That is a very interesting version of the kit. The current version comes with the in-line 6 cylinder engine, and a Buick Nailhead. Even though it does not appear to be a correct 340, AMT did attempt to put a Chrysler engine in the kit.
We have had some heat here in Bluefield, WV. A couple of days the thermometer in my car registered 91, and one day was 92. Normally the temperature here is between 75 and 85 degrees. Bluefield is the air conditioned city, and the city serves lemonade when the official template hits 90 degrees or above. The official temperature here has been in the 86 to 89 range.
    Thanks for sharing.

I built this kit about 20 years ago and painted it a similar green to the model on the box. However, I built it as a stock '41 Plymouth with the flathead I-6. and skinny tires. I believe it was a slightly later issue, though.

I have several AMT catalogs, and a few product listings as well, from the 1970s. I did some sleuthing and the best I can tell, the first '41 Plymouth kit (T148) was released in mid-year 1976. It doesn't appear in the '76 catalog, but it's shown in the '77 catalog without any indication that it was a "NEW" kit for that year. The "Rocker" version shows up as "NEW" in the 1978 catalog, and was listed as a January 1978 release. ScaleMates is a fun little reference, but can't always be trusted. The first-issue kit could only be built stock; the "Rocker" could only be a street rod. They were getting away from multi-version (3-in-1) kits around then, probably thinking they could sell more total kits by separating the versions into their own kits. We had a heat wave up here in western New York last week, with three or four days of temps in the 90s. I know, you're thinking that that's nothing, but if it helps, we usually get high humidity on those days as well. Yesterday we had nice, dry, crisp Canadian air. Re: those tires, yes, I definitely remember ruining many of them by cutting that center piece out. You described the experience perfectly. And here I thought it was just me being a klutz.

Thanks for sharing Matthew. Phoenix, Az (aka Hell) here. Official temp today was 111 but when I was out mid afternoon my car said it was 114. Nice kit and you got it at a steal. Yes, flash back then was extremely common. When you bought a kit you knew were going to spend an hour or so cleaning parts. Those tires were the worst. Trying to cut or clip the centers out never went perfectly. After you're done you have to choose which sides to show. Interesting comparison. During that era of kits they all did variations on their kits. Use the same molds but add and subtract parts to fit the newest concept.👍👍

The decals scream mid-late 70s, like 77 or so. You are right about starter location. The valve covers were 5-bolt, the bottom two corners are the ones you're missing. The exhaust is not quite correct, but the middle two would be siamesed not unlike a SBC.

Believe in 1973 First issue This Kit Was Produced During AMT shift in Ownership when AMT was owned by Racing Champions or Lesney tge 1 Way kit Was Cost Cutting by Reducing parts Count to use Less plastic While AMT kits Shifted to China Production ?? So its Oddball Version !!

David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Tuesday, 25 June, 2024).
    UPDATED
Hey, Matthew. I trust that you and yours all are well.
I am looking for kits of sedans immediately prior to the Second World War, e.g., the 1942 Ford, Plymouth, etc., that the War Department had conscripted in prelude to the war effort as staff cars for military officers, federal government administrators, designers and engineers, manufacturing executives, etc. I understand that Ford after the 1941 model year had begun a complete redesign-body, drive train, chassis, etc.-so cars (and the model kits of them) prior to that time (1942) would be quite unlikely to be part of this new development, making them unworkable.
A few aircraft model makers over the past few decades have produced combat aircraft kits in 1:24th-scale (one must look carefully, as the older ones from the 1970s are despairingly crude, even uselessly misshapen. By contrast, some of the newer kits of warbird replicas I read/hear are flabbergastingly accurate and astoundingly detailed!), and I would like to place beside them such a vehicle. Similarly, Hasegawa several years past had made a well-crafted, highly detailed model of the Willys Overland M-38 U.S. Army ¼-ton 4×4 light utility truck, the famous Jeep that crossed over into popular culture through television programmes, movies, newspapers, magazines, comic books, etc.
