By the way, the setting for AC6 has been explained in the game's Steam page Story Overview A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, this substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System. Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.
So the leaks where true.... is this substance still called melange ?probably not And also we already had/have kojima particles doing its fuckery now we'll have even more paratechnology magic fuckery
Best way to describe this feeling, Dad finally came back from the store, it may not even be the same Dad as before, but we will love him as if he had never left.
I just noticed something interesting during the AC getting/changing weapons. It seem you had an option either to have a hangar weapon or a shoulder weaponry because on it's left shoulder it looks a bulky boxes that could be a missile pod to be use.
The quad-leg AC does get hit by missiles before going after the main AC. Also the pile bunker used by the main AC is so cool looking. Makes me hope they're more viable in this game.
I honestly like the option to fit regular back weapons like plasma cannons and grenade launchers like the old games but also being able to use your back weapon slots as hangar space for arm weapons
Yeah they mixed up the weapon system again this time. You had both the weapon bays from 5th-gen that held extra guns, as well as back-mounted missile pods and cannons from 4th-gen and earlier. The quad leg in the trailer seems to have a back cannon.
I'm so happy with this trailer. Also I think back weapons are still gonna be in the game. Cuz in the same frame that you see the arm weapon switch. You also see a back mounted missile pod open up. I think what they will do is have back mounted arm weapons as an option if you don't want to rock missiles or a heavy canon. Welcome Home, Raven
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 I personally think an open world would be quite nice. not, like, a persistent open world (though I'm an exploration lover so any open world anything is my game) but one of armored core's greatest strengths is its customization and mobility, while its greatest weaknesses are parts tied to story progress and the story and world feeling incomplete, and if you're not up for postgame shenanigans, the story and endgame weapons feel wasted. I'm not the nostalgic or traditionalist type, but I feel taking a story about being a lone gun, and having it fully take place among others, with others, or against others... might be self-defeating. The core loop simply doesn't... need to be story based, or directly linked to a story at all, while with secret weapons and alternate mission objectives, huge arenas in nature and cities, alternate endings, they clearly wanted to give the player more freedom than the missions would originally suggest. An open world might end up more armored-core-flavored than any previous game. If you're a mercenary, where are all the side-quests and side-objectives? I'm thinking more that it might take the shape of: everything is gone, your armored core IS your home base now. you can go around and do stuff but the core loop is still taking missions, preparing for the missions, doing the missions, and getting ready for the next one. I'm also open to a crafting/upgrade system, that would reward players for spending time to make their favorite parts, regardless of power, better. imagine someone designing a weapon, so they aim their sniper with a map, or a dedicated guerilla strike machine that dumps all its ammo in a moment. A massive map and player-oriented deployment could let you turn an elimination mission, into an assassination mission, by finding a nice perch that can view an arms deal, or so on, and low mobility can work better if you need to go on long excursions and need better range and health values. Soulsbourne games are big on "if you can make it work, it works." and from software found a winning formula with elden ring- I doubt they'll fully let that go. TL;DR; I think an open world would be able give what the other games lacked, while trimming the fat and being able to contain far more of that tasty fromsoft cryptic-as-hell lore.
A lot of the mech designs have that Crest esque feel too it. I think FS is backtracking a lot of the aesthetic choices they made with B/VD, hopefully. I really love how they're weaving in Gen 3/4 mech Aesthetic together. It looks super solid. I honestly just hope it doesn't turn into V/VD with the extra combat mechanics but I'd love it if we got Last Ravens or 4s game pacing with Primal Armor, Assault Armor and Exceed Orbit again.
I'm dying to see some game play mechanics, then we'll know for sure. I don't think Fromsoft will take the high-speed, aerial route of 4/For Answer, but I'd like some decent flight capability with Verdict Day mechanics.
@@shokmusic_AC I wouldn't mind a game with 4s speed again. As an oldhead to the series I found gen 5 mostly an eyesore. Gen 5 five was just unneededly clunky in terms of mechanics and AC6 should keep it simple with a few bells and whistles.
@@whiteglint8714 As a fellow oldhead, I totally get what you're saying. V & Verdict were acquired tastes that I wasn't able to truly embrace. I just enjoyed the "grounded" feel in comparison to AC 4/ For Answer. In retrospect, V/Verdict were full of over-corrections that made the game play inconsistent. But I'm really curious about the game play in AC 6...That we can even have a conversation about AC 6 play mechanics is still blowing my mind lol.
I get that. But that big cannon on the starting ac in 2 looks way more like a weapon. Most of them look more like weapons but I guess I just never thought about it
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 they did look to big but they did represent the anti missile system. Btw id like to comment also about the 5th gen ACs, they were much more realistic designs honestly. That junk you were commenting on are armor additions. Tech used on modern tanks. Spaced armor which are plates with distance from the main body good against HEAT rounds. The blocky things are called ERA explosive reactive armor also good against HEAT ammo which ac5 classifies as chemical dmg. Its definitely not standard mecha design but the amount of thought put in is very good. You should look into it more.
I think making it a post-solar flare apocalypse is really interesting. So hyped for my first AC release! Thank you again for getting me interested in this series and I can’t wait to see what you make in the future man!
I'm completely new to this franchise so take my opinion with a grain of salt. But I think that a storyline where the world needs saving could be great as long as we aren't the ones who do the saving. At least not in any significant way. Plus, even when things have been fixed, from what I'm aware the AC world is dark as hell so I can imagine things would just return to the dystopian status quo.
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 Yeah the Vita actually lets you remap the extra thumbstick. It was only way I could play Monster Hunter. I think I'll switch the boost button to a shoulder button so I can have some control while in the air
I haven't been this excited about a game in so long. I had no life playing armored core 4, I skipped 5 because i kinda moved onto PC and didn't play console as much. But this game is now at the top of the "things you need to care about" list
I'm hopeful that more people will be open minded & willing to play Armored Core 6, but I'm also dreading the thought that new players are going into AC6 expecting Souls gameplay just because its FromSoft. It also doesn't help that majority don't know the Armored Core series very well & it also doesn't help that Miyazaki said this AC6 was worked on by the same guys who did Seikiro. I'm glad that Miyazaki was quick to point out in the interview that AC6 won't be a SOULS game, but I've seen some TH-camrs immediately say: "Oh, so its going to be like Seikiro then?" Again, I'm hopeful more people are open-minded & give it a try, but I'm very, very worried that they will be disappointed & even give negative feedback just because they *assumed* this would play like Souls/Seikiro just because its FromSoft.
My guess with the weapon switching judging by what we saw from the two ACs in the trailer, is that they just made it a Hangar Back Part instead of tying hangar functionality to your core so you can store any weapon you want instead of a limited selection while also giving them freedom to design the parts how they like since its not tied to your Arms like in V/Verdict Day.
I've been getting into Armored Core lately since I've had a mech-shaped hole in my heart ever since MechWarrior fell into rights hell and then apparently came back with a lackluster game, so it's fucking awesome that there's a new one coming.
I wish Overed are returning just to meme around with them. Side note: AC6 initial directior is Miyazaki but the main director is Masaru Yamamura who apparently had a lot to do with Sekiro and helped with DS3 and Bloodborne.
Looks like a combination of the Gen 3 design aesthetic and Gen 4 tech. Tentatively quite hype. The lead designer from Sekiro is in charge of the dev team. He also worked on Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. He has stated the game will not be a 'souls game' and that it will essentially be a reboot for the Armored Core franchise. Given the trailer and the tech implications I think its in good hands. Sidenote: Technically energy shields did appear on some enemy prototype nexts in AC4 and For Answer.
I think AC6 is actually the rebranding of the unmade sequel to AC4: For Answer. That was originally intended to be a trilogy where the final game was going into space because Earth was badly ravaged by Kojima particles and we destroyed the floating colony cities in the sky in that one mission. Also you can see that mech at the end does have a back-mounted missile launcher so it looks like we will have separate left and right back weapons. It seems what they did is consolidated the extra weapon stowing feature no one really used in AC4 since it added extra weight into the back weapon system to allow you to optionally stow an extra primary weapon instead, rather than just a pistol.
The AC model look like combination between gen 3 and gen 5 BTW cannon in the chest in previous game is actually anti missile, it active automaticly when missile approaching your AC
I take the first few bits as just worldbuilding stuff. I heard someone say recently that we are one solar flare away from everything coming to an end. I can’t help but think that might be exactly what we are seeing in the opening. Some kind of freak catastrophe that brings the world to its knees and now all there is left to do is fight over the few remaining resources. All that remains are ashes, but we’re still lighting them on fire. That sounds perfectly Armored Core to me. Super excited for more people to get introduced to this franchise.
4:21 Note back in the trailer here where the quad leg AC clearly has a cannon/grenade launcher and a missile rack 2:54. This likely means that the primary weapon swap mechanic from ACV is now itself a back unit that's optional, for those who want to run two primaries for one arm over a radar/grenade launcher/cannon/chaingun etc.
A recent interview said it’d be mission based and that they weren’t really going out of their way to make it similar to souls. That and like most numbered AC titles it’s a reboot.
I will accept the new game in any case. But there is a detail about the development. Apparently, Miyazaki has been the chief game director during the initial stages of development of the game, but later moved to another project after designating Sekiro’s lead game director to finish AC6. If my assumptions are correct, we’ll get a hardcore and polished simulator. But, I guess, we’ll see.
I hope they dont bring back a lot of the mechanics in Verdict Day/V. I hope that quick boosting isnt a main combat movement anymore, it sort of ruined the strategies of the earlier titles. Back then it used to be all about maneuvering out of sightlines and making sure you were always the one pushing the enemy to defend. V really just turned into two scrap heaps that teleport around the map till someone dies. I think the focus here on close range weapons might be a hint as to just how the gameplay is going to go this time around. Lots of weapons that look like they take more skill to use, rather than missile boats and long range quick boosting till the other guy just doesn't hit you enough. Also lets hope that the "scanning" modes dont come back either. I don't think this will be open world tho, I think that was just worldbuilding in order to show that the world is so insanely ruined that even using an AC as a traveling scrap shop just happens in order to survive. I like it as a piece of world-lore. Also if you look at the parts, all the blockier parts seem to have some sort of inspiration from the earlier gen3 titles, where as the curvier parts seem to reflect the later game designs. I think this very stark contrast in parts is also a hint to what gameplay will be like. Being able to read the build of enemy ACs might be important, because that quad-ACs primal armor was broken by what looks like an ECM core, so making sure you understand how to counter what you're up against might actually play into new strategies. (ALSO: the Quad AC definitely has a back cannon in that shot where it uses it’s left arm weapon so no worries there!)
You do remember 4/4A is where quick boosting was introduced. I honestly don't want to see it removed but made a defensive maneuver that you can't just spam. Though boost gliding would make sense to completely remove.
@@ned418 I think if it becomes a type of build where your setup makes for quick boosting, that could work. More of a dodge roll situation could work too. They’re saying they want it to be more souls like now, so that may be how it goes.
@@ned418 I never forget the one guy with a thin AC with only like 25k of ap and a pair of MG that sip around the entire pvp match >:( Dude can't even deal damage with his tiny mg but he never stop show off his max side quick boost 800m. away from my C H O K thicc AC :P The entire match feel like i'm a Normal fighting cocky NEXT's pilot who have no Idea that his weapon are for 400m. range... it's fun tho xD
In my opinion, if it were open world or open "zones" it'd be better to attract more players I know most fans won't agree and honestly kinda have mixed feelings about it, but it'd be cool to be able to use the AC units outside missions or to have some kind of lobby that isn't just menus
Open zones would probably make more sense. That way you keep the same mission based structure but get to push the envelope on each level in terms of scale and variety. Plus they wouldn't have to worry about making each area connected.
@@SCF721 agree, would love to have the different zones be different warzones with combat constantly sparking up regardless of your involvement. Have it ao you always have your main mission for the area but have a wide variety of other shit going on as you make your way there. Basically I'm saying i want mecha Stalker lmao. Hell, I just realized that since this time it's a bunch of outside interest groups fighting over this planet's unique resources following a catastrophe, the setup is already basically stalker
I missed a few from project phantasma and ninebreaker. As a gen 0 player from the playstation 1 era, i look forward to seeing what they will put in competitive-wise like master of arena.
Glad I was able to stumble across your channel. As someone that got grabbed by the new Armored Core announcement, having someone give a rundown of the previous installments is super appreciated.
Also remember this is "pre-expansion AC6" cause balance post expansion can get pretty drastic just look at how ACV-VD have largely been formatted as long as I can get to explore missions at my own leisure I'm fine with it cause remember a mission in V can roughly take 1 hour to finish give or take, compared to VD where it only lasts 10-20 minutes
subbed for your earlier break downs of the AC universe, about a six months ago with the original armored core. was nice to get a take on this universe and trailer that wasn't just gob smacking and doing it for views you actually talked about it with some logic and tact. I do look forward to you covering nine breaker and other offshoots if or when you have time.
Honestly though if they want us to be able to fully tricked out our ac to the brim with weaponry. I wouldn't mind having the ability to carry a grenade cannon and missile launcher on the back and have the shoulders reserve for either support weapons/extra arm weapon and internals with misc options. And from the looks of what that other mech did with the emp. Seems like it was a core weapon, similiar to the extra orbit from 3~last raven.
Idk if it is me but, the unit that was salvaging, the quad legs unit and the one with the pile bunker. . . .their parts are look alike from the older parts from AC 2 and up. Like...first units legs look like one of the light weights that can hold decent weight, the quad legs are ones that look from AC3 along with an older model shotgun, and the pile bunker unit's head that seems like white glints from 4Answer and the arms semi resemble another set of medium arms that were known for high energy defense, OH also his Core looks like one of the early overboost cores.
Glad to see your cautiously optimistic as well. I'm, reasonably confident it'll play more like a traditional Armored Core game, with levelsl. However, those individual levels might be larger and more expansive then we've seen in previous AC games, and would allow for the player to scavenge parts and supplies on the battlefield. This might even allow for storytelling within missions outside of the main objective. As for gameplay, if the back cannon on the quad is any indication, it looks like they'll be blending some of the gameplay elements of AC3 through Verdict Day. We might even see core functions return as seperate abilities, such as overboost, orbit cannons and assault armor as options to be added to your mech. Or they might be built into the cores themselves, with different cores having different abilities. Who knows. In the trailer we see both back weapons and a back hanger bay, which means we might be able to pick and choose whether we want a hanger back for an additional arm weapon, or a back cannon for heavier firepower. The return of primal armor, or something like primal armor, is also cool and I'm curious to see how different it is from AC4/FA. All in all, I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll have to wait and see more though.
I'm hopeful it be good because it's form software and I love that they went back to the AC 3 designs and the fact pa and assault armor have returned is nice I was ok with V and verdict but the different weapon types and armor made it more complex then it needed to be.
I hope the OST will be a banger too like from AC3 Nexus, AC4 and AC4 For Answer especially for PvP battles other than the new AC (or NEXT) designs and weapons. It could be an open world but still a bit worried if they can't make it work considering AC series is used to be mission-based narrative/format.
Never get any use out of the guns in the chest piece? Yes you did. Those were the cores with built-in missile defense. The gun fires at incoming missiles. Granted, it wasn't great missile defense but it helped a bit.
I'm thinking they're going to either have a dedicated back slot and a dedicated second arm weapon slot, or you get to pick and choose. The quad leg CLEARLY had a back mounted cannon and the biped had wat looked to be a missile launcher.
So two things I have noticed First: in 4:47 i think that's the animation that you ac will do when changing to scan mode (if they keep it) Second: in one scene of the trailer where you can see a turret shoot with for miniguns, you can see two mechs walking and those might be normals And to end this comment, i they make the ai design better the normal enemies
Its nice to see a fellow Raven express their opinions on this new release. Great breakdown man! I feel like whenever FROMSOFT comes out with a game that isn't souls like, the cheers get drowned out by the endless bickering of the souls community. Don't get me wrong, I love Elden ring, and the other souls games. They're great stories! But I'm a Raven through and through. Even if it really is once every 10 years, please give me my armored core. Also to comment on your breakdown, that electric generator thing looks like it could be assault armor!
It 100% has to be assault armor lol. Idk how I could watch that over and over again and not see that its firing off an aoe and not (what I thought) was a laser beam
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 Its all good man. 10 years will do that to us XD. I'm really hoping they make the game faster than ever. I agree with your sentiment on not really getting into ACV. I played 4A like a junkie, I swear. Nowadays even the emulators are a struggle. I miss AC4A. I hope they take all theyve learned with the series (the good and the bad) and really bring it home with this one
The ACs looks from the armored core 3 era designs but with features from armored core 4 and 5. I too hope back weapons are available to use like armored core 4 (and some of that speed too).
Since fromsoft have stuck with the same dark souls formula for 10+ years I feel many people are going to be dissapointed expecting something more dark soulsy but its actually going to be armored core. Unless they somehow make armored core more soulslike which I can't see. They are 2 very different games.
There's been so few mech games to fill the void, but I do hope they bring balance between the older ground styles and the fast speed aerial engagements. Bosses will most likely have large telegraphed moves thanks to Rubicon weaponry. But if our AC's have advanced hovering movement and high speed dashing like V & AC, I wonder if they'll go the multiplayer route where you just get blasted out of the sky. Honestly I hope ground engagement is preferred, makes terrain and layouts so much more meaningful for ranged fights, and I'd kill for their chromehound style game play.
It's Mission Based thankfully, But AC6 has a INSANE potential for a TON of Choice based outcomes in the game, I personally want Nineball and other old ACs back as Optional Bosses, Not Arena fights, But via towards certain Endings or Post Game Content.
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 just like they did with Nexus, a remaster of some of the best missions in the whole AC series is a good idea especially for new players who missed out.
If you haven’t already, you should take a look at the new interview about ac6 which details some important gameplay stuff. I’m interested to see how they will do melee, but it’s nice to see them sticking to the series roots with missions and customization being the focus. I am also interested in how they will apply general game design lessons they have learned since the last game to this new one.
Also I believe that was a Solar Flare that we saw fuck up the Earth, not a fantastical Galactic thing. It also connects with the whole embers and cinders motifs and the white stuff that covers everything might not be a snow but ashes.
@@HALberdier17 the earlier leaks from way before the trailer called it "Melange". so it must be some sort of miracle mix, that is also super fickle/volatile as it seems to have blown up the whole damn solar system before
Incidentally, although they weren't always seen in use; those cannons on the front of many AC cores are actually that cores anti missile system. If you look in replays in AC3 for example, you can see your red anti-missile laser comes from those cannons unless you have some kind of auxiliary part doing it for you. I hope they borrow more from the AC2/AC3 era of games - which I consider the franchises golden age. I felt like the later games just got too insanely fast paced. To the point that they are barely even the same games imo. I was a long time player of the franchise, and I quit those games after one play through instead of sticking to them for ages after release.
Agreed. I liked Quickboost in AC4 and onward, but the rest of it just felt too super anime robot’y; which largely contrasted the grounded, gritty tone of AC.
Bro i was literally sleep deprived yesterday when I saw it and I had so many emotions when I watched it for first time i just started crying and I'm not really that type person to just start doing something like that. And now i can't sleep lmao
In the same shot as the weapon swap it looks like he has a back weapon missile launcher. It might be that you'll have the option to have an arm weapon stowed on the back or a dedicated back weapon in the same space.
I just want Armored Core 6 to feel more like Armored Core 3, Silent Line: Armored Core and finally Armored Core: Last Raven while briging the better features from those games. Am I alone on this?
I made a "reaction" video of the Armored Core 6 trailer, it looks like they are doing the weapons similar to Armored-Core-5/V. I hope they focus a lot of the action, skill and weapons/abilities that the player chooses rather than heavily focusing on strategy like Chess as they did in ACV. Bit I am also glad they are finally putting an AC game on PC/Steam, this is the first AC game to be on PC.
Plz to the people who's never heard of this game. It is not going to be souls-like (hopefully). Because i want everyone to go in and enjoy the game, and the last thing this game needs is everyone immediately dropping it because it isnt what they thought it should be.
I get not wanting the series to change too much, but it'd probably be a mistake to not use the insights they've gained from the monumental design successes in souls/ER
Especially in the melee combat department, cause old AC melee combat was not the best. This is the sekiro team so im hoping to see that influence here in that regard.
If the leaks are anything to go by, it's definitely gonna be more akin to an open world type deal, which considering how they did it with Elden Ring, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Gameplay wise it may be on the more fast paced side like 4 with elements of the older games, which makes sense since you'd want to traverse the larger world quickly. Also by the looks of the artstyle I'm definitely getting 3rd/4th gen vibes which I love because those are my favorite. Overall I'm just hyped for this. We've waited so long for another installment and I just want to see more!
3:45 Some core parts had built in anti-missile systems. None of them were particularly strong, with he best one being able to strike down maybe 3 missiles every 2 seconds, and they didn't seem able to destroy the big missiles. Enough to mitigate some damage, but not enough to save you from major salvoes. That's what the gun parts on the core was, the laser that shot the missile down. Memory is a little fuzzy but I'm 100% sure they were in AC 2 but only 60% on AC4, since those were the 2 games I played the most.
At the end when the ac is changing hand eeapon on the right you can ser a literal missile pod , it is a single unit of tje double missile pod from ac 3 or at least it looks like it to me, also the quad had a back mounted cannon , safe to say we got both back mounted weapons and hand helds noe wich is great
Nice trailer breakdown. I suspect that some theaters of operation will be interplanetary. This might be a "reinterpretation" of AC 2 in some ways. I'm also hopeful that this game will have AC 3 esthetics with AC 4 and 5 offensive firepower.
Primal Armor btw isn't just an "Energy Shield" It's better understood as a High Radiation Particle Shield, Inhabited by what is called "Kojima Particles". These Kojima Particles (KP from now on) are incredibly destructive, and will actively break down molecules it comes into contact with, literally tearing apart slugs and energy structures (Like plasma and Laser) at the atomic level. KP is also very long lasting, able to coat the land, sort of like Radioactive Fallout. You can even "Kojima Poisoning", which to me sounds like a KP got into someone's blood stream and is actively breaking them down.
2:55 it looks like back weapons are going to be in the game potentially. That 100% looks like a missile launcher and a chain gun / plasma launcher on the quad's back. Or my theory is that it's either core/leg limited. Quads and tanks (or certain cores) get to use them while maybe lighter cores/legs have to use the weapon switching mechanic. That would add some interesting variety and some additional value to quads which always felt kinda like they're just pushed to the side
@@Sabbathfaax or it could also be core function like overbooster/extra orbit from 3~last raven. But instead of replacing OB, it could be an option between extra orbit or assault armor.
The scavenging opening suggests if the game is not an open world at least it will be a semi open world like sekiro and souls Let's be real, the game would fail horribly if it has the mission based progression like previous games, gamers would expect so much more from a fromsoft game nowadays Also rumor says the game is directed by the director of sekiro, also steam page says the game would focus more on close range combat. Even a mechsouls sounds bad but I secretly hope a energy shield(posture) + melee combat system would be much more engaging than two teams of quad feet sniping at each other across the map Overall I think ac6 would have much more on single player content than acv and ac4, so I am definitely hopeful towards a (semi) open world setting, especially imagine the freedom when you could fly
I think missions would be just fine seeing how you need to reload and repair your AC. Being mission based isnt bad it's just how good do you make the missions. Open world isnt a thing of the future. The more open world games get the less impressive content they can be packed with
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 I'm fine with a mission based game as well personally but ac6 would be a (heck) lot of souls players first entry to ac games, fromsoft themselves know better than anyone people would come to this game with certain expectation like exploration and tons of single player content(cough acv cough) Also the mysterious substance definitely gives me a souls lore vibe Anyway, the future is bright for ac youtube channels and I'm looking forward to what the game could bring to us!
Flying is cool, but I really liked the dynamics of the jump height differences of the different leg types in V and Verdict day and how you have to strategically gain height during fast paced multiplayer fights. V and Verdict day was the perfect combo of blazingly fast paced battles and real time strategy. There were no other games like it. Either way, I’m beyond hyped to play AC again. Always been my favorite game series and this time From Software has a bigger following than ever. Now that I think about it, I don’t ever remember even seeing an ad for AC V or Verdict day back in the day
Looking back at earlier entries in the series, I don't think the Rubicon 3 substance/incident is that out of place in terms of tone or setting. Being "grounded" doesn't mean free of fanciful science fiction elements. The original universe of AC1 and AC2 had space travel, and Mars was host to ancient alien technology and Phobos was an alien super weapon. The AC3 universe revolves around ancient advanced technology and malevolent AI. In the AC4 universe, Kojima Particles are the macguffin that enables their advanced technology. Not to mention Lynx's require a "unique psychic trait" to pilot NEXTs. The contamination that caused the desolation of the ACV universe was also caused by Kojima Particles. That universe also featured ancient hostile AIs. It seems like the universe of Armored Core VI is combining all these elements into its setting. It features space travel, and the Rubicon substance will likely be analogous to Kojima Particles. Rubicon 3's desolation and advanced technological remnants is also evocative of the post-apocalyptic setting of previous titles. So, I think Fire of Rubicon's more fanciful presentation is fine. Its just more of the same of what Armored Core's always been doing.
Man, I was part of the coredump community when AC2 first came out. Stopped playing when AC4 came out; it was that bad. I’ve been waiting for this since before AC4 came out. This is the first time a trailer gave me tears of joy. I really hope they get this one right
If you look just a touch closer to the weapon switching scene, there is, what looks like a missile rack on the AC's left shoulder. A pilot might be able to choose if they want a spare arm weapon or a shoulder weapon.
I find it strange that the game is named Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon instead of Armored Core 6. Every entry prior, the first game of the generation was numbered (Or Armored Core for the first game) and the follow up game, usually expandalones, had a subname added. It could mean nothing, or it mean an entirely differnt roadmap/support plan than previously games. I have no idea if that would be positive, negative or neutral, so this is meant an observation, not an alarm bell. Either way, I'm pretty excited for this entry. Glad to see this series being revived, I missed it. Likely a day 1 purchase.
FYI the guns sticking out of their chest. It's been a long time but if I remember right the guns sticking out of their chest means that the Core has a baked in Missile Defense system. if you go to the stats it will say MG response and MG Range (I remember form AC3 so I don't know if they changed it after that). these were more effective the better the value. I learned it because if you go to the extension parts (shoulder armaments) and go the the Anti missile, They have the vs MG values
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 Yeah, i wish I could go back and play them. I dont know the emulation but i played the original games a ton. I had always planned to see if any of the FCS parts had an effect on how good the core defense system was (ex: does having an fcs with a shorter tageting range affect the range of the core's anti missle range) but i never got to. For me, i got a kick out of making AC's for just specific missions. I miss the older games.
I hope you do another video after reading the Lore on Steam. And the interview from IGN. those open up a better look into armored core 6's universe. I wish they would call the Mercenaries Ravens again. but yeah, look into the interview with IGN. and it will not be open world. Honestly I would not have minded an open world AC. I can see it being open world and mission based at the same time. where you would go to a clinent and then you go into an Instance map for the actual mission like the older games. I dont mind roaming and attacking enemies in an open map setting though. something like how Warframe does it where they have semi open world maps.
its not that unrealistic just maybe a tad exagerated but that fire is a solar flare and that shit COULD happen to us and fry pretty much all electronics everywhere
If they made this AC game to be open world faction selectable and we can nomad loot from the environment I welcome that change happily, I think it would be a fresh take for the series to actually be able to loot certain battlefields and/or have to loot any parts from your opponents, I know they had certain lootables in previous games but not like being able to actually go up to the wreck and pick your parts mechwarrior does this in a sense and it's kinda nice to have to loot the broken husks of your fallen enemies, and a game like this deserves a vast open world environment instead of the usual semilinear maps of old
As someone who has played nearly every AC game as well, I feel you on most the thoughts you shared here. Really hoping for that AC3 - LR look and gameplay splashed with some AC4. Something you never mentioned that I'd like to see is a push for a multiplayer experience. I think V and VD really pushed for an esport style online experience, and I'd like to see that recreated but with more support this time around.
So there is something that interests me with that spread explosion weapon on the quad leg. I think that is also the shield. When he goes to use the energy shield it looks the same as the weapon. Which could mean that we are getting shields that have multipurpose which would be great. It would allow us to utilize shields without having a large reduction to our damage output capabilities.
As an Armored Core fan since the PS1 Era and my entire childhood, an Open World Armored Core game would not be a bad idea at all. The world is vastly different in this one as the parts seem to be a blend of ALL the armored core games. I'm talking an updated Armored Core 3 gen Core, Primal Armor from Armored Core 4, and weapon's system from Armored Core V. This is looking like it may have the most depth. As for the core's cannons, those are supposed to be anti-missile systems. AMS is what they called it, they always had a function in the PS2 era, but in Armored Core 4 and For Answer there were cores that had it but were purely cosmetic and did nothing at all. Then you see the core's energy emission, which seems to be Assault Armor, It seems like the main counter to Primal Armor for real damage might be Assault Armor. Or perhaps an EMP Pulse. There's another thing. You mentioned the weapon swapping system. Yes. They clearly have it. But you missed a detail. The left weapon system slot isn't moving to his left hand. It's engaging. It's opening. It's a missile launcher. It's back mounted. We are getting BOTH. I think the preference however would be pseudo open world. In that it's large areas with multiple missions able to be accepted on the fly, which gives more room for exploration, hidden parts, side bosses/mini bosses/optional bosses, and proper Co-op. Something along the lines of Destiny's planets, and how you can casually walk into the raids from the planets with a group of friends back during the Destiny 1 days. Something where it feels a little larger, a little more open, but where it isnt WHOLLY open world would feel just right for armored core. It gives you that feeling of really being in a mech. If I had to say, all the previous armored core titles aside from 5 and Verdict day did a horrible job of making you feel your size, you really didn't feel it save for a few missions in 4, and 0 missions in ACFA, as in ACFA the only times you had large maps was when you used the VOB... And those maps were purely dead save for the arms forts. It made me long for a properly large map with actual reason to explore and enjoy them. The maps can't just be a place to house your objectives and minor side objectives and a hidden part or two. The old armored core formula will not work in this modern day era. There's a reason the games never took off and it needs a reimagining of the formula. I can understand greivances with open world, but pseudo-open world, via Large maps with significant verticality and lots of options to approach main objectives or even 3 different missions you can do in real time with friends seems like the optimal way of doing it. We can't go back to our Customization Screen simulators with 7-10 minute missions and 15 minute loadout adjustments. That isn't what fromsoft has been aiming at. They tried making the games more about mission length and making them 15-40 minute length missions, they tried increasing the cooperative element, they tried making more options for whether you wanted versatility or sheer power or sheer defense, they tried a lot and it wasn't working. But a return to the niche form of ac1 through ACFA will not work in modern day. It'll kill the game on arrival. People aren't looking for old armored core. They're looking for the perfect blend. Spending however much time you WANT to spend in their maps, solo or coop, with exploration you can choose to engage in if you so choose, or be guided along the rails of your chosen main objective/mission, and deciding whether a sortie will be either 20 minutes or an hour + of fun with your friends would be the perfect way to handle Armored Core these days.
Oh snap! I just had a realization. What if they employ souls like invasions into this game. So like you are trying to complete a mission and some other player can invade and try and clap you. Not certain the how the mechanics of this would work if this isn’t an open world game but man that would add another layer of brutality and be really freaking sweet.
@@CertifiedBullpupHater I think it could work if players took over the enemy AC in missions. I'd like to see a 2 player co OP experience and maybe if you dont play online you get to program a custom ac you make to help you out and a list of pilots in the game if the player doesnt want to dive into programming a mech.
To be fair, as much as we can speculate and consider what we do or do not want, at the end of the day all we can do is put our faith in FromSoft and play the game that they give us. Then we can decide if they made good or bad decisions. And considering their track record the last 5-8 years.. id say we are in good hands
By the way, the setting for AC6 has been explained in the game's Steam page
Story Overview
A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3.
So it's actually still inside same universe as the AC5 or AC4 ...
@@artyomgunard4491 who knows? Since the only exact clue is the kojima particle/primal armor/assault armor-like tech that is shown in the trailer
So the leaks where true.... is this substance still called melange ?probably not
And also we already had/have kojima particles doing its fuckery now we'll have even more paratechnology magic fuckery
To me this seems like quite interesting evolution of the stories previouse AC games have told.
@@Bernkastel1983 more like a reboot of AC 2 tbh, but instead of Mars its another different planet and with a sprinkle of AC4-ACV elements
It looks like they are next units because they still appear to have a KP shield
Being allowed to carry 4 arm weapons is pretty good for the one like me who like dual wielding machine guns to oblivion in the 4 games
That would be the best of both worlds
Hangar weapons, but actually physically stored on the mech. Nice.
It looks like they are appealing to the fanbase by blending the 3rd and 4th gen games, both artstyle and mechanics, which is amazing
@@Azure9577 I really do love that, ngl. I hope we get super boss cameos from all the cool NPCs that made an impact to the stories.
Your comment about the cannons on the chests of 3rd gen ACs is surprising. Thats the missile interception system, it serves a purpose.
Yeah and both ACs in this trailer have some form of them. Which I'm very happy to see. That means missiles will be back thank the lord
@@bombomos yeah the one on these new acs seem to be lazer based or it could just be a camera
That trailer was so fire. I never knew thr mech genre was so Sim focused. Downloading AC on my Vita right now to check it out.
Good luck with the controls. Hopfully they let you remind to the right stick
I'm glad that Miyazaki was quick to point out in the interview that AC6 won't be a SOULS game, but I've seen some TH-camrs immediately say: "Oh, so its going to be like Seikiro then?"
Again, I'm hopeful more people are open-minded & give it a try, but I'm very, very worried that they will be disappointed & even give negative feedback just because they *assumed* this would play like Souls/Seikiro just because its FromSoft.
God, I hope you're right.
I've been getting into Armored Core lately since I've had a mech-shaped hole in my heart ever since MechWarrior fell into rights hell and then apparently came back with a lackluster game, so it's fucking awesome that there's a new one coming.
Man wants:
AC3,4 Combat
AC3SL Music
ACLR Design
AC2 Sci-Fi/Fantasy balance
AC1's Gritty Atmosphere
Man doesn't want:
Every aspect of AC5
glad to see your first look/take! our wait is finally over...
I've been waiting since I was 12, now going to be 23 in 3 months; I will assure you I WILL be buying this on day 1.
The AC model look like combination between gen 3 and gen 5
BTW cannon in the chest in previous game is actually anti missile, it active automaticly when missile approaching your AC
It also has Gen 4 references with the primal armor.
@@DarkstarArchangel yup true
Gen 3 and gen 4 you meant lol
I take the first few bits as just worldbuilding stuff. I heard someone say recently that we are one solar flare away from everything coming to an end. I can’t help but think that might be exactly what we are seeing in the opening. Some kind of freak catastrophe that brings the world to its knees and now all there is left to do is fight over the few remaining resources. All that remains are ashes, but we’re still lighting them on fire. That sounds perfectly Armored Core to me. Super excited for more people to get introduced to this franchise.
Looks like they got thrust into a new ice age as well
Cause it’ll damage electronics not destroy the planet like a nuclear war or massive astroid.
This seems like ac 6 will also take the 24 hours element of last raven
4:21 Note back in the trailer here where the quad leg AC clearly has a cannon/grenade launcher and a missile rack 2:54. This likely means that the primary weapon swap mechanic from ACV is now itself a back unit that's optional, for those who want to run two primaries for one arm over a radar/grenade launcher/cannon/chaingun etc.
I forgot to mention the best part! It's coming out on PC! I wont need to buy a ps5 :)
I just hope it doesn't have the same shader compilation problems Elden Ring has.
But, I guess, we’ll see.
holy shit, miyazaki's great and all but sekiro is easily their best
@@thingofportalsIn a recent interview they said they have made no conscious effort to make it similar to souls (or something similar to that)

You my firend are a real lover of Amored Core and i hope really , not for my sake , but for yours that you will get the best AC game we ever had.
I just about cried when they revealed it, I'm so happy!
In my opinion, if it were open world or open "zones" it'd be better to attract more players
I know most fans won't agree and honestly kinda have mixed feelings about it, but it'd be cool to be able to use the AC units outside missions or to have some kind of lobby that isn't just menus
"Out of Place for the AC universe" (I know what You mean, just funny)
*Flame Fly awkwardly out of energy's off the stage*
People keep saying it's a solar flare but on the steam page it says this event is happening because of this resource they where gathering.
4:40 the left side look just like an open of missile pod. Maybe we can use both the hangar and back weapons at the same time.
Looks like the head, torso, and legs of the dual-grenade arms quad from Silent Line.
You are now a Raven!
10 fucking yearsssssss
@Siberian agree, just a few good ones in AC5 -VD for me though unlike the others.
I'm hoping the OST is awesome as well
Never get any use out of the guns in the chest piece? Yes you did.
Those were the cores with built-in missile defense. The gun fires at incoming missiles. Granted, it wasn't great missile defense but it helped a bit.
I'm thinking they're going to either have a dedicated back slot and a dedicated second arm weapon slot, or you get to pick and choose. The quad leg CLEARLY had a back mounted cannon and the biped had wat looked to be a missile launcher.
So two things I have noticed
First: in 4:47 i think that's the animation that you ac will do when changing to scan mode (if they keep it)
Second: in one scene of the trailer where you can see a turret shoot with for miniguns, you can see two mechs walking and those might be normals
And to end this comment, i they make the ai design better the normal enemies
3:48 these gun looking barrel on crest models must be the anti missiles system using lazer which are exclusive on crest’s cores
3:39 Some kind of EMP Assault Armor? I doubt it actually is connected to the Primal Armor like shield we see earlier, but you never know.
It's Mission Based thankfully, But AC6 has a INSANE potential for a TON of Choice based outcomes in the game, I personally want Nineball and other old ACs back as Optional Bosses, Not Arena fights, But via towards certain Endings or Post Game Content.
I think the best idea for a dlc would be a collection of the best missions through ac history with popular parts and Reskins.
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 just like they did with Nexus, a remaster of some of the best missions in the whole AC series is a good idea especially for new players who missed out.
You should know that in earlier Armored core series, those cannons were functional anti-missle defense that would shoot down missiles.
According to the story, that 'Solar Flare' is the element called "Rubicon".
@@DarkstarArchangel Rubicon 3 is the name of the planet. We don't know what the substance is called yet.
@@HALberdier17 the earlier leaks from way before the trailer called it "Melange". so it must be some sort of miracle mix, that is also super fickle/volatile as it seems to have blown up the whole damn solar system before
great vid man, looking forward to your gameplay wishlist.
Looks really cool, i definitely want to give it a try, i remember have fun with you on the AC games we played on the 360
Hopfully theres co OP of some sort
3:45 first thought was Assault Armor. It destroys your primal armor by using it to trigger an energy shockwave.
ya now that someone said that its 100% some sort of assault armor. idk why i thought it was more of a generic laser beam after watching it 10 times.
Yeah, if they bring back Primal Armor, then Assault Armor needs to come back too.
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 Exceed Orbits would still be nice to see again :)
3:40 is assault armour.
The Cannons in older AC Core where AMS.
I had to straight up call out of work because I was too excited to sleep.
Same here 😂
In the same shot as the weapon swap it looks like he has a back weapon missile launcher.
I'd be down for ac3/sl. I'm also happy with them (by the looks of it) returning to gen 4
Honestly I don't mind it being open world at all.
Walk to the garage, fast travel with a rocket like in 4 etc.
More lively experience.
u got a plug from vaati regarding ur overview series, congrats man!! =D
Ya I was extremely surprised lol
Fingers crossed for AC 4 combat style
Primal armor is fucking BACK bois
YES we're getting NEXT back that's my favorite AC
I literally became a Photonics Engineer because of this game series im so fking excited to see armored core back!!!
Playing since 97' PS1 AC...but SOOOO glad AC is back!....the cannons out of the Core's Chest are the Anti-Missle Laser system...
Also: 3:40 kinda reminds me of Assault Armor lowkey.
@@Sabbathfaax or it could also be core function like overbooster/extra orbit from 3~last raven. But instead of replacing OB, it could be an option between extra orbit or assault armor.
The scavenging opening suggests if the game is not an open world at least it will be a semi open world like sekiro and souls
Let's be real, the game would fail horribly if it has the mission based progression like previous games, gamers would expect so much more from a fromsoft game nowadays
Also rumor says the game is directed by the director of sekiro, also steam page says the game would focus more on close range combat. Even a mechsouls sounds bad but I secretly hope a energy shield(posture) + melee combat system would be much more engaging than two teams of quad feet sniping at each other across the map
Overall I think ac6 would have much more on single player content than acv and ac4, so I am definitely hopeful towards a (semi) open world setting, especially imagine the freedom when you could fly
I think missions would be just fine seeing how you need to reload and repair your AC. Being mission based isnt bad it's just how good do you make the missions. Open world isnt a thing of the future. The more open world games get the less impressive content they can be packed with
@@aboveaveragegaming6120 I'm fine with a mission based game as well personally but ac6 would be a (heck) lot of souls players first entry to ac games, fromsoft themselves know better than anyone people would come to this game with certain expectation like exploration and tons of single player content(cough acv cough)
Also the mysterious substance definitely gives me a souls lore vibe
Anyway, the future is bright for ac youtube channels and I'm looking forward to what the game could bring to us!
I just got into the series 5 days ago and then BOOM! a trailer for a sequal , what a nice supprise.
Definitely a day 1 purchase for me, I’ve been waiting too long for a new AC. I hope we get a release date sooner than later
Now that I think about it, I don’t ever remember even seeing an ad for AC V or Verdict day back in the day
I hope they don't pander too much to the Souls crowd.
I seriously don't want open-world, personally I am cautiously optimistic.
To be fair shields kinda got worse over time and with the introduction of dual wielding they were kinda abandoned
Man, I was part of the coredump community when AC2 first came out. Stopped playing when AC4 came out; it was that bad. I’ve been waiting for this since before AC4 came out. This is the first time a trailer gave me tears of joy. I really hope they get this one right
I think everyone's wrong about the cannon and timeline.
I learned it because if you go to the extension parts (shoulder armaments) and go the the Anti missile, They have the vs MG values
youre 100% correct. for some reason my brain never made the connection that the giant cannons sticking out of the cores where anti missile systems.
A huge fan of vehicle simulators here. Now that Armored Core's making a comeback, all we need is another MechWarrior.
I think if its open world is a good thing because new fans can enjoys much easier than before
Verdict Day was super mid for me going to revisit it but overall I'm hoping for a solid mix of the freedom of 4 & 4A with more methodical mechanics
At 4:45 you can see on the left side of the mech it’s second back weapon opens up to show what appears to be missile pods
Oh snap! I just had a realization. What if they employ souls like invasions into this game. So like you are trying to complete a mission and some other player can invade and try and clap you.
Not certain the how the mechanics of this would work if this isn’t an open world game but man that would add another layer of brutality and be really freaking sweet.
This feature could also be used to hire other player ACs to aid you. Which would be awesome
