I refused to sell Wambugu apple business to a white man for 30M, today it’s worth billions | LNN

  • Today, one Wambugu apple tree makes him a cool Ksh.60,000 after an average production of 500 apples, 4 annual harvests, and a market price of Ksh.30 per apple.
    But, the opposite would also be true
    Had he sold the Wambugu Apple Concept to an investor over 10 years ago, he would be languishing in poverty and would not have been able to buy his four children large chunks of land
    He however maintains without a shadow of a doubt, his wife is the reason he has come this far. Without her, there would be no Wambugu Apple
    His daughter Kate will also talk to us extensively about the apple business in Kenya, the do’s and donts and why Wambugu Apple is putting Kenya on the map

    30 million was a lot of money then!!!! Thank you, Papa Wambugu, for not selling your childrens' heritage for a bowl of lentils. Money is paper... what you have is wealth..land and good farming. And now many people are benefiting from this too. Huge respect 🙏🏿. Thanks, Lynn and LNN team, for bringing this amazing legendary man.

    For me K.A.R.I takes the day for patenting the Apple for the wambugu’s. That really saved them. The idea of Wambugu going selling the apples and bringing all money home and all the family members would see their labor is a big lesson for accountability and motivation for the family members.

    I love that Papa Wambugu gives all the glory to God and attributes all his knowledge to Him. Nations are coming to Him because he refused to sell his birthright like Esau. Lessons learned from this episode:
    -Let God be glorified through your successes
    -The hand that gives is the one that receives
    -Find a smart spouse, work in one accord, and trust in God to fulfill what he promised

The same chef told him he wanted a mixed apple which opened wambugus naive brains to mix different varieties according to him “ how we mix water; milk: tea leaves to get tea; out of that “ Wambugu Apple” was born; this will live for generations and generations; may God grant you long life “legendary Wambugu, every dream is valid;

    Kudos Lynn for focusing on agriculture as a source of wealth creation. We need to inspire the upcoming generation to stop seeing farming as a poor mans hobby. There is a looming shortage of agricultural specialists since it is being shunned by youth who prefer to pursue the new avenues available - social media and tech. Let the youth see such role models to believe that there is good money in agriculture if done right.

    Mr. Wambugu thank you for not selling your seed to those who thought you did not deserve to be known, popular, blessed, wealthy and happy. I applaud you for securing your childrens childrens inheritance. May you continue to keep this apple tree patent in our beloved Kenya as you bless the rest of the world . Well done.

    I agree it's very important to leave something for your kids..we're a family of ten, my parents struggled to educate us to whatever level we wanted. They also bought land in prime areas in the 1980's. They also left us apartments. Now we're building more apartments and buying land to leave our children. No matter what little you leave your children, it will benefit them and their children's children.

    I have been so mesmerised by this interview. Lyn, keep up the good work girl! Papa Wambungu, thank you for focusing on the vision and not being swayed by the offer of a lot of money. You are a true example of a God fearing man/husband/father and leaving an inheritance for your children's children whilst you are still alive. Mama Wambungu, you are a great example of a virtuous woman. Ambassador Kate, may God continue giving you more wisdom as you promote Wambugu apples worldwide. Indeed wealth is in the soil. Thank you for the inspiration and stay blessed.
