Hi John, great video and info about the Moringa. I just started growing this plant in Merida (Mexico) and invested in the UV light system to sanitize it without heat. Thanks a lot for your help.

All the ancient tribes in the Philippines used it as medicine and ulam down these Generation. It is good dish pas for me Chicken Moringa in coconut milk, its yummy promise try it, it is my favorite dish we call it Ginataang Manok sa Malungay. Tinolang Manok with Malungay. Thank you Sir . We have 4 Moringa trees that we grew from cuttings. They grow extremely fast here in Southern California, 4 - 8 inches a week, once you put them in the ground. We eat the freshly picked leaves and the pods all the time. The leaves boiled in 1/2 water and 1/2 chicken stock makes a wonderful green vegetable. We add onions, too.
If the leaves are very dark, that just means they had been on the tree a long time. The new growth leaves are light green.
I think the lighter colored leaves taste better.
Moringa leaves freeze well too if you squeeze as much air as possible out of the freezer bag. They have a long freezer life.

Just personally ‘discovered’ Moringa (Daun Kelor) recently and have been fascinated by all the benefits and how common it is - in some parts of the world - notably the tropics - and have been incorporating it into my diet more and more as opportunities present themselves. I love it. Great taste and I ‘feel’ better. (Placebo effect probably)
Yesterday I found a resto on the beach that had both steamed Daun Kelor AND Kelor smoothies on the menu so I ordered both! In fact I had two Kelor smoothies! The smoothy was made with Kelor, banana, lime, and a bit of liquid jaggery. (Location: I’m on the western coast of the island of Lombok in the Indonesian Archipelago - where Moringa grows everywhere and is a wild indigenous plant.)

sorry to say this time around John is making a generalization about one taste from that tree that is NOT true. here in Florida these trees grow everywhere. I have a Moringa O. tree and the leave are tender milder tasting than spinach and not bitter at all so please dont be discouraged from eating them just because he says one particular kind seems bitter to him. this has a beautiful light spinach like taste and yes the tree hes standing in front of does not look like the beautiful tasting oleifera we have down here. i highly encourage you to eat these raw, or throw bunch of handfuls into your omelette in the morning. its amazing! even throw them in the juicer. and you dont need expensive dehydrator to dry these. clean them, throw them on your counter spaced apart, they will be dry in a mere few days, no effort :) then powder them in your coffee grinder. simple as that

Great Vid ... by the way, Moringa is a great addition to lentil soups (East Indian Dal dishes) including the long pods known as drumstick. It is not just medicinal, it is used in East Indian cooking and adds a good body of flavor to the food. Yes it is is bitter when raw, but when cooked it tastes great. I've eaten it growing up. Thanks for sharing.

You can strip the leaves much easier if you dehydrate them while still on the branches. Also, while you are dehydrating them on the branches, the branches themselves are still supplying small amounts of nutrients to the leaves that they would otherwise not be getting if you pull them off before dehydrating.

I do agree with you, MsLaburn, that John's way of taking the dehydrated leaves with his bare hands and putting it in a paperbag form who knows how clean it was is a no-no. I like his dehydrator being able to keep the leaves green in color. The simple way of airdrying it in the shade, at room temperature and in a screened room(protect it from bugs and flies) is what makes the leaves dark. This is the natural way of drying it and no artificial intervention.

Moringa's need pruning. Chopping it down to 3 feet is necessary for perennial Moringa trees. It will sprout new limbs, and keep growing. Truly an amazing tree. If you grow one yourself, be sure you prune it regularly- otherwise, it will resemble the Charlie Brown Christmas tree, except that it grows in excess of 15-20 feet per year

Both are the same as what I've read. Just that the dried moringa is more accessible being you can just pick a bottle of it at the store. Unless you live where it is grown. Here in Southern California or in Florida, you can grow them.
The dried ones can also be sprinkled into any soup, salad or dish, specially in powdered form.

Ok I looked it up, for anyone else that wants to know, these are the benefits.~
The leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree have no parallel in the plant kingdom. The Moringa tree is the most nutritious in the world, with most of its benefits stored in the small green leaves of this unassuming plant.
Known as the Tree of Life, it contains more than 90 nutrients including 40 powerful antioxidants. In fact, practically every part of the plant contains important minerals and are a good source of protein, vitamins, beta-carotene, amino acids, and various phenolics.
Moringa leaves are small, thick, and tear-drop shaped and grow rapidly as the plant matures. The leaves are strong and firm and can be easily picked from the tree’s branches.
It's leaf powder contains all eight essential amino acids required for proper protein synthesis. It is rich in flavonoids, including Quercetin, Kaempferol, Beta-Sitosterol, Caffeoylquinic acid, and Zeatin. Stacked full of nutrients, anti-oxidants, and vital proteins, it is quite possibly the most amazing botanical ever studied.
Here are just a few benefits to consuming Moringa:
    Increases the body’s immune system
Provides nourishment to the brain and body
    Promotes energy
Decreases anxiety, depression, and sleep related disorders
Promotes cell structure of the body
Calms, moisturizes, and nourishes the skin
Promotes the normal functioning of the liver and kidney
    Contains antioxidants
    Promotes a healthy circulatory system
    Supports normal sugar levels
    Aids in stabilizing diabetes
Aids in reducing inflammation and related conditions like arthritis

It is also very comforting to the digestive tract. People with IBS or colitis are helped greatly by it. I think it may be because Moringa is a splendid pre-biotic food, which nourishes the beneficial (probiotic) bacteria in your gut.

Here's a tip to save money when processing Moringa. Instead of buying an expensive food processor to chop it into fine powder, use the nutri bullet. The nutri bullet comes with a milling blade and it works perfect for powdering things like dried moringa or tumeric. I grow Moringa in Florida and we use it every day in our smoothies (also made with the nutri bullet)

The way I dry is to remove the stalks full of leaves from the tree, make bunches and tie the stalks, +/- 15 stalks. Give them all a good rinsing in running water, Hang them in the shade stalks up, leaves down for a couple of days. Then I just rake the leaves using my fingers onto a drying tray then leave to dry out prior to grinding.

"Tinolang manok" with moringa looks and tastes very delicious. My mother always cook it for us. However, I'm concerned about the cooking process. The moringa along with the chicken are left to boil for a few minutes. Will there still be nutrients left?

Fresh Moringa leaves is perfect on its own as a snack- wash and dry, place in a bottle container, then pour in some asap boi powder, shake - and just enjoy, as is, or refrigerated.

I use just a wire strainer and by hand rub the dry leaves through so not to cause oxidation from a high powerd blender. I buy from Asian markets and it's not expensive. Also I don't make too much so to use after 1 or 2 months to ensure potency. Thanks for everything John I watch a lot of your videos. 👍

Great video but don't you think that the use of UV could also affect some of the essential bio molecules needed for nutrition since these UV penetration level is high for the leaves???

Hey guys. I need your help. I have a moringa tree, but finding it difficult to get a blender for it. Some blenders do not have the power and overheat. I was wondering which blender/speed/power I must look for. Thank you!

niki k , I live in Florida and am just this year hearing about Moringa tree. Sounds like just what I need for my damaged immune system. Could you send me some seeds or cuttings from your tree, whatever it takes to begin rooting one. Your tree has already been climatized to Florida so should work well for me in Central Florida? I would like to be able to eat leaves fresh off the tree or in salads and your tree sounds just right for that. Thanks for your attention.

@rumihumphrey i also wanted to mention that the leaves are delicious sautéed and in stews and while the powder looks great if your cultivating it is an unnecessary step. i eat it raw right off the plant and love it although light sauté is good. some platens i've noticed are more bitter than others, I wonder if it's the phenotype or environmental factors.

This is what I do, if I can, I rinse the trees with a hose, If not, after I cut the leaves I rinse them. Once rinsed, I pluck the leaves with a sliding motion and put the leafs over a cardboard box and dry them in the shade. Cardboard or other humidity absorbing material like canvas for kots is very important so it won't get fungus. After 4 days i put the dried leaves in a microwave tray and pass it for about 40 seconds so any bacteria will die. Then with your hands(use glove) crush the leaves.
