      I've been driving a 1993 Ford Ranger that I bought for $1000 for almost five years now and it costs me maybe a thousand dollars a year to keep it on the road...so...not much if you're mechanically inclined and can do oil changes and repairs and whatnot yourself.

    • @rickybobby7276
      @rickybobby7276 ปีที่แล้ว

      Minimum of every three months you will be making repairs. Probably $100 per month minimum in addition to regular maintenance for an older car. And this guy and girl sound like idiots when it comes to cars so they are going to be taken for a ride at the mechanic. The extra cost in parts and labor that you wont have for a newer car isn't really the problem though. It's the car breaking down and you and going to the shop all the time missing work and spending your weekends that is the problem. If you can afford it it's honestly not worth the trouble. Only what I see it working is if you've owned the car and maintained it well and the private sale amount is $5,000, but you just aren't going to find something like that unless if you are a dealer and spend all day looking at cars to buy in which case you're really adding value to the car and after your time and experience it's not really $5,000 anymore which is why the dealers always resell a car for so much more.
      And even if you want to do repairs yourself and learn you need a garage (these folks rent) and tools. A $5,000 car makes zero sense for them. If they make 90k they can afford something that doesn't break down every other month and building up credit card debt to make repairs.

    There was a small period that the KIA EV6 was selling for $20k ABOVE STICKER!!!. This was the same time a Tesla Model Y was selling for $68K... TWO YEARS LATER... TESLA has lowered their price to $45k, THAT IS A $23K deduction in price. This has created a large group of UNHAPPY Tesla owners, at the same time it is the reason why I purchased my Tesla Model Y for $45K (becomes $39K after taxes, fees and discounts in MA)

    It’s been my experience selling our used cars that people are not organized enough to buy a car without dealer financing. We tried to sell our honey odyssey minivan. We owned it and had paid cash. The dealer was willing to give us 11k. We couldn’t get anyone to buy it for that amount. We traded it in and I saw it listed for 17k two weeks later.

    I wrote a check for $6,500 for an '07 Chevy Silverado with 120,000 miles. Put another couple of grand into fixing the dumb little things wrong with it. Replaced ALL of the fluids, put 30,000 trouble free miles on it, and it runs like new. The interior is great, it's paid for and the insurance is about $85 per month. It's old but it serves it's purpose.
