@@bethbartlett5692 The broken pottery isn’t doing any harm to the environment. Plus if we picked up every sherd of glass or ceramic we wouldn’t be able to move. The broken bottles also create wildlife havens for crabs, shellfish and barnacles which then the birds eat.

    Ok,so my mom is Italian.
And she doesn’t get this mudlarking thing.
She’s like “it’s a bunch of junk! Why do they want all that junk?”
And I’m like”No! Mom! This is history!it’s cool as heck!!”
She’s like “Don’t yell at me,young man(I’m 51 years old),I never yelled at your grandmother, and you will not yell at me.”
So I yelled back,”I’m not yelling! I’m just trying to tell you that this isn’t junk!!”
Then,I showed her the Roman mortarium piece, and everything changed.
    “Oh my goodness,this is Roman?”
    “Yeah mom,they were in England,too.”
“Well, didn’t those Italian boys get around, huh?”
    “Yeah,they sure did,mom.”
So now my mom can appreciate a cod bottle,a porcelain shred,a vulcanite bottle top,a Bellamine shred, she appreciates the history.
It is no longer junk to her.

Unrequested idea for your Etsy store: you could add bandanas for dogs and/or humans with the mud lover logo. I realized that most dogs love mud as much as mud larkers and think it would be so stinkin' cute for a pooch to wear it.

That shoe sole has me really intrigued! I can’t wait to hear the results of the dating process. I would also be interested in heating more about your wood preservation process. I assume the more anaerobic the conditions the better which is why it’s survived so long in the Thames mud. But what happens now? And most importantly, please give a fist bump to Steve for me! Femoral head fracture is no joke! I can’t believe he was even out-n-about! True warrior that! Best of luck for his hip surgery. Keep us posted and we’ll raise a few pints for his recovery!

Also it surprised me to see a bit about Wojtek the bear because my step dad (R.i.p) was half Polish, and his dad was actually one of the soldiers that got given the bear. His surname was Ostrowski, and his name is in various books about Wojtek. He use to go to Edinburgh zoo where Wojtek was kept and would wrestle with him inside the enclosure. I also read that there is an animated movie about Wojtek in the works.

YAY! H3 IS BACK! I was just thinking about H3 the other day & wondering when (if?) it would return. Well, it has & with a 💥‼ (Ok, w/an oil leak, but a 💥 is SO dramatic, eh?) It was a 🔸️fascinating🔸️ trip for us although maybe a little stressful for the actual mudders? I loved the colorful pieces pottery you found and the sweet, sweet story of Cpl 🐻. (I've never heard it before.)
I'm so sorry about Steve's injury. He's a complete all💥 (oops, WRONG emoji ☺)... I meant Steve's a complete 👉all 🌟👈 for doing his part for the expedition despite being on the injured list. Please wish him well for us & let us know how he does. At an unusually young age like Steve, my dad had a double hip replacement. It was a godsend for him & will be for Steve as well. (Just don't let'em near the hair w/those surgical implements! 👩‍⚕️💉✂️🤦‍♀️)
Thanks for another interesting, well-done video, Si! Thanks too for the captioning of the "garbled mechanical nonsense." It was very helpful! But it made me wonder why the occasional "garbled mudlarking nonsense" isn't similarly labelled (for your non UK Eng. speaking audience). 😂😂😂
    I'm TEASING! (pretty much...)
    🖐🏼🙆🏽‍♀️✌🏽and 💖 from Seattle!

Hello to you all, thanks for another nice clip about your adventures with the hoovercrafts and good finds. Always enjoy the clips and information about all the finds. I was surprised about one of your finds it's a blue/white fragment with two birds ( swalows ?) It's a fragment of an oval dish made in Holland. Dated around 1900. At the dish you can see a Chinese landscape. At the back of the oval dish there is a mark ; "Société céramique Maestricht" the pattern is called ; Willow".The factory doesn't excist anymore these days. If you look at internet for information you can find a lot. It's nice to find material made in other foreign countries. About the history of claypipes in Holland there were English soldiers who where hired and fight around the 17e century in Holland. Some of the soldiers stayed in Holland and introduced the production and using of the Engilsh claypipes.
About the Roman material it's nice to find them at the surface at the low thigh.
I'm curious about the bronze age fints you have find and will read all the other reactions, to find out. I wish you all good finds and a lot of pleasure with the mudlarking with or without hovvercrafts and good health to you all ! Greetings from Holland, André(w?)

Just a thought, if you carbon date that shoe it would mean you’re dating the wood, not when it was made. The tree it came from might have been 500yrs old at the time it was felled to create the shoe.

Clay pipes, BBC, British beaches. Yorkshire ep. When people got sick. The pipe was used to put good smoke into any orifices. To stop end breaking off butter was used. This was a goverment medical instruction. Russell

Dear Steve, my husband is a physiotherapist and we have a clinic, we rehab lots of folk after hip replacements. My FIL had two done separately in his late 70s, gave him a new lease on life. It also almost completely eliminated his pain. Just ensure that you do all your rehab, don’t overdo things, don’t be an idiot and try push too hard. So long as you are sensible, you should get 20 good years from your new hip! Good luck🌟🌟🌟🌟
