This course is raced on for over 50 years on wooden skis and snow first. Now material is high tech and piste is solid ice, moreover they build in extra bumps and jumps. Are they waiting for racers to be killed? It takes too long for response to arrive, in every dangerous part should be someone stationed to help immediately. Shame on FIS Alpine.
The Problem its only the Women's has normal more time to switch the sides. In this Curse she need in Air flip the Side and thats not a normal thing in Women's race. In Men's races its this normal, but not in the Women's race.
Fully agreed, like in other sports nowadays, it’s just about media coverage and money. There is no reason for a course which creates 130km/h top speeds. Completely nuts.
Many of them passed it without problem. As a skier, its your responsibility to maintaine the required speed. If you wanna go +130 km/h over a sharp turn, can't expect a differenet outcome.
The problem with the turns that most fell on is that there is no room to bail out, if one doesn't take the correct line they are into the fencing. Obviously, they need to use the topography of the mountain but perhaps those turns could have been made less severe. Fortunately, Isabella Wright appears to be okay as she was at the finish area later in the event. I don't know about any of the others, though.
The race corse is too fast and dangerous especially on the high speed turn from almost strait ahead with a large high speed sweeping turn to the left which is almost impossible to make without having an accident.
Okay this hill is just dangerous. One person crashes, fine. But when this many people are crashing, something is wrong with the hill. How irresponsible to put that many athletes in danger like that.

The course setter brought this on. The groomer also dug several gullies immediately after off-camber jumps which took out racer after racer sending them into the fences and certain injury. Whoever set that course should have their credentials pulled.
I worked on a big mountain during a FIS event. I was shocked, they water down (ICE) the course just before the race. I skied a professional course once. It is nuts- super steep, off-camber and pure ice. It was not fun and I went as slow as possible. I could not imagine going all out. The risk of major injury is too high.
I am afraid the alpine ski competition is approaching the end of its celebration : lack of snow, fake snow, materials etc. So sad. Compared to the old races, when the akiers were going down between the watchers.
I think the combination of very high speeds and many elevations in the course which caused the skiers to jump even if they didnt really intended to were the main problem. The course setting didnt intended this as well with flat landings or turns directly after those parts, leaving no space for error and making it more dangerous than it should be.
This course design forced the women into more air and more unbalanced air than they could handle. Seemed like a men's course. Also, the turn came immediately after the landing zone.
No Men's drives all times in course like that. But in Women's course are not normal air jumps and a corner. So that they need switch a side in the Air. But meny Girls havent a Problem with this course and forget not they are Pros. So meny from the Girls was surprise that you comes with a high speed to a air switch corner.

Unconscionably set/laid out course. A deliberate killing field. And yes, I fully know the slope has been around for ages, DUH! It's HOW you set the course. This was a crime. Set a course to be challenging AND pragmatically "safe", not some death trap.
This slope would be difficult even for men. And what for the god's sake is doing that man at 4:02 right next to the course? If she lost balance she could have smashed herself of him. This is crazy.
As an ex-downhiller, the course is not too dangerous. Most crashes were caused by pilot error, either failing to properly absorb jumps, or taking risks with a too-direct/tight line. With regards to the setting a DH course, you have to make compromises. You have to set the gates in a way that swings the racers back and forth across the fall line to control what would otherwise be F1-like speeds. But downhill races take place in the mountains where there are trees, rocks and natural obstacles a racer could hit if they didn't put A and B nets along the sides of the course to stop them, and sometimes it's impossible to put that protection far enough away from the race line.
The simple fact that the falls occurred all over the course says it’s not a specific course setting issue. It is a tough course with more jumps than the women usually deal with, but none of them were particularly large jumps. All these people pontificating have obviously never put a pair of 220 DH boards on.
yeah ok dude. this course will go down in history as being so dangerous that it changed the career of the greatest skier of all time. but what does she know about skiing???? the great "ex-downhiller," @nikht0, says that it was HER fault. It was "pilot error."
good point, except that looking at the spot where most of them fell, it was just after a ridge where the approach was like a launch pad instead of a neutral entry like the Mausfalle in Kitz, and then the little ridge in the middle of the turn after the jump that becomes a compressions made the turn like a shuffle board..Some of it might have been due to lack of practice, perhaps, but the course should have been adjusted... when you have 12 of the best skiers fall, that's a statistical anomaly that's hard to ignore...but as you said, it may just be pilot error, and possibly too much speed...
@@cormorant_on_arock7934 whoa easy there cowboy, you sound triggered. But yeah, the greats can make mistakes and crash too. Shiffrin F'ed up.
