  • Have seeker sensitive churches gone too far with entertainment? How should churches draw the line between trying to be "culturally relevant" vs. stepping over the line of what's acceptable and godly for a church to do? Are churches going overboard to reach those far from Christ? In this video I want to explore 5 questions that may help us evaluate the current state of many of our churches today.

Hey everyone, just to be clear this is NOT a bashing of Mike Todd, pastor of Transformation Church. I am simply using a few clips from their church services to make a point about the direction in which I see the church going. This is one of those video that I'd REALLY love to hear YOUR perspective on so please do watch it and let me know your thoughts below. In other words, let me know if I'm tripping and being a bit oversensitive on this subject. Thanks so much and have a great weekend!

No you're not being insensitive... when you operate out of immaturity, by default, a person becomes spoiled. When a person becomes spoiled, what happens, just like food, it's becomes rotten. We are not to have itching ears where we are seduced that we allow for strange spirits & unsound doctrine to come in & corrupt the body which has already happened. I don't hear too many leaders talking about being filled with the Holy Spirit, repentance, & deliverance to live the abundant like... to me my friend... those are the keys to not only access the abundant life, but to sustain it also!

One of the best things said to me as I was pursuing a degree in ministry: “What you win them with is what you win them to.” If people are drawn to Christianity because of spectacle and entertainment, that’s what they will think Christianity is and they will continue to seek that. If they are drawn to Christianity by the love of God and the message of the Gospel, they will grow to love God with everything they are and love their neighbors as they love themselves.

You can tell the difference when it's about pride and when it's connecting. When the one pastor brought is car on stage, that was pride. He even praised the car on stage, "There is nothing like a Rolls Royce" putting the attention on his car. When the other pastor was clapping his hands and dancing, you can see it in him. He was reaching out and connecting with his congregation. His one sermon, "Anchored", I never felt distracted by his props. I heard and felt and was engaged with his teaching. Yes can we mature a bit and just learned to not fall asleep in church, yes but the same can be said the other way around. Dont be so distracted by the other things that you miss the word.

I used to watch Transformation church online every week. I loved it. I slowly began to realize I was going there to get my weekly “pick me up” - to make me feel good. Almost like it was a weekly therapy apt. I realized more and more that rather than teaching the Bible, pastor Mike usually had a topic and would just build some scripture around it, rather than starting with the scripture and building the sermon around it. I wasn’t learning anything about Gods character or what was actually happening in the Bible. I was just being given some spoonfuls of ‘it’s okay God is going to carry you through this!’ Here and there with some scripture sprinkled in. I stopped watching. His Instagram makes me sad. I think Pastor Mike needs a lot of prayer. I’m sure he’s a lovely person and I think he truly loves God. I don’t personally feel his teaching is something for a Christian to grow in their knowledge of the Bible or Jesus

When it comes to churches, you have to look at what type of audience a church has. I’ve attended Michael Todd’s church before and a lot of young people go there. Creativity is important to get peoples attention but at the end of the day, the Word of God needs to impact people. That is what makes the difference. Yeah Todd can be a little over the top, but if people are getting saved, that’s all that matters.

As long as they are truly saved. The danger that has been demonstrated in the past many times is if peoples' faith is more in the pastor than in God, things will go wrong. People who "lost their faith" after their beloved spiritual leader fell likely were rooted more in the faith of the leader than in God. Not in any way saying this describes Michael Todd's church, just saying it is something we need to be very aware of.

“If you use carnal means to attract men, you are going to attract carnal men; and you’re going to have to keep using greater carnal means to keep them in the church. So, what has happened is this - we have these large churches filled with many unconverted, carnal people. But, in those churches, we also have this small group of people that honestly want Christ… all they want is Jesus. But the pastor, in order to keep this larger group of unconverted people, he caters to them; so, while he is feeding these carnal men and women with carnal things, he is letting the sheep of God starve to death… The leadership is catering to the carnal and letting the Bride of Christ starve to death impoverished. That is wrong, and there is going to be judgment for it.” - Paul Washer

This 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏So many teenagers and young people who would not have come to know the Lord and would not be serving Him, have come to know Him through transformation church.
True servants of God who are Pastors will use props to give better understanding for those who may need visuals to get the message. Those who are false prophets will use props because they are not about saving souls or worshiping God but have others worship them.
Once i give my tithe and offering. That is to God.What is done with it is none of my business. I did my part. If a pastor then chooses to use part of that money for what is classed as pleasing in God eyes fantastic. If a pastor chooses to use for what is not pleasing to God then that is between God and the pastor and God will deal with it and them, when and how He choosese is fit without requiring any help from ourselves.
Souls are priceless to God PERIOD and there for should be priceless to all of those who claim to be followers of Jesus. If by saving more souls means that genuine God fearing pastors use the Word of God but also use visuals to give souls a better clearer understanding, especially those who are lost, then who are any of us to say this is wrong if in God's eyes it is pleasing to Him.
Whether we like it or not the world has evolved and along with it people have evolved too. So more and more resources and new ideas are required many a time to save the souls who are conformed to this world. What would work 50 years ago will not necessarily work now.
There are people i know of who no longer listen to reggae, rnb or dancehall secular music because they were introduced to gospel music that had the similar beats but the song was based on God. Those who used to listen and speak profanity who no longer do because most of it they heard through the music they listened to. Then they found christian reggae, rnb, hip hop, pop or dancehall songs with the beat that drew them and they were introduced to Jesus and His love. Do you think this pleases God or do you think God is unpleased because someone took a beat and changed the words for the Glory and Honor of the Almighty.
We have teenagers in our family who although we attend services as a family they have grown spiritually with transformation church online, pastor John Jenkins as well as the church we attend. They gain an even better understanding when they have visuals period. Now if that brings them closer to God then others opinions do not matter.
People need to be very careful on placing judgement on men of God.That is for God and God alone to do. If what you can see is clearly wicked etc then yes we are to highlight this. In the meantime instead of pointing fingers and having videos of shade to others, we all need to be asking ourselves how many souls we saved and brought to Jesus lately.

Hey Nancy. If you watch the video you will find that Allen is not criticising the teaching but the way these illustrations have become more grandiose to such an extent they might distract from the message rather than enforce them. I remember an early sermon from Mike Todd where he used ping pong balls in an analogy of sin; it was simple, effective and served the point. This seems very different and I pray his public success won't detract from his preaching or his walk with God.
While the Holy Spirit can give us discernment it does not negate the high standard God has for teachers(James 3). God bless.

51I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”a
52The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?”
53Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54Whoever eats* my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
57Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.b

A couple of things on this video…:
First, I love your content. It’s raw and real and has helped guide me in various ways on my own journey.
Second, I often see clips/videos of sermons of pastors going a little crazy, for lack of a better word, with their props and illustrations. Having said that, seeing the specific clips in this video I immediately thought of how awesome that would be to experience as a first-time church attendee, or someone who hasn’t been to church in a while. And, as a believer, the more captivating and memorable a pastor can make their service, the better, so long as scripture is the guiding light for that sermon. I watch a lot of Transformation Church’s series and sermons for this very reason. Maybe it’s because I’m a little bit younger, but the visuals and charisma often move me to seek more, do deeper dives on my own, etc.
Finally, you asked whether or not these antics are “…the best use of their [congregation] hard-earned money”. Something to remember is that it’s not their money, it’s God’s money. It comes from tithes and donations and is given to be used however God uses it. Sure, sometimes imperfect man makes some questionable choices, but if those choices are leading people to Jesus, who are we to judge?

I think it’s important to remember that God speaks through people differently. I was raised Catholic and still hold that practice close to my heart but the ministry of Transformation church has brought me closer to God through fasting, prayer and worship. This ministry reignited my fire for God and has inspired the evangelical spirit within my spirit. I’m learning that we have to speak less and pray more. If God works through miracles, signs, and wonders how dare we put a cap on what God can do through the servants in this generation. I pray that we all stop having conversations with each other and have a talk with God. He will make you aware of where you should or should not be based on who you are. I am grateful for the revival that is happening in the church. We don’t really need buildings. We are the hands and feet of Christ in the world. Sunday service is the main event but the true ministry can be found in the cracks and crevasses of a church. Who is praying, training, feeding the children’s ministry, giving, etc. the proof is in the fruit and fruitful ministries are where we want to be. May the peace of Christ be with all of us.

We are so into great production that we hardly make time to really fellowship with each other and get to personally know each other. We only use group chats by texting more than actual fellowship. It makes me reevaluate if I should stay or find another church. I even make more friends in the secular entertainment world than church. @@francenesmith9782 I thought I felt the spirit too until my mom exposed him to me. I fought her tooth and nail, we argued until 2am until I finally was able to see that Mike Todd is not a good pastor. God can use bad pastors to give us milk but eventually we have to get away from them so we can grow fully. I binged watched a lot of his videos and it made me see that every sermon was the same. "You don't have enough faith, that's why you don't have that job." "You ain't acting right that's why God didn't give you a husband yet." "You don't have the right perspective that's why God hasn't moved you." The sermon should not be about me. I am not Abraham making the sacrifice to show God I'm worthy. I am not David slaying the Goliath of my sins. I am not Job forced to deal with suffering. All of those are images of Christ. The entire bible is about Christ. You can't take Mike Todd's Crazy Faith sermons and preach them to christians in China, Nigeria, or India who are having church in underground tunnels. Who are imprisoned, beaten, tortured, killed. Separated from their families. Churches burned down. They want to hear God's words. They want pastors who will break down the bible verse by verse so they can understand the essence and character of God. They don't want a pastor to tell them they don't have enough faith and that's why their life looks the way it does, when they are dying for their faith. If a sermon can be preached to someone being persecuted, that's how you know it's real. Watch Voddie Baucham, Matt Chandler, Francis Chan, Paul Washer. Much better pastors.

The only churches sugar coating are other mega church pastors or other pastors who are also border line false teachers, he isn’t sugar coating controversial topics - but that doesn’t mean he is teaching the full gospel either, he does it for shock value at best.
if you go to a solid Bible teaching church , the community may be smaller, less trendy and less entertaining to the young (because that’s not a requirement of the true gospel) , but they are faithful to teach verse by verse through the whole Bible (not just bits here and there) out of reverence for the LORD.
you’ll find those churches: nothing is sugar coated including hell, and - big pet of members are students of the word on their own time more than they rely solely on the pastor for interpretation ( as it should be, because we are to work out our own salvation)
If Mike was not sugar coating any part of the full gospel, why doesn’t he ever mention hell? How come he still lives fleshly, instead of telling people he set apart like Bible commands? I listened to him once too and yes he helped me in ways, but he’s only presenting half the gospel and the spirit led me away from him for true conversion. Please watch American Gospel the documentary 1-2 and you’ll see what I mean and why I completely left listening to him. I only say this because I care.

      @ohhithere8055 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Lori Kriese I think you missed the part where I said I listened to him once too. As in: I’m just like everybody who was listening to him and was deceived myself, until someone showed me he was false (when watching the documentary).. so someone cared enough to tell me and helped me in that way and the spirit (God ) moved to lead me to other pastors. As in the grace of God, and none of this of my own doing.
We gain nothing assuming anytime someone tries to correct us they are judging us.Paul even rebuked Peter, another apostle! How much more would be need ourselves to be corrected and humbled when we are in false teaching if even apostles fell prey to it?
It seems you read into my message what you wanted it to mean , I can understand that because it’s hard to tell the intent in messages online.
but in reality it’s God humbled me to submit to his scriptures . If I was prideful I would have said “no , this is the pastor I like and want to stick with “ even though people had already been warning me he is false. Instead, God made scriptures correct my thinking.
I’m coming from a place of having been in the shoes of people who love this pastor and being exactly in the same place thinking what he was doing was all good and biblical.
I’m trying to warn people and tell them the same truth someone told me (not to damn them, quite the opposite actually) , the true gospel (not prosperity gospel) saves souls in Christ.
In your accusation of me - you are literally the one trying to damn me to hell saying I won’t be standing in front of God with him saying he knew me… that is judging me too, btw.
But you are right about one thing: I’m no better at all for any reason, no one is, except Christ our savior and only he can condemn.
Besides, the Pharisees were not condemned because they followed the scripture or religion… they were condemned because they added rules to the scriptures .. people calling out false teachers are upholding the scriptures and what they say about false teachers in many chapters.. they are not adding to them like the Pharisees. Jesus upheld scripture highly himself - and came to fulfill the law perfectly . The issue was that the Pharisees where putting laws into place in those time that were not scriptural.

I have been attending Transformation Church for almost two years now. I believe Pastor Todd has a heart for people and the word of God. I was in the building for the "history in the making"clip. It was all about the fact that God works through us generationally IF we submit to the call. It was a powerful visual that then ended in his dance. What I see is a leader who is serving God with his whole being. I do think some of the illustrations are over the top but I know I've grown closer and retained some powerful biblical truths from watching these sermon series. I recommend Lazy Faith and Trading Faith from the Crazy Faith series and Who's the Minister Here, which was really all about discipleship. I'm not saying all the visuals are necessary...but I believe they are necessary for some of us. Paul said I become all things to all men that I might win some. I see some of these Pastor's efforts in that light and continue to pray that God keeps them rooted and grounded in Him because any of us can stray.
Thank you for your video. I would appreciate if you also include a few recommendations for pastors and teachers who you have found to be truly rooted in the word.

I feel the Micheal Todd video with the boat is his way of expressing his creativity to symbolize the way we feel when we’re in dark moments. We feel all alone and that we’re going through the rough waters alone. When has it been required that to teach Gods word it must be preached in a traditional suit standing at a traditional pulpit and preaching in a traditional way?
Almost any and everything comes down to the presentation for how others will gravitate to it so how is it a problem because he’s giving visuals to convey his message? The visuals aren’t demonic nor are they contradicting his/Gods message. This unique way of delivering Gods word is a forsure way to pull in the attention of the YOUTH! The YOUTH are the ones who have the ability to keep Gods word in motion because so many are lost in these current times.
He’s a youth pastor so maybe these are his tactics to gain the attention of the lost youth. Many times it doesn’t matter what you say if your audience feels like they can’t relate to you. I personally feel that his tactics of using visuals are no different than watching a christian stage play.
Why not reach out to that brotha and get him on a video asking why he chooses to convey his Gods message the way he does ? Maybe you’ll get better understanding and maybe even be able to give helpful advice rather than saying your not *bashing him* while actually bashing him

What happened to the power of the Holy Spirit? If we understand the word of God we know that the Holy Spirit moves the heart. So if God is trying to reach us and have us, all we need is the Holy Spirit moving in the church. A reason why the youth find the church boring is they have missed the core message of the gospel and don’t really want to be there to begin with. The persecuted churches in China, Africa and around the world don’t have any of that but yet both young and old are coming to christ. These are people who are willing to DIE for the gospel and pray frequently but yet Christians in America need to be entertained to sit inside of a church. We have a problem!!!!!! When Jesus came to preach at the temple and saw what was being done he told them “you have made the house of God into a den of thieves”. This is the same way these churches have turned churches into a entertainment zone. When you leave these churches you feel good but you haven’t learned much and are still living the same way you came. And what you do learn is a social gospel. P.S I’m Young!

It does help to have a background in this pastor to help. If he started off as a youth pastor that could help explain his teaching style I'm sure.
If it's not heretical it shouldn't be an issue. I think the issue is that it's unorthodox compared to what other people do. At the end of the day if you don't like the church or the preacher we definitely have options in the States

If you watch Pastor Mike's sermon's, in almost every sermon he speaks on the importance of reading our word and not looking to the church as a spectacle. He is also very blatant about how our sin separates us, and spends a lot of time on the individual sins - i.e. spending 10 weeks to go in great depth of how non forgiveness separates us from God. So I think we should appreciate that Old school preaching is not fading away, but like everything, is evolving and that should excite us as Christians. Obviously this isn't true of every church, but again, when was the church ever perfect? Old School or not.

I stopped attending a church in Las Vegas in 2010ish. They were known to be edgy and radical because they set up a booth at the PORN convention every year to pray for people. It was Easter and when I drove up to the parking lot it was riddled with circus-like entertainment. The Easter bunny was on the corner waving to cars, there was rides and popcorn, chicken costumes, even Micheal Jackson was there! During service the pastor was in a red leather MJ's Thriller outfit preaching about being "The walking dead": Not having Christ and going through the motions".... ALL OF A SUDDEN: Smoke filled the stage, Thriller music started and all these zombies walked out. The pastor "disappeared" and out walks a stunt double (the real pastor couldn't dance) in place of the pastor but as a ZOMBIE! They all break into the famous MJ thriller routine.....sighhhhh🤦🏾
It was THEN, as a young Christian of 6 years, I KNEW that we were celebrating everything BUT Christ. I said goodbye to everyone that day but I knew I'd never be back. And I left and prayed for them.

I watched Pastor Mike Todd's whole sermon and that message along with the visual was deep. I appreciate the talent God gave Pastor Mike to reach this generation because my 10 year old son loves to watch Transformation church with me and he understands the message.

For a visual learner, I love the way he helps me understand the lesson that he wants to get across, but I can’t speak for him because I’ve only watched about 3 times and seen a few clips on TikTok

If only the Apostles had known these methods the gospel would have spread faster and more people would have joined the Church

@@JimiSurvivor The Apostles had the best method ever - dependence on the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows the hearts that were ripe for salvation. There is a difference between joining the Church and being saved.

I agree...I think Mike Todd's message was very true to the reality of the walk, and his visual example help to drive it home for those who need a little help understanding what he was saying
