I put a lot more hours into this game than I care to admit. I can remember spending the early morning hours racing against Jr. just before he went up to the Cup series.
I use to play this wikth a joystick got pretty good even if I was only playing at what felt like 20ish FPS most the time I still loved it even on the bag of shit computer I used to play it
I would turn around and go forwards as fast as I could the wrong way, and try to take out as many drivers as I could then turn around real quick and try to catch back up. Found out if I really wanted to get 1st place, I just had to drive normally lol. But yea, the 1996 version is the one I have, so many fun times lol.
@@djlinux64 well if we're just going to add every game to it then wreckfest has great damage model but he wasn't talkin about every racing game so beamNg has nothing to do with it. He was talking about NASCAR video games as a whole since NASCAR racing 2003 the damage model has been crap crap and there is no excuse good enough as to why considering wreckfest on Xbox one can do it and Nascar 2003 for PC can do it the last twenty years so there absolutely zero excuse for why devs have refused to add a realistic damage model
This game was a gem in my childhood! I begin painting cars with the tools in this game 20 years ago when i was 6, now im a professional graphic designer and racing cars are my passion, i just realized that...keep an eye on your sons out there, listen and be positive with their passions!!
I assume he didn't play this before doing the video the game is not that hard to play when you get use to it I got to be good at almost all tracks Taledega was one I had trouble with at times including a season I dominated except the 2 Talladega races that I had almost the exact same crash in both races car got lost in the corners slammed the wall and I was done lol memories
This was my first Papyrus game. I played with the keyboard, then a game pad. Didn't get my first wheel until the NR3 came out. I had NR2, NR3, NR2002, and iRacing
loved these games I loved the damage realism I played this game and the first one as well as the NACAR Legends and the truck series and both IndyCar ones
I remember truck and we had the mods to make cars look like the 70's...90's were good gaming days. I even bought the 4 meg rendition card to get the better textures.
i remember playing this game or one like it as a kid. you could use a website to customize your cars, I believe this is the right game. It's crazy that a game 25 years ago was so much better than games now
I cannot recall if Nascar Racing 2 had the editor. For sure, Nascar Racing 1 had it and was amazing. It was not a website, but a program you can run in order to customize the cars.
I played this game in the 90's online on TEN (Total Entertainment Network) by calling in to a server I believe was in Hawaii then later you could connect with your regular internet (dial up) In the 80's when I played Sega and similar systems I said if they ever figure out how to play against other people in their homes it would be amazing...
@@Squakenet I mean textures and rendering range. Your asphalt, grass and some track objects are flat. And opponent cars are dissapearing not far away from your car.
What computer are you using? I just tried at my school and from what I found out is that you can on Windows 10 it's just that the admins have blocked some important things to do so.
You get get the game for free on Game Nostalgia. You download the game and DOSbox from the DOSbox website. The NR2 download is setup so when you “run,” nascar racing 2 it will automatically mount itself to DOSbox and it will run just fine. You don’t need to type any computer code in or anything.
@@Squakenet very tricky game. Actually, those sims from Papyrus were very realistic. Indicar Racing (I & II), Nascar Racing, awesome games. Each speedway required precised and different adjustments (tyre pressure, shocks, wings etc), you had to practice a lot before attempting to race a full season with acceptable success (definitely finishing the races was a huge success). Even when you stopped at the pit lane you had the chance to make some adjustments that eventually will pay off. Still got the original games. Papyrus set the bar really high.
My God this game was ahead of it's time...I put in hundreds of hours playing this.
So do I I love this game even sometimes would make the less known drivers stronger

Me too! I had so many custom painted cars. LoL
All right!! Me too i spent nights playing it
I used to drive the track in reverse to get the biggest crash going as I could
Hehehe, it was the funniest thing to do... I think I am going to make a video to show how funny it was!
Yes!!!!! Did that with this game, especially when I couldn’t keep up with the leaders.

We all did that....sometimes I'd try to pull a Rockford at the last second to take out two rows of traffic at Talladega
The damage on this game looks more realistic than the games of today
I agree
Why do modern devs hate damage so much. Props to RaceRoom and iRacing with updating theirs.
i was thinking same XD
only if you never heard of BeamNG (2013-present) i agree this game is great

Spent hundreds of hours playing g this as a kid, I want a copy of it again!
Damn this game still looks good.
That sure was some smooth driving there, Cole Trickle. You must be an engine-builder's nightmare.

I still have this game. It was great back in the day Winston 1996

This game was really impressive for 1996
Sad that this game has more customization than any current nascar game.

epic times...i love how the track builds up in the background lol :D
My dad would sit and rawdog 500 mile races on this game using nothing but the arrow keys. Legend.
"We're under caution, caution is out." So many great memories with this game!
dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon where the meta in this game
I was 9 when i played this. Showed my dad and he immediately started reverse racing to wipe everyone out. It was the only game he would play
Is that Ned Jarret as the spotter?
I just got this today a unopened copy can’t wait to replay it

I remember that it crashed often when I click the Race Button. But this Game was so good that I never gave up to play it with my crappy Controller.

It seems you didn't set highest graphics detail. It can be done ingame by pressing F-keys.
Is there any better than that? I did not know, I thought I were playing with full resolution!

"Starting a season and trying to finish the first race. Opponents did not want to.." Yeah, its not the opponents that are the problem here.
Did you know how to play with another car? I want to play with Jeff Gordon
how do you play this in such high res? mine looks so pixelated compared to running indycar 2 in hires mode
Not sure if the default was meant to run in SVGA. Otherwise there are options (-h IIRC) to run the game in hi-res mode.
@@Squakenet so no svga mode huh? what about 3dfx patching the 50th anniversary edition?
Green flag green flag green green green!
Sounds like the same voice used for many of the Jane's air combat games.
It's Ned Jarrett, a former NASCAR driver and TV commentator.
Ah, cool. I never knew he did the voice for other games. Thanks!
what commands are used for running this
because im having trouble doing this as im new to dos

Wow you’re really good at that
Sarcasm!?
LOL, could tell driving was Keyboard, or D-Pad on a controller...lmfao
linux?
I loved going the wrong way
Yeah, I think it was one of the most interesting thing to do if you just wanted to have some fun!
12:40 nice
This person should try playing football instead. He is a very lopsided NASCAR driver.
My God if your going to show the game atleast put some effort into driving that was pathetic as hell
Well, the fact is that it's a very complete simulation and it takes a while to get used to it. In particular if you play with a keyboard.
