@@thecunninlynguist I’m talking about a REAL revival. One that takes SHMUPS to a whole new level. Like HOLLYWOOD action packed like. Seeing this is close to what I’ve imagined, but not quite.
In Gradius III and IV collection on PS2. Konami has two FMV’s in that collection that are intros. Those FMV’s speak volumes as to where SHMUPS could or should be at this point. Imagine if a new Gradius played out just like those FMV’s in those perspectives? That’s what I want to see.
(Addendum) Something like the 1st stage Boss battle in Marvel Guardians Of The Galaxy. That was like something out of G-Darius! 👍🏼
The PC Engine reference is spot-on : I smell some Gunhed, Soldier series, Sapphire, Psychic Storm flavours here.

Odd that they give us Gradius and Salamander pictures (horizontal shooters...OK half of it for Salamander), since CIGNY is a vertical one.
Hope this means we'll get an actual Gradius VI down the road.
I'd be happy with a rerelease of Gradius V, for Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Treasure made an absolute masterpiece that needs to be played by a new group of gamers.

I hope this game has a option to rotate vertically. It would be a real shame to release a vertical shooter in horizontal format. Others have made this mistake, it never works out.

Like the recent GetsuFumaDen Undying Moon (Early Access, co-developed(not outsourced) with indie studio GuruGuru), Crimesight (Early Access, done in-house), Super Bomberman R Online (co-developed with Hexadrive), Castlevania Grimoire of Souls (Apple Arcade, done in-house),Yu Gi Oh Rush Duel (to come in a few months), etc... plus whatever they’re working alongside Bloober Team.
Konami may not (that we know) be making AAA’s anymore (outside of their football franchise), but they never stopped making games (and not just for mobile).
