I'm 38 and currently have been in the professional workforce for a while as a Project Manager. My father was a Naval Pilot and my Grandfather was a Naval pilot. I'm finally ready to make the change and finish out my years as a pilot. I consulted Thrust and wanted to hear more about the proper way of doing this with the best use of my budget. Hoping to hear back soon.

I’m broke, but I joined a flight club and work ubereats to fly weekly for my PPL. Once I’m done I plan to get a loan to go ATP.

Can you not go direct to ATP? I Know it's more expensive but it's faster
Do NOT go to ATP! You will regret it! Please do A LOT of homework, ATP is HORRIBLE. I was going to go there to as my first option and QUICKLY realized it would be the worst mistake!

I'm considering building an ultralight biplane, with push pull prop engines and full trim controls for redundancy, to get my solo hours. Then I'd only have to pay an instructor for half of the required hours, and I'd have a very cool toy. Maybe I could log as many hours as would be accepted with that type of aircraft and then sell it to help pay for the rest of the education.

@@chris41700 It was great. Glass avionics. Great instructors. Planes always available which allowed me to fly after work a few times a week. I highly recommend.

@@chris41700 I think Nathan said $12-$15k which is about right. The thing is that you don't want a school with old, or unavailable planes. It won't save you time or money in the long run.

Never put a significant down payment on training. Many times, when a flight school suggests, or even worst, pushes this, it's because they have a cash flow problem. I had a well known flight school in Columbus take $5000 for training from my girlfriend for light sport training, only to find out that the only light sport aircraft they had (Flight Design CTLS) was down for repairs. Significant repairs that required sending the plane to Connecticut because it required fiberglass work that was beyond what the flight school could do. They wanted me to learn in a C 182! I had no desire to fly those types of planes and requested our money back. Nope. I waited three and a half months to get my first lesson. YMMV.

I’m broke too lmao, I’m trying to build my own credit score to take out a loan because they don’t want to co-sign and also there kicking me out so I’m after 3 semesters of college so I’m kinda in a tough position, military really isn’t what I want to do so I’m going to half to grind it out some way some how until I’m accepted for a Lon to a flight school.
Is Thrust federally accredited? I would like to use a Parent Plus loan.

I am trying to change careers and become a pilot. I could only find two small $ scholarships that were not exclusively for high school or current college students. Are there any scholarships open to people in their mid to late twenties and not just college kids?

I’m currently enlisted how can I use my TA to pay for flight training?
If you are Active Army I can help a bit on info. You may have to be at your duty station for a year. I'm not sure, but you will be able to use something called CA or Credentialing Assistance. You will have to go to your education center and attend a briefing to use CA. Which they will help you sign up. The CA will only pay for 1000 per fiscal year but if you do it right you can double dip meaning you can get 2000. That's only if you time the fiscal year right when it's about to change to the next year. Hope that helps.
ATP… 65K minimum… find a school attached to a college. The price will be much less, and they have better contacts with airlines. Like Auburn in Alabama.

QUESTION: If I goto flight school/training overseas to save money will my training still be accepted by US carriers?...Or, is the flight training considered not legitimate or not at the same standard as US flight schools?
I'm not too sure about how they train overseas but if they have schools that are under the FAR 61 or 141 it should translate over easily. I do know that overseas the requirements for jobs are a bit looser than in the states. I would see what kind of training standard the school you're looking into has and if it complies with either the ACS (Airmen Certification Standard) or the FAR (Federal Aviation Regulation.) (I'm also just a student so take this with a grain of salt.)
For the Army it's called Credential Assistance (CA) and can be applied for on Army Ingited (cool), however, they just screwed everyone over this past fiscal year and reduced the amount for Aviation Credentials to only $1000/yr vs $4000.

What if you're just turning the legal age?
Keep an eye out for scholarships! Most scholarships are good for at least a couple of years, so you can collect and wait until you're ready to start!
