- We've seen Andrew Feather smash the GCN team on a number of occasions, and we're fairly sure he's the best climber in the world! But the GCN Italia team reckon there could be someone even better, Il Bandito! We went to one of the hardest climbs in Lombardia Italy, where we pitted these two titans of climbing against each other in the ultimate race - who is the best climber in the world?

I agree, I've seen much smaller cycling channels have this feature so I'm kinda shocked GCN doesn't implement it for videos like this. Still a cool vid tho
These comments are totally spot on. Gcn have the budget to do this so much better. Smaller channels making a much better job of it. Great content, just an encouragement to consider how to make it more exciting by video and audio on riders and power and HR, gradient overlays. 👍

There has to be a home ground race on a hill of feathers choice and a neutral ground one where neither have the KOM only way to make sure it’s fair and they are really fun to watch

Just take a wellknow climb, and long one. Like Ventoux or Galibier.
Rowan Barrett from Montreal is essential here to complete the triade. This guys strava and yt appearances are beyond real.

Kudos to Feather for keeping up like this after having a BIG effort the day before. Theese super steep climbs leave quite the pain in your muscles after (at least for me it did) so I understand why he couldn't keep up with IL BANDITO :DDD

I recently found myself on a climb that maxed out at 18% and thought I was going to have a heart attack, and that was in "just get to the top" survival mode, so hats off to riders like these who can race up them at that speed where I'd be gasping and probably dying 😀
I'm 240 lbs, so on a hill, I'm always in "just get to the top" mode. Doing what these guys are doing is just a distant fantasy to me.

Don't worry, you're not alone! They're incredible riders and most of us are in survival mode as soon as it gets to double-digit gradients.

Having Vergallito involved in something like this is probably one of Giorgione's dreams brought to life. Kudos to both riders, remarkable effort!
Both men are impressive riders! I give Andrew a little extra credit for being older, and also for most likely not having had adequate time to recover from his KOM on Italy’s hardest climb before this attempt. Yes, let’s see more of both gentlemen on the channel!

Theoretically (by law, but of course is not applied in reality) you could be sanctioned by law enforcement if you say that in public on italic soil

Andy Feather has climbed a few of the hills near me, I think whilst he was in area for the UK champs a few years ago. His times are phenomenal - I'm convinced some people take longer to get down a few of the slopes than he did to climb them!
It's tiring just watching them shoot up the climb!
I'm not surprised Feather was 40 watts down if he'd ridden the other hill just the day before. It must have been a novel for them both to be riding so fast and still have someone with them.
The cyclist with right train can recovery an hour at full effort in one day

@@tompriestner9007 one hour of maximum effect at FTP level, like a test, produce more or less 100 TSS…. According with Coggan description, this type of effort will be recover in one day.
During the gran tour the professional cyclist reach 300tss per day….and the best cyclist get each performance at same level day by day.

Think a pro cyclist could go for the hour record and then repeat that effort the next day? LOL
@@philipk4475 of course, I’m just give the idea about the concept behind single effort. I think that Feather did’t done an hour of FTP test or hour record competition during the day before.
If he did a 20min of full effort 24h before this competition I think that it is totally irrelevant. It’s my opinion.
Anyway, regarding the professional cyclist…during Imola world championship WVA reach 2° place in crono race on Friday and another 2° place during road race on Sunday, against other fresh professional cyclists.
KOM on the Stelvio??!!! Impressive by Il Bandito! Great ride by Feather though, only a few seconds behind.
Would have been nice to see Power and Heart rate during the effort.

@@mnbv5555cxz don't even need transponders, you can just take the data from from the ride file and use premade overlays to display it on video, it would be literally less than an hour of work for the editors
I like to see more of the two going against each other. Go somewhere it is not someone’s home advantage and both are fully rested.

you need to get Phill Gamon to race some of these climbs. Or you know come to Big Bear, California to race him on his favorite climbs & to race the Team Legion climber.
Wish you had power meters that we could see real time throughout the ride. Great video.

I'd love them to do Mt. Rigi (nicknamed "Queen of the mountains") in central Switzerland. It's neutral terrain, 1200+m ascent on 11km, good part 20%+ and a magic view from the top.
After this video Vergalito is now in world tour, thats strange for someone who didnt win when he was younger , but beating Andrew Feather give you wings !

Andrew Feather is a machine but when Il Bandito dropped the watt bomb near the end he had nothing remotely like the power needed to keep pace.

Guys, the swearing in Italian cracked me out of laugh I must say, so out of the blue. Although I have to point out for your knownledge @GCN that the first bit is consider a pubblic offence here in Italy (for real, I am not jocking even though is rarely rarely pressed as charged) and it could lead to some form of shadow ban or demonitization of the video, if someone presses the report buttom, I am afraid

I love these videos and the fact that these cyclists have full-time jobs and still doing amazing on these climbs. Also, the steppes climb I have ridden is about 12 or 15% I cannot imagine going on a 20% climb ill probably do the walk of shame 😆

We've recently done a 300m hill with a max of 27% and sat at an average 20% for the majority of the short climb. But I didn't know if I was more scare of flipping my bike backwards or not making it to the top! 😂 So a massive sized kudo to these two men! I felt breathless just watching it.
At 40% you may backward your bike 😉

We have a guy called Demonic Dan in Adelaide who has hundreds of KOMS set on steep hills both paved and gravel, also has the record for steepest everesting in history. Why not try your luck against him during the 2023 tour down under.
I used to be just a runner that could run a half marathon at a pretty good pace. I found GCN after starting my training for a triathlon when I could barely make half distance (12.5 out of 24.9 miles) on the biking portion without felling like my legs were going to fall off. Many of these videos helped change how I train/how I bike during a race and I just did a ride yesterday that was 120% of the race distance for triathlon biking at race pace (30 out of 24.9 miles) and I even felt great enough to run most of the 10k (6.2 mile) run immediately afterwards. With the help of GCN's videos, I am well ahead of what I thought was ever going to be possible with my current level of fitness. Thank you GCN!
