SO AGREE! Space Marine 2 has so many things lore accurate but with that subtlety that requires someone already "in" to notice, Rogue Trader IS the place to start! Also #TEAMARGENTA!
This is an excellent overview of Rogue Trader. It's arguably the best 40K game in years because it actually presents a big slice of the 40K universe rather than just focusing on space marines. The Void Shadows DLC is excellent too and well worth getting.
The focus on non space Marines is definitely one of my favorite parts of the game. I love Space Marines but it's a breath of fresh air playing as a somewhat ordinary human.
Excellent video. Not to sound weird but you have a calming voice that adds to the polish of it that I could listen to all day, lol. Hope you continue to do more videos. Subscribed.
It truly is Owlcats did a great job of combining awe inspiring expositions with drip feeding wh40k lore, most of which is made with amazing writing worthy of best 40k books
Especially in some of the voice acted sections. I get excited whenever Heinrix has a section of voice dialogue. The writing and voice acting is fantastic, except for Idira lol. She goes a little overboard sometimes.
Before I watch the rest of the video and leave a more proper comment, I just wanna say the audio seems to only occur in the left side of my headphones. Through taking a cursory glance at the comments I haven't noticed anyone else mention it, but all other audio seems to work fine for me. I'd recommend fixing this, as regardless of the quality of the video this sort of thing can put a lot of people off and your views will _definitely_ tank. EDIT: bideo gud :D Okay, jokes aside, it's a decent review and definitely better than... Some... that I've seen. It's respectful and thoughtful, but maybe a little too dry. Occasionally stopping the script to focus on an example of what you're saying would allow the audience to mentally take a break while enjoying a sliver of the wealth and opulence of experiences the game has to offer. For instance, the music section has footage of the Astropathic Chapel in the background. That seems more than reasonable for those who played, but the newcomers? They don't have a clue. Pause for a while and let them listen to the absolute _banger_ that is the ambient music of the Astropathic Choir. Take a moment to interrupt Weisz to showcase how talking to him stops the organ music, leaving the rest of the Choir to continue their litanies acapella. The sheer abundance and quality of the set dressing has improved my opinion of Astropaths from "lame but necessary" to "by the Throne I need to make an Astropath OC".
Warhammer 40k is one of those things that you look at one thing on a wiki and end up staying awake until 4am learning about the 13th black crusade and the invasion of Macragge and the key players involved in each conflict.
Patch 1.3 is now out enormous update once again . Don't think Owlcat Games staff get out much lol. Brilliant breakdown and review been on the fence . For new people there are a tone of amazing award winning books :)
HEADSUP for AUDIO FIX: if youre on windows and watching this, quick fix is windows key, search MONO then turn on mono audio and its in both ears again. Hope that helps. Makes the video a lot easier to listen to lol
I'm on my second playthrough right now and I agree with basically everything you say here. Imho, gameplay wise its better than BG 3, the combat is way more fun here
Ah, but using Eldar weapons isn't heresy for you, as a Rogue Trader. You have a big lisence to decide what to do whatever stuff you find, regardless of what the Lex Imperialis says. If you find a Xenos gun that you like the look of, it's your right and responsibility to wield it in the name of the Emperor.
Rogue trader is 40k enough, and doesn't require a small loan to build and play. I love the 40k universe, and its lore... I dislike games workshop's absolutely predatory pricing on their figures. RT is like a crash course in 40k, and Owlcat did a great job translating it to a CRPG :)
Hopefully WH40K RT turns into a franchise and we'll get sequels. SM2, DOW are great WH40k games but none are as immersive as RT and its probably the best WH40k game. Hell, you can get a glimpse of being a heretic and there's a lot of exposure to other xenos factions. Plus i'm sick of only seeing Space Marines, daddy's poster bois who get carried by plot armor.
@Riri_734 I agree! That would be fantastic, and even if it's not Rogue Trader specific, more games from Owlcat delving into the more common folk of 40k would be amazing. It's such a big universe and there is so many directions they can go outside of Space Marines with lore.
It’s a fun game, but it is not the perfect introduction. Because there’s so much that’s not voice acted or otherwise there’s literally sections where you walk into and then you have to read a little passage that describes what happened. Come on now.
@kylerobison1425 I would argue that is exactly why it's a great introduction into 40k. It doesn't matter if it's voice acted or if you have to read the dialogue, it's still dense with lore that is contextual to the players situation which helps people learn about 40k. Much of 40ks lore is from books, so I don't see having to read as a negative. Plus having dialogue such as "so and so walks into the room" is incredibly common in games adopted from ttrpgs, which Rogue Trader is. I don't think that detracts anything from the game or the lore of 40k. Many CRPGs do this.
Thanks for a nice review!
My left ear really liked this.
Great video! Rogue Trader is a ton of fun and it was a blast to watch you stream it. RIP the late Commander Banana Sandwich.
Banana Sandwhich will live on in our hearts!
Just bought it yesterday. I hope this studio does next a rpg in the fantasy Warhammer universe

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and my voice! I do plan on continuing to make videos and should have a new one out very soon!
It's always small enthusiastic youtubers gives the best content. Love the video. Great game, good review.

I wish there were more 40k games where you played as the xeno races.
maybe next dlc like pathfinder we can play another race and adeptus machine

For some reason I have no audio, and I don't know why.
Works fine for me 🤷🏻♂️
I have only left side audio.
@@Kevlord22 same for me. I will listen to it later on speaker is all.
Fantastic game no arguments here.
is it suppose to be audio only from one side?
I don't think I intended for it to be on one side but thanks for letting me know! Looks like I have some audio settings to fix on my mic.
Yeah, seems like it's only the left channel recording
I'm on my second playthrough right now and I agree with basically everything you say here. Imho, gameplay wise its better than BG 3, the combat is way more fun here
The combat is definitely a blast and the amount of build variety there is makes me want to start a third playthrough.
Well, now I've got to buy it... Dammit! 😂
This game is incredible. And got me way too deep into 40K

I am going though a second time but I cheated so I can get power armor.
This video make me experience what its like being deaf on one ear and i don't like it.
Sameeee

my first 40k game is necromunda but I just once played because worst game
It's TTS, obviously.
My voice is TTS?
@saoirsecore you don't know about tts?
@@bettertobethoughtafool Only ever heard of TTS in reference to Text To Speech before.
@@saoirsecore yes. I'm speaking of the TTS warhammer series.
@saoirsecore "if the emperor had a text to speech device"
