  • We unbox the North American P-51D Mustang and show you what's inside the box!
    Find out more at www.airfix.com
The North American P-51 Mustang is viewed as one of the iconic American fighters of the Second World War.
Designed to fulfil an RAF specification, the Mustang was transformed once the Rolls Royce Merlin engine was installed.
The P-51D model's long range and excellent firepower made it a superb escort fighter, able to protect the bombers all the way to Berlin and back.

What I like is that there are closed landing gear doors. It will be easy to build it in flight.

It would be nice if Airfix supplied stands or sold them separately.

A contrasting background like the one for "frame e" would show off the kit better. Just a thought.

After I inherit very very old '70 Airfix kits from my dad and contrasting them with current Airfix, is awesome to see how Airfix has improved its quality over time. I'm still getting Revell kits with '70s moulding. Congrats!

I'm building this kit right now. I'm 61 years old, returning to the hobby after 40 years.
I've a fondness for Airfix due to the company introducing me to building in the early 70s. I was buying bagged kits from my newsagent, and now the newer releases are just marvellous.
Great value for money, and I will remain loyal to Airfix, and very, very grateful.

Lovely! Typical modern Airfix - great detail, and a great fit.
Some of the best decals ('transfers' as I grew-up knowing them as...) currently available - please always use Cartograph for your kits Airfix!! 😉👍
I grew-up during the 60s and 70s, and Airfix were the most common kits around for a while - Revell were growing in stock available in shops, but this was before Matchbox launched....
Those old Airfix kits were a far cry from what we see today!!! 😮
Raised panel lines, raised rivets you file your fingernails with, ill-fitting parts, and horrible transfers! But I still loved 'em back then - there was nothing else really; all the other manufacturers were as bad!! 😅
Matchbox crashed onto the scene in the early 70s and there kits were a breath of fresh air... better detail, better fit, and more often, engraved panel lines!! You even got mini dioramas with there armoured vehicles! 🙂
But yeah, these new Airfix kits are what kids like me would have only dreamed of 50 years ago!! Love 'em!
Long may it last...this golden renaissance of Airfix.... 👍👍

Same experience here. But when the 1/72 Martin Marauder came out it was regarded a masterpiece. Still have it, unbuilt! In the early 70s Airfix improved tremendously. FROG was another brand with very interesting subjects. Their Avro Shackleton was the king of rivets!

Ok I admit, I'm a bit of a P51 "lover" and when I say a bit, I mean a lot :) Love the colour schemes chosen, believe they are very appellative and very well thought. When is this due to come out? I'm definitely be getting a couple to build.

It's a nice kit but sadly the price value isn't there. Eduard's Weekend and Profipacks are cheaper and offer more, the old traditional companies are gone the way of the dodo bird and what is keeping them going is that their kits are the only ones available.

    • @tonyde6423

@@tonyde6423 Sure it's a nice kit however there is no reason to purchase it. As I said Eduard is better and cheaper for either boxings. Also I doubt its going to include the mask for The Millie G so markings which Tamiya did and you can still purchase that kit. I would not say it's Airfix's fault but more due to licensing they charge more to release the kit.
