It would be nice if the ground slam gave you contested health back, that is my biggest problem with assault, most of your attacks do not give you contested health, just the actual hammer hits and the pistol direct damage.
Now that's a pretty useful thing. If only saber would fix the damn aftershock. It worked before but groundslam was broken: sometimes character refused to do the second one. Now it's reversed: groundslam always triggers but aftershock sometimes doesn't want to hit second time no matter how charged it is.
Have you consider the fact that you didn’t perk it? There’s a perk for double aftershock, bottom row before 20% damage against minoris. OR, did you mix up beyween ground slam and aftershock, aftershock is standing charge melee, groundslam is charge melee after a light melee/pommel strike. To double ground slam, you need to let go and re-hold the melee to do another ground slam after the first. The only problem before that i see is that there’s 1 ground slam after pommel smash (sprint/evade melee), now i can do double ground slam after pommel smash. The thunder hammer is my top burst melee weapon.

Ground slam before the fix demanded very precise timing for the second hit (and even then it wasn't working 100% of the time), but now you can hold it at any given moment and you will have your second hit without any problems.

True, ground slams are now easier to execute than ever and i love it. I remember that the second aftershock go right after the first, no button needed, i guess you meant to say the second aftershock could not be achieve constantly due to combat pace? I know i too since Every time i try to double aftershock (no full charge), i have to cancel away to parry incoming attack. The only time i can pull it off is against swarm of minoris, or stunned majoris.
the rare few times i could use a full double ground slam and full charged jump pack slam, together with auspex scan, we took down the hive tyrant in less than about 3-4 min. if left me astounded.

Do you use the fencing version of the hammer? I’ve found for all the melee weapons I prefer the fencing variants.
Fencing is my preferred version as well.
btw.. for the pistol.. now that we have played with the neo volkite pistol for 3 weeks... is it better or not then the heavy bolt pistol for assault?
If your other teammates aren’t on classes to kill terminus I’d say run neo. Heavy pistol does more damage which get back more contested health

Yes take double ground pound and extra aftershock swing.
