@@Tifo Could you do a video about why Unai Emery tactics dont work away from home? Even at Sevilla he had a season were he didnt won a single game away from home.
It's really interesting to see Ajax are still playing this way today. The high, almost manic press, the fluidity of positions and drilled-in principle patterns of positional play in possession. I think it helps that in the Ajax academy kids learn this from a very young age so that when they are 17 or 18 and moved into the first team, they already know what is asked of them. That's how a De Ligt could start as a 17-year-old in the Europa League final and now as a 19-year-old is the team captain with three full seasons of experience as a starter in all competitions.
This video has a major flaw: the omission of JORGE GRIFFA, his first-ever mentor and most direct influence, who guided him in finding and forming homegrown players for the Newell's academy in the 1980s &1990s... He later exported that same model to Mexico, particularly with Atlas. It became the groundwork that rooted Lavolpe's 2006 national team.. Bilardo and Menotti were influences, of course, just like they are an influence to literally every Argentine manager in existence.
Greta video! I honestly think Bilardo was even more obsessive than Bielsa. I remember interviews with the players of Arg 1986 and even after they won the final vs Germany , Bilardo wasn't celebrating and was angry because they got two goals from set pieces when they spent a big part of their trainings on set pieces.
This Part 3 about Bielsa is really the crown jewel. We asked, you delivered. Thanks, THANKS a lot! And with this not only one understands the influence of Argentinian ( and other South/Latin American) football in the current European football panorama, but also the decisive influence of the 1970's total football approach of Holland/Ajax/Cruijff. Hey the Champions League final prepares to be a fight between total football grandchildren: Ajax and Barcelona. Again, THANKS and congratulations.
Bielsa is a synthesis and a evolution of these two traditions of Argentinian foootball, im more of a fan of El Flaco but the ruthlessness of Billardo is indeed necessary sometimes.
Luis Enrique first year at Barca was inspired by bilardo. The defense and midfield were workhorse/destroyers feeding balls to MSN and the rest was magic.
Videos like these will inspire children to take up football management as a profession in generations to come. Kudos! Can't stress enough how much I love these videos.
Can you do a tactical analysis of Sheffield United and their overlapping centre backs, as it is an intriguing way of playing, and will be interesting to see whether it can compete in the Premier League next season.
I'm loving this slew of Bielsa/ Leeds united videos. I hope they are an omen for lufc successfully navigating their way through the play offs back into the premier league
Great video. A full feature about Osvaldo Zubeldía would be nice too, he was hugely influential in his own right. A pioneer in tactical fouling, offside trap and usage of analytics in football. Also, have you considered making a video about Alexander Watson Hutton? A Scotsman, considered the "father of Argentine football", he founded the AFA and the Argentine league, which is the oldest outside of Britain (maybe the Dutch is older, I'm not sure).
@@Lions4322 He is considered a Genius since childhood. Bilardo on Menotti: "He's a rabanito (radish), he's only red on his outside". Because Menotti said he was left-wing, but won a World Cup under a right-wing military dictatorship.
The more I watch such videos the more I appreciate the game of football, and the more I realize that football is akin to chess, for both coach and player but more so the coach.
Superb content! We need more of this type of comentary in football: the ideas and principles that managers (and others) subscribe to, their influences and how they implement (or fail to implement) them on the pitch. Spare me another hour-long debate on a questionable refereeing decision, vaguely plausible big-money transfer or the merits of VAR.
Because his favorite way to play is to attack press and defend at incredible speed and intensity. It might be the perfect strategy for any given game but for a season it is usually too much work and exhausting unless you are incredibly fit. So is it any wonder the team of his that has faded least is Leeds United a team from a nation that when playing football has historically had more emphasis on physique and effort than the others, and that in Argentina his teams won championships but only in Argentina's strange new league format at the time of half sized seasons.
He NEVER coached a "big/top team", not even in Argentina. A top team can not afford to have such an extremely moral guy making the decisions; it would be just too risky for their interests.
Worth to mention that Bielsa performed poorly with Argentina's national team in 2002. If Sabella, a Bilardist, had won the 2014 World Cup, the debate within Argentina would be more closed.
@@strangesignal9757 That's a bit unjust. He smoked the opposition in the qualifier. Argentina's performance in 2002 was a fluke. If unlucky could have ever been used somewhere, this was it. Also, he lost a Copa America final as well. On the other hand, Bielsa's Olympic side might have been the best Olympic side of all time (they won it without letting in a goal, against teams that included Ronaldo and Pirlo). The debate would never have been closed had Sabella won it. That's simply ridiculous.
I think it’s sad that the managers who get the most credit, is the ones who has the biggest clubs. Guardiola is great but imo Bielsa is greater due to how much he has changed the game with his way of thinking

Hi Tifo Football, an Argentinian here, maybe not the most cultured one about this topic, but even though Bielsa is an admirable theoretical mind of football, I'd say that lacks in pragmatism and over theorizes a game that should be always simple but expand the capacity of decision of every player. There are some other Argentinian coaches much better IMO that deserves revisions, like Basile, Bianchi, Menotti, Pekerman, Sabela. However I admire Bielsa humility, he doesn't think that he is the best, he just want to manage a team in his way and I think is a good professional.
