  • In this video, we review the symptoms of a failed PCV breather hose on the factory B9/B9.5 EA839 3.0t equipped S4, S5, & SQ5. This hose fails on stock & tuned vehicles. Symptoms of the breather hose failing are oil evacuating from the oil cap, around the PCV, and the oil cap loosening and/or removing itself in extreme cases.

    034 should invest some time into more content like this. This could be another big thing to separate you guys from the competition.
    For instance, if people saw 034 had a bunch of livestream clips AND videos (diy or tips) more people would for sure make the right choice and go with 034. I think that would really up your sales.

    Hey I need to order the part for mines my oil cap keeps getting blown off 😅

  • @pearl04tl
    @pearl04tl ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I assume the unwanted ejection of the oil cap is due to the oil cap unthreading? It does not just blow off from the full threaded on position, correct?
    If it's a case of loosening by boost pressure (unthreading) and as a safety precaution, it may be possible to drill a small hole in the oil cap perpendicular to the slot which runs from the 9 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position (drill the hole closest to the 9 o'clock position) and implement a safety wire style fix where the oil cap is tied off to the nearest engine hoist eyelet hole. When the oil cap tries to rotate counterclockwise, the safety wire mechanism will hold it in place to prevent that unwanted movement.
    The negative of this type of fix is the inconvenience of having to remove the safety wire style mechanism when needing to fill oil and replace it when done. Maybe use some type of keyring within the oil cap hole and a reusable heavy-duty cable tie (one that can withstand the environment of the engine bay).

    • @034motorsport
      @034motorsport  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the cap unthreads, once it gets loose however the boost pressure and vibration can spin it off quite quickly

      Don't quote me on this but, What I've heard is; You may also see the engine burning a little oil on the process, making it look like you didn't use enough oil when changing it/replacing it, or that you need to top it off sooner than before, or ever.

    Hi I have a friend with audi s5 with a p04f00 EVAP high pressure. passive/sporatic. He also mentioned that at cold start up he has lack of brake pedal but once warmed up goes back to normal. This far fetched but I was wondering if this pcv valve would cause brake booster problem. I know that there is a vacuum pump that supplies vacuum to brake booster and waste gate solenoid. I would like your expert opinion. Thanks by the way for all your great videos

    I recall asking about Racingline's PCV replacement Oil Catch can on one of the live episodes and Jivad pretty much blew off my questions stating the B9 PCV is pretty stout. Now all of a sudden the PCV is not so stout...

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We have been working on our own catch can kit for a year now, so not sure why I would blow off a question like that. In fact I do remember answering your question, and yes at that time we did not know the PCV was a failure point, then thanks to our car burning down we learned it is.
      Everyone thought that factory PCV was good back then, now everyone knows it’s a point of failure.

    At least the PCV is easily accessible in this new V6 and not a PITA like the B8 3.0t's. Still a shame to see Audi not able to make a robust PCV system for over 20 years. They'll get it right im sure when all their cars are electric lol.

  • @sebastiantu6212

    • @034motorsport
      @034motorsport  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While others may have had failures or issues with that component, we've only had experience with failures of the breather hose component of the PCV system - which this video walks through how to test & diagnose.

      @sebastiantu6212 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got it! I tested it today and it held pressure. I didn’t takeoff the “irremovable” hose and instead took the 2 pinch ones off and blew into the short one. May be interesting to note that you don’t need to? (Assuming I’m not missing anything) I did have a slight coating of oil but that’s expected

    Do you think that this would cause a misfire? I’m having a very odd issue with my 2019 S4 where when idling the car will start to misfire but anytime I get underload. The engine immediately runs smooth. I’ve tried replacing the coil packs and the spark plug as well as moving the coil pack to see if it is a different one, but I continue to get a cylinder six misfire. So we're saying the PCV system is insufficient/faulty. Have you tested the updated OEM part for longevity, and have there been any failures with that part that have been noted? As the Audi TSB only stipulates 2017-2019 models within a specific range as being affected. So curious how problematic this actually is for those with the updated OEM part.

    • @034motorsport
      @034motorsport  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Long term testing is currently being conducted so there is no way to truly have a 100% accurate answer on whether or not the revised part will hold up over time. But as of now, it is a good step to ensure you have replaced the old part with the new variant and inspect regularly to avoid potential damage from a failed PCV.
      This should hold over most vehicles until our full PCV and catch can solution is released later this year.

      Got it. I’m new to understanding how the PCV works. This video does a great job kickstarting the conversation. I do have a question.. What are the consequences of NOT evacuating pressurized air from crankcase?

    • @034motorsport
      @034motorsport  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ucisigma All of the seals and components within the crankcase are designed to operate under a light vacuum. That vacuum keeps various oil seals, piston ring seals, and other internal systems in place. If there is no vacuum in the crankcase, or even worse, positive pressure, those systems can be strained. Signficant positive crankcase pressure can result in oil consumption issues, backpressure behind the pistons that can lead to reduced performance, and oil seals like the front and rear main can actually blow out and leak.
      Keeping a slight vacuum within the crankcase is crucial to keeping the entire system running as it should.
