam are pretty high for me as I'm always getting new better equipment 🙏🙏 thank you
I have big boi pro and love it. I use it with microfiber dryer simultaneously
Nice one, I do like my dryer but wouldn't ever solely use it on its own
Hi Dave I really love watching your channel. The workshop studio build is epic..that handsaw you started to use was deadly m8..
Can I ask you a question about snow foam mixture please Dave .if so I will post it here
Keep up the good work .
Might get myself one of these dryers too .
Thanks mate appreciate it. On my website I have some info on the snow foam page of that helps
I’m not a pro so time isn’t such an issue but I haven’t used a big drying towel since getting my Bruhl MD2800 (think Big Boi Pro but with a red hose & £100 cheaper!) I can get my car 99% dry in 15-20 mins then just clear up the odd drip when I follow up with a QD. Glad you mentioned some of the other benefits. Blowing debris out of the tricky areas on interiors is a good one as is blowing tree debris out of the rain channels in the boot and engine bay.
Yeah its got few more uses but ill save that for another day
That’s exactly what I’ve got and use. Towel dry and then blow out the difficult areas. Great for warming up tyres prior to putting on a dressing.
also good for rubber gloves when they get scrunched up
Does warming up the tires make the tire shine stick more?
@@gamingofthelegend3907 I find it lasts longer on the tyre but I am only a weekend warrior using Meguiars endurance dressing.
@@robbie1790 ahhhh ok well thank you for the tip I will use it.
I use a pet dryer myself. They went up to £80ish last year good to see they have come back down.
I love the fact you can get warm air.
They only draw back I found is the length of the hose would be nice to be able replace it with something longer.
It does fluctuate as shipping taxes can affect prices so they are getting cheaper again
You can use vaccum cleaner pipe, failing that go to the garden centre. I found some flexable pond hose that fits.
I use a Black and Decker leaf blower and it works excellent!
Nice one. interested to see how the battery one works for drying
Had one for over a year now, great piece of kit.
Nice one good to hear they last 👌
@@epicautomotivedetailing Only concern is the detachable nozzle has become slightly loose, so I have make sure it’s secure otherwise you turn it on and it’s flying across the road at a speed. 🤣
Some of the Karcher vacuum cleaners have a powerful blow function. They have a refurbished outlet where they are a fair bit cheaper than new.
yeh outlet are great for refurbs
Good morning dave, another great informative video, on the subject of blowers I treated myself to the metro vac side kick, although it’s small and compact it didn’t break the bank it cost £99 with a slight discount it was worth every penny. It saved hours of tedious drying round alloy wheels, door mirrors, grills and door shuts.
Had mine 2years and still going strong
Its a good price. Ive seen some for way more money so well done
How I wish I had seen this video a couple of months ago before I bought a BigBoi dryer thinking it would be the best thing since… Used it once and was hugely disappointed. However, your tips here make so much sense and I will just use it for those awkward bits next time I clean one of the cars. Thanks Dave!
I think I felt the same because it was marketed very well. You live and learn. mine didnt last long at all
It may have disappointed you in terms of what you were expecting, but is still way better than a pet dryer
Have y’all tried using a cordless leaf blower specifically the EGO?
@@blowerbandco1607 Yes, I've been using my Ego 650, without the attachment, with the 7.5A battery. Super heavy but on turbo, it moves a lot of the water.
I have a Rigid 4.5gal Vacuum cleaner and I use it as a blower after a microfiber towel to get water out of the small spots 😅
Iv had my cheap pet dryer for about 4 years now and still good. I only use it for wheels mirrors and the window rubbers so the windows don’t smear when I put them down.
Agreed thats all its needed for really 👌
Hi Dave, I bought an Air force 1. Bloody noisy. I bought ear defenders. Takes ages to dry the car. Rubbish on the roof. Blows droplets in all directions. You are absolutely correct, takes far too long. Great on the wheels. I'm going back to using towels 👍👍👍
Yeah I only use it when I need it at the end of a clean. It's good but not essential
I’d love to see a detail of a boat or jet ski (partial to the ski bc that’s what I have). Great content, I’ve learned a much from your channel!
Not sure I can find one in my area but you never know
@@epicautomotivedetailing just throwing it out there! Keep up the awesome work!
I use a Greenworks 40v blower, especially as I've got x4 40v batteries (8 mins running time for each battery) that works with my Greenworks cordless pressure washer, 70bar is more than enough. The big problem with big boi is that you need either a petrol generator or at least 2,000kw or 3,000kw battery power station to make it work for at least 3-4 hours. Whereas, I have a 230kw Energizer 72,000 power station that charges all 4 of my Greenworks batteries when I'm out and about. Also got x5 25l water containers to fill up the Greenworks cordless pressure washer in-built bucket. Everything cost £500 total. Over the past year I've calculated that I need 75-100 litres of water for a safe wash or 50-75 litres for a contactless wash. I think this is the best way to start a mobile detailing business without spending too much and burning out. Make use of Amazon prime day as I got 30-50% off each item, otherwise I would've spent £1k-£1.2k as the 2ah 40v batteries are stupidly expensive at £70 with 8 mins running time, this will cost £30-40 on prime day.
l bought one of the " pet " dryers for my motorbike, awesome bit of kit !
Yeah they do the job well
Epic 😁👍🏼
thank you
Very similar to my car dryer...
I had the choice.... Based on colour..
Pink pet dryer £48
Black car dryer £150
Chrome bike dryer £200
I messaged the seller to make sure of my suspicions...
They are all the same unit except for the label and the colour.
I bought the pink one... It works great. Ive lengthened the cable and put some casters on so I can drag it around.
I found some cheap flexible pond hose, (very similar to hoover pipe) to make a longer hose.
Yeah it's madness how they charge more
Hi Dave. I bought the bigboi blower, and I've hardly used it. I did get it out to dry off a motorbike though, and it came into its own there, so will be using it more for bikes.
Thanks for the other tips.
Thank you Kevin
I'm using the Monello Maestro and indeed it's just great for motorcycles
i have a dryer now for years from McKees 37. What drives me insane is how the power cord curls up. Spend so much time fighting this snake. Going to try the pet dryer.
thanks for sharing
My pleasure
i got a big boi mini and I've used it like twice. It really does take time to dry a whole car with it, and sometimes you have the time, sometimes you don't. If you stick to the grills, wheels and mirrors then it can be a great tool, but drying a whole car takes a bit of patience. Tod over on Esoteric(YT) did demo a technique for blow drying into a towel, but it felt wrong to me.
I only use the dryer for door shuts and grills mainly
I use a titan hover (screw fix own make ) ,that also has a blower build in .also use it on my bike .👍
nice one great tip my friend
The Titan is brilliant at the job!
Just got a titan haven’t used it yet is it any good for sucking out water etc
@@Jk-wi1ij I haven't tried it yet, got an extractor adaptor from eBay for around £5 to give it a go though, only seen good things for wet use
Hi dave, I have two pet hair dryers I got from a local dog groomer, she was dumpling them because they didn't work, I brought them home and cleaned them out and they worked fine, so I got them for free yahoo 👍👍👍
Nice one. yeah those filters need cleaning every few months
Pet dilution bottles are awsome too
VERY INTERESTING! I used my leaf blower for the first time last week but it's SOOOO LOUD! Maybe the pet dryer is the better solution, I will check it out, thank you!
Next question: do you use de-ionised water for the final rinse? If so, what setup did you get? I have normal softened water from the house but our water contains a lot of gypsum that the softener can't remove. Do you have a favourite de-ioniser? I'm pretty sure that a de-ioniser WILL remove dissolved gypsum (calcium sulphate) since it is in ionised form in the water until it crystallises out. Very much looking forward to hearing your answer! All the best, Rob in Switzerland.
Hiya no I don't use de-ironised water. It doesn't effect the clean as I always dry it all off in time
I just bought a bigboi mini+ yesterday and am going to try it out to see how it performs?
Planning to buy, but, wasn't sure if the pet dryer would do the trick🥳. Saw various models but might go for Phoenix Universal zephyr on polytrans website, looks mid range to car blowers.
Nice one. this one is great
it was fuunny looking for one of these dryers on ebay then saw these pet dryers for about 40 50 quid and also handy in winter with a hot air fuction keeping your hands warm after washinfg and way more powerful too
I've been using mine today. It's really good
@@epicautomotivedetailing yeah keep them hands warm too
I think this is great I can use it when I want to spray my car down with a pressure washer and can't use a towel to dry because I didnt wash it and dont want to scratch the paint
It's very time consuming so I still use towels but use this for small areas
@@epicautomotivedetailing i have time when i do it in my driveway
I Use my Titan wet\dry vac, not perfect but does a job, cheaply:)
YEah lots of love for titan
Nice one dave
Thanks Mate
Oh & brought a the nilfisk 160 ref our conversation the other week, great bit of kit very impressed 👍
@@mattyj624 brilliant stuff mate.
I’ve got the exact same dryer for my car. Works wonders! Just wish it came with a longer power cable
Yeah sadly that is a downfall with the cheap one but still i use a single plug extension lead and it does the trick
I use my leaf blower, Toro leaf blower 160mph
Some peoples pride and joy (car) is there PET.
Hello , great video. So where is the link to buy this product? Cheeersss
Hello link in description
I paid $25 for a leaf blower and it works just fine.
i use myn on only on tyres and wheels when putting tyre dressing on and badges grill and mirrors
Yeah it's the only places I use mine yoo
Being now just into my 60s and only a weekend warrior on my own and family cars I find the best drier is mother nature, I rinse really well with DI water and let it drip dry, non-contact, limescale, spot and scratch free! It's also the easiest on my shoulders and I can have a cuppa and pack up while it dries so I also save time. For me it's the perfect solution
Nice one thank you for sharing Steve 🙏. Fair play I'm slowing down already and I'm 36 😬
@@epicautomotivedetailing well at least it keeps you fit Dave but make sure you look after your shoulders or they will give you hell in later years. Get some exercise bands and do some rotator cuff rehab stuff is my advice, face pulls and external rotation moves, plenty on TH-cam 💪💪
Its why I use a DIY car wash where its well maintained and uses very good products. The owner takes pride in his car wash and the osmosis water rinse is always pure. Its popular with nice car owners.
I bought the big boi mini but have a lot of trouble drying big surfaces and windows, I feel like it´s good for the grill and emblems but not for really drying the whole car. Now I use my towels again and assist it with the big boi for the gaps.
Yeah thats all car dryers are good for really just the remaining bits
Maybe it´s better to invest in filtered water
I have a dog and use a twin motor pet dryer from VidaXL. 1/3 the price of a BigBoi Blower and just as powerful. Filter on both motors.
Brilliant ill take a look
Get a cheap compressor off marketplace and it should help the job. Always use tango when you rinse off. It disperses the water and changes the surface tension of the water and makes it disappear into the microfibre cloth easier/ quicker. Use the compressed air to blow water out of areas that cause runs. Mirrors, door handles, badges etc. when you are ready to present the car to customer, prepare a damp mf cloth and mist with tango. Use this to rub away any run marks. Tango contains water softener which makes any runs less able to mark the paint
Thanks again Dave 👍🏼👍🏼 whatever happened to Pound land 2???
Still on my shelf waiting to be filmed don't worry something bigger is coming 📺
@@epicautomotivedetailing Ok Dave I will wait
Hey maybe if you can do a video about how to add a longer hose to the cheap car dryer and an interchangeable hose that's longer and maybe expands
Already looking into it
@epiccarshowdetailing
Any joy extending the hose yet?
i use my missis pet hair dryer its as good as high end ones it had cold and hot system 👍
Yep 100% mine has warm air function. Its pretty good for the grills etc. Im not a massive fan of the dryer but at this price its plenty powerful
@@epicautomotivedetailing its worth its money in winter i think we should be on double time in the frezzing cold 😂
Why don’t you just buy a Titan vacuum? Powerful suck and blow for £50 (which is cheaper than for the same down soho)
fair point 👍
I actually went ahead and bought One of therse after seeing this video, I decided to also do a review on my channel (coming soon) and as I unboxed it, the handle just snapped off in my hand! needless to say I complained just a bit 😂
Flippin heck. You been lifting too many weights lol. Thats a shame on a serious note
@@epicautomotivedetailing Think it may have been dodgy to begin with, the blower does work well, but hard to carry now of course, on a positive note.... they refunded me £36 of the £55.95 purchase price, so I'll keep it for £20 haha (love the channel BTW)
Don't see need for car dryer, though it's useful. But I've used my portable leaf blower, and just bought a portable Shop-Vac which has a blowing function which I might experiment with.
Nice one, they are great 👌
For someone who just wants to do their own car, a regular hair dryer with a concentrator should work fine, particularly if there's a separate heat control so you can turn off the heat and just blow regular air.
I did try that once and it didnt quite give me enough power. These cheap dryers are actually pretty good. Not as good as the real thing but still worth it
Hi have you tried the nilfisk hoover with the blower feature
Not yet but in the to do list
Quick question, could you use this to speed up the drying of a fabric soft top so you don't have to wait to apply weatherproofing that needs a dry roof?
Yes 100%
Looks like the seller you linked to has spotted the other use, the description has pictures of dogs and starts off talking about drying pets then switches to drying engine parts bumpers grills and mirrors
can you answer me a question i bought a jazzy blue golf ans has a few bird poo stains but has been polished how would i remove without causing any damage do not own a polishing machine cheers
heat gun always works a treat. get it to the right temperature. If you go too hot for too long you will damage it
Nice vid Dave , informative and we'll put together . Atleast you can blow away the triggered tears of the big boi fan Bois .. I'm scanning the comments for the first BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FILTER sniffles *
Thank you mine came with an extra filter too I think
Hi there. What about to use a vacuum with the blower function, will not make the same thing?
Yes that will work
That hose looks longer than the one shown on Amazon, did you purchase separately?
They extended when switched on
I use a small Hairdryer or compressed air Dave since i have a Portable Compressor but Big boi is really popular :D
Great video Dave !
Thanks David 🙏
Been using a pet dryer every weekend for over 4 years
Cost me £35.00 off ebay
Bargain nice one. Things cost so much more now
I have just got the same dryer but have found the hose to be short. Have you found anyone who does a longer hose? Thanks
I don't use it for the entire car. I only use it for the essential areas so for me it's been good enough but I'm sure you can get another hose on Amazon or even AliExpress
using my pet dryer for many years now ;-)
Nice one 👌

Great idea those work great
It’s called Grandpa Shark because it’s probably a Chinese brand and they just use any English words they can get their hands on.
I love the randomness of them lol
What's wrong with just taking it for a spin at 60 mph?
