    Hi Holly! I'm 22 and I wanted to try the menstrual cup for sooooo long but as you I had never used a tampon or anything (fill the boxes as you said hahaha) so I was a little bit scared. But after watching your video I decided to try it and I have to say that I DID IT! I won't lie it was tough at the beginning and I didn't get it up there until the fourth day I tried or so but I followed Emily's technique and finally I got the cup inside safely (thank you for that 💜). I was also really afraid of taking it out because to put it inside I could try it and if I wasn't able nothing happened BUT once it was inside I HAD to take it out without practising first!!! The first time it took me maybe 30 mins and I was sweating but for any of you out there that have never used it before and would want to, I just want to tell you that the effort you put in the beginning is worth it 100%. Now the hole process of taking it out, rinsing it and introducing it again just takes me 5 mins and I couldn't be happier to use it :) And also I would like to recommend you to take it one step at a time: I waited until the second month I used the cup to sleep with it just in case it was more difficult to reach it in the morning, until the third to go cycling with it just in case it moved, until the fourth to go swimming... So don't rush things and go with what feels more comfortable with you, I wish you luck in this journey!

      omg alicia i'm SO PROUD OF YOU!!! 🤩🤩🤩 and i feel exactly the same! it has taken me a while to get used to it and you need to take it one step at a time. relaxing when getting it out is also so important, otherwise you will just get stressed and you'll convinced yourself it's lost (even though that cannot happen)!!! big big love and thank you so much for sharing this 💚

    In terms of traveling, you can buy a collapsible silicone pot thing with a lid so you can sterilise wherever you are by just boiling a kettle and pouring the water into the cup! I bought my menstrual cup from FLON (for the love of nature) and it came with this silicon sterilising pot but I'm sure you could find something similar elsewhere! 😊😅

    Hey Holly! You go girl! I'm sure this series will help lift the taboo and stigma around these issues.
    I'm from India, and I see we as a nation have a come a long way in talking about periods and generating awareness about it. Social media influencers and the film industry have helped yes, but I believe the onus of responsibility for destigmatizing this topic should be taken by each and every individual. After all, menstruation is a biological process as basic as respiration and everything related to it should be talked about openly so people can stop getting scared by these awesome inventions like menstrual cups.
    I'm 20 yo and have been using a menstrual cup for 2 cycles now. And yes Holly, it is a game changer xD
    What made me want to try it? Well, for someone with PCOD, irregular, never ending periods. LOL I'm almost grateful for them. They would sometimes last for 15-20 days and given the climate here in India, pads were uncomfortable as hell! What I've observed is, once a girl hits menarche, she's handed a pack of pads which she uses without questioning, sometimes not even exploring the different kinds and brands available. I personally never knew things like tampons or cups even existed until I stumbled across some yt video one fine day. Even super markets keep only pads here, yup even in metropolitan cities. But given how done I was with pads because of the whole itching and rashes situation, I was more than enthusiastic about using a menstrual cup. Tampons too were an option, but nothing can beat the no waste generation and no changing for 12 hours things that cups provide. So yeah, after I had done plenty of research, I ordered my cup about a month ago. Nobody in my circle had used anything other than pads in their lives, so I was left to myself trying to figure out the ins and outs of it. People like you making yt videos sure did help. Being comfortable with my body and imagining how it's gonna end all my period woes too helped. I almost literally snatched the package from the delivery man and rushed to try it, yeah I was that enthusiastic about it. Not scared one bit, coz what in the world could possibly go wrong right? It's a dead end, there's no way it can get stuck.
    Not to boast or anything, but I was able to put it up in one go. And it did NOT really pain. You just need to be wet enough down there and relaxed, it'll be very smooth, trust me.
    Taking it out can get a bit tricky, but it's just a couple of times until you get a hang of it. Even if it takes a few tries, keep trying, don't give up or think its too difficult. It'll be difficult if you think it's difficult. It's all in the mind haha.
    I want girls to read this comment so bad. I know it's a bit too long, but I feel like writing a book or something, I have so much to say lol.
    In a nutshell, people please don't be scared. Give it a go, you'll be super proud of yourself. It'll be the best thing you can do for yourself and the planet. It's not as scary or as difficult as it seems, I repeat. You've got this!

    Top tip for removing the menstrual cup- bear down like you would going for a poo or how you might imagine pushing a baby out! Use those kegel muscles to give yourself some downward movement before you put fingers in so you’ve less distance to grasp it 😊

    • @aislinne.904
      @aislinne.904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah that's how I do it too.
      And then I hold onto the nubbsy on the downside with my thumb and the middle finger and use my index finger to break the seal.
      Especially when the vacuum is super strong.
      Another thing when the cup leaks because the flow is to heavy, try a different size, there are smaller and bigger ones. But when the cup is full it will still leak.
      So if the flow is super heavy, you might want to add a pad or period pants or something. Also if the flow is that heavy you should probably go to your doctor ;) Unless you know already why it is so heavy.

    i've been using my menstrual cup for nearly a year now and yes, it's a game changer!!! love not having to spend like $10 on tampons every couple months (or using a pad that's who-knows-how-old because my dad bought them when they were on sale at drugstores and i ended up with the whole stockpile after my mom reached menopause alfkjdalfkdsjf)
    17:45 i got a tiny collapsible silicone cup at the same time i bought my menstrual cup. i've found it to be the best and easiest way to sanitize my menstrual cup kinda discreetly. i've lived with 3 housemates for years, and no one has asked me about a tiny cup of hot water with something visibly floating in it, just sitting out on the kitchen counter. from the customer reviews that i've read, it seems that water tends to overflow if you heat it in the microwave, so i just boil some water in a kettle and pour the water in. put the lid on the cup too, because a cup that size is gonna lose its heat pretty fast

  • @simonen6788
    @simonen6788 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For traveling you could maybe use a whisk to secure the cup and makesure it doesn't touch the pan. If you maybe than put the lid on the pan it's more discrete.
    Another thing: you could use a soap without perfume (like a "medical" one from the drug store) to preclean it.

  • @marenclaw
    @marenclaw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can use Hydrogen peroxide to sterilise the cup instead of boiling it. Just put it in a (drinking) cup, cover with the solution, and leave for an hour or so. I've been sterilising it like this for 2 years now since I have a communal kitchen

    This is good. With 50% of the population being female, I am at a loss as to why speaking about such things is ‘taboo’. Knowledge is power for everyone. I feel like periods are like some mysterious thing that girls are just supposed to know about, but it is natural and if everyone can understand a little bit then it helps society. Just like now in the workplace we are learning how to support our colleagues going through menopause. Well done Holly!

    Try putting it in upside down instead of rotating it to that position, I find it way more comfortable and really cuts down on the pain for me :) also make sure to aim towards the base of your back rather than up!
    Also fun fact, even if you wore nothing, in the swimming pool your body creates a natural seal, so actually IN the pool, nothing would come out. it's when you get out of the water that everything would leak out

    I have been using my cup for a few years now and I started out doing the punch down fold (the way you insert it in the video) and I always had troubles with it not wanting to open once it was inside, so I tried the C fold which is just folding the cup in half to make a C or half moon shape and I havent had any troubles with it! As for removing it, I just pull it out by the stem and that works for me. I have never experienced any pain or the stem breaking off, my cup is still perfectly fine.

    • @Ra1nb0wPuff

    FINALLY! I have found that Pixie cup makes electric cup sterilizers: one using steam, the other UV. So if you don’t have acces to a pan (but you do to an electric outlet), you just put the cup in it for 5 minutes and that’s it. I guess Pixie’s sterilizers work with other brands too.
    When travelling, you should find a public electric outlet for just 5 minutes in a café or something, and you are good to go.

    For those saying cups CANT be worn if you have an IUD please read this. This is very dependent on the individual and their anatomy. It’s not necessarily a rule that people with an IUD can or cannot use a menstrual cup. I think it is important that all the information is out there and I know you meant absolutely no harm with this! But here are some facts which may be useful to anyone who may consider if using a cup with an IUD is a good idea for them. The studies are minimal but there have been some anecdotes of an IUD coming out. Although these are very few. It depends on anatomy, the type of IUD, the length of the strings as well as personal risks and weighting the risks vs benefits. The only way to know these things for sure is to talk to the professionals who placed the IUD. Many don’t need to worry as the risk is small and the IUD strings can be trimmed. For me personally, I have endometriosis and an IUD for that, and in the past 3 years, my Mireya has self expelled unexpectedly over 3 times. Although, I have other genetic conditions and chronic illnesses which mean that for me, a menstrual cup is ideal. On talking with my OBGYN, they said my anatomy is tilted, the strings are short and the benefits of the cup out weighted the risks. Also, if you choose to wear one with an IUD, the way you place it should be done with making sure that you keep the strings away from the edges and making sure the cup is right for you and then making sure to break the seal before you remove it, that way it minimises the risk of it being ‘sucked’ out. Hope this helps

    Trim the tail as much as possible, but not poke it, is very helpful. It will not sticking out of your vagina and not causing chafing and itching.
    And make sure to sterilize with by boiling it in water before use is so important as it can cause yeast and itchy inside the vagina. After that, just clean it with soap is fine. And make sure to clean the cup very thoroughly when washing it with soap. You don’t want to chance the ph of the vagina.

I have the size small so it's not cus it's too big I also did relax myself so the muscles aren't tensed up (?) But it still won't go IN ??!

    If you are going to promote the use of menstrual cups and talk about periods it might also be a good idea to touch on the topic of toxic shock syndrome. Although rare, it's really important to understand how it can occur and symptoms to be aware of.

  • @emmajanusky3707

    answer: no, your menstrual cup will not come out when you're going "number two"! the little holes at the rim of the cup are what creates a seal when it's inside you - meaning little/nothing leaks because it's essentially vacuum sealed! in order to break the seal, you have to do so with your hands and kind of push against one of the sides to break the seal (and take it out). thus - no, you cannot push your menstrual cup out :)
    (unless, like holly said, you're pushing as if you're having a baby... which is very intense and you may need to see a doctor LOL)

    the cup is a great idea, however, no one covered in these kinds of videos that if you have a heavy period, there’s no point even attempting! my cup was full in about 15 minutes of wearing! (i used a decent sized one aswell) i was pretty disappointed bc i’d never used tampons bc fear of tss but thick pads can be REALLY bothersome, especially in the summer, feels like the cup is targeted mostly towards people with light periods only

      maybe try a different cup?? I have endometriosis and some days are v v heavy and I've loved using the cup. Of course it's all personal preference and some days you might need to change it more but if there is a good seal around it you should be okay for at least a few hours. Everyone is different obviously but for anyone with heavy periods don't write it off straight away!

      @@emmanoon5379 i have stage 4 endo!! i tried diapers last month, in this heat i think, although they feel more secure, it’s super super hot in them. this month i tried tampons and i have to say, life changing! the cups suction put me off aswell and having to dig it out with the pain of the period- was a lot to handle sometimes aswell as filling up really quickly :((

      @@HollyGabrielle i would actually LOVE to try, i just haven’t heard good things about heavy periods with those aswell! i’ve tried diapers and while they’re super comfy and secure, it does get sweaty really quickly 🥴. if period cups weren’t such a huge investment (since mine doesn’t work for me, it’s just a waste of money and material bc what can i do with it other than throw it away…) i’d love to try and find the right one for me personally, however imma leave it for my lighter period people 😅

    Stay away from menstrual cups if you have an IUD friends, the vacuum can "suck" the IUD out! :)

    • @kategreenaway2271
      @kategreenaway2271 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hope this helps.
