    A chain for the frame + an Ulock for the wheel + an alarm is what I use on my ebike. I also take the battery out it’s 80 pounds so they won’t get far if they take it. Also has a tracker. I honestly think we should be able to shoot thieves on sight for all the precautions we have to take.

    Being able to stand makes a difference. In the field you’d be crouching on one knee, or sitting on the ground. And being attached to a frame it’s gonna jump around a lot more also. I have the same chain for my ebike (two years) and no one has even tried to defeat it yet. No lock is theft proof, but this one will put up the hardest fight.

      That's exactly what I was thinking, I've seen videos of people demonstrating how tough it is to cut through these Krypto locks. They always have it on a flat surface, with the chain in mid air it would be much harder to cut through.

    • @rowey1992
      @rowey1992 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The fact that the link requires 2 cuts means that most thieves will move onto the next bike. Too much noise & too much time. Your lock will never be "thief proof", it just has to be harder than the next one.

    Sadly, the one true defence I've found is having a bike nobody wants. My 1994 mountain bike survived 4.5 years of frequent use with just a £10 lock. The other side: young guys found it so worthless while chained-up they kicked it over in disgust. London is full of old steel-framed bikes - seems others have the same idea.

    Great video. There is very little anyone can do against a well-equipped and highly motivated thief. The best anyone can hope for is deterrence so that criminals move on to something that will be less hassle. Thankfully cutting through hardened metal with an angle grinder is really, really noisy, so that's a plus as well.

I’m fairly certain the police wouldn’t even show up (at least not in time) even if a call was made. Police would rather spend their time giving tickets to people for not having a light on their bike than responding to actual thefts.

    A little more pressure on the grinder to not kill off too much speed and a pair of vice grips (which any thief that has a portable grinder would have) to hold the link would have gotten through in about half that time. Either way, Any 3T manganese chain with 9mm links or greater are a excellent deterrent.

    It’s probably the strongest chain-and also the heaviest. People don’t want to get involved and maybe get hurt, so they will walk on by, pretending they didn’t see anything. In a high risk area, I have started using the Skunklock. With high-pressure, vomit-inducing gas that stays on the clothes and forms a cloud about ten feet in diameter, my guess is the thief would lose all interest in stealing the bike-or any bike until he quits vomiting and maybe changes his pants.

      A thief would be more practiced and expert having done it many times. I think this chain is probably the safest you can buy.
