    The sounds were played by speakers as to give the feeling of having spectators.
    No one was actually cheering.

      @Samantha Crowther Yes, in Austria it was possible to download an app, virtually position ourselves along the track and make the sounds from the phone, they then played it through speakers. :)

      In the same exact competition 3-4 numbers after Cochran-Siegle, Urs Kryenbuehl had a terrible fall at the final jump to the finish line, where they have speeds mid air of about 145-150km/h, was conscious but definitely injured, back/neck took all the impact
      I ski myself, not anywhere near these guys level, but, falls on ice hurt, a lot, even if they seem okay, ice is painful to fall on

      @@williammann9477 it was a filthy fall, catching air under/over the ski while in a jump is extremely dangerous, there have been skiers in induced comas after such incidents, and Streif is a challenging run, I’ve been there myself, it’s hard to stay on the skis there, let alone in the conditions they do it with extra water poured over for a faster and more icy slope so the ski edges even hold on, you need GS grade skis there at least as well, going down in slalom skis is suicidal, GS/DH only :P

    Cochran-Siegle, who was having a breakthrough season and won his first World Cup race at a super-G in December, planned to travel back to the United States for further medical examinations this week.
    “Everything that I’ve seen so far and from what I’ve heard from the doctors is that it’s stable. There is still more information to be gathered but, all in all, I think it’s OK,” Cochran-Siegle said.
    “Most of my body is fine, it’s just my neck,” said the American, adding he was “really not in pain” but had “just a slight discomfort” in his neck.
    Cochran-Siegle sustained the minor neck fracture in a high-speed crash on the Streif, one of the most dangerous courses on the circuit.
    He lost balance when he leaned back while landing a jump, slid off course and cut his way through the first row of safety nets. He was taken to hospital by helicopter.

      Anybody who skis knows enough to be terrified by how chattery and unstable his turns are at that speed. It's what anybody else sounds like right before they totally lose control. Like you said, bare edge of control with razor sharp edges and locked bindings on a pre-flooded "race ice" surface. Because that's how you set speed records.

      When someone is unconscious you don't wanna touch him until someone expert in spinal trauma arrives, if they have a spinal fracture and you move them carelessly you could sever the nerves leaving them paralized. Not having much to do they did well in removing the skiis since they're basically blades lying around after a 145 km/h jump... and sometimes it can happen that the next skier is already on the course (when the race is short on time) so if they don't get stopped and were to fall on them, they could seriously die from bleedout

    • @raffaeledivora9517
      @raffaeledivora9517 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm not mistaken long ago a skier died in Wengen because of blood loss just before the finish. He fell and his skiis severed a couple of major arteries, 30 seconds and there was nothing to do (well, you may argue there was nothing to do from the start, since it's unlikely that kind of trauma can be recomposed in such a short time)

    Who's the sad bastards cheering in the back ground as he's trying to recover from the catch fence - twats. Ryan's leg muscles would have been burning like hell at that point in the race & it's too easy to have such an incident. Get well soon & hope to see you racing in the very near future!

    • @AntonGudenus
      @AntonGudenus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Due to corona virus restrictions there was no audience allowed. So the cheering, cowbells and horns were all, so to say, "canned" and coming from loudspeakers, because quite a few racers told the media and organisers that they would not like a completely silent race.
      So it just took some time between his crash and someone reaching the pause button on the PA. So fortunately there were no "sad bastards" around, just a small delay.

      The sound effects are a lot less fake than you'd think. They are generated (with a few seconds delay; which also explains the too long cheering after the crash) through a virtual audience participation system.
      Basically you can download an app and vote on the cheer intensity and kind.
