      The city cops are the ones that don't care about minor traffic offenses, they have to much real crime to deal with.

    My great granddad worked at the Ulm Magirus Deutz works, where some of these engines where produced. Starting in the 1920s as an apprentice when it was highly manual engine building. After working in engine development in the 1930s he was in charge of the engine assembly line in the 1940s and early 1950s. He narrowly escaped being drafted for war, being killed by the nazis (for helping slave labourers, he secretly brought them to the family home where the wives and my grandmas cooked big meals and they ate until they were satiated), heavy bombardments, then being nearly shot on the spot by the americans (for being in charge of slave labourers, his workers saved him "no he good boss"). He was a deeply religious man (Protestant), christian values put him against the Nazi movement, yet he collaborated of course to continue his job at the plant. He was very driven, stern, a patriarch, conservative. He wrote letters to his misses, one of them describes a man "trying to sell him aluminum pistons out of his suitcase" - turns out this was Hermann Mahle, one of the founding members of that now giant international corporation.
    On the markings on the engine it should be possible to tell if it was made in Ulm or Köln. I don't know if they made the F12 in Ulm, they may have just made the smaller configurations.
    Seeing this world clash with.. well anything in this video is just a weird mix of feelings. Amazing build! Absolutely love the beast and the style. The mods on the engine is fantastic too. I'd love to do this, but a bureocratic nightmare in Europe with mods.

      This is an amazing story. We would be glad to talk with you more. Are you located in Germany?

    • @computername
      @computername 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DadyRat Oh hi. Unfortunately I don't know much more about his work at KHD / Magirus. It's more personal history, he died early with a sudden heart attack in the 1950s, leaving a wife and two daughters behind, so most of the technical detail around his job didn't get remembered. The personal info is well documented though, since the family home didn't get bombed most of the private notes, letters and ultimately my grandma and my great aunt survived to tell the story. I was born in 1985 so I'm a generation apart, but it's the personal interest in history and engineering that got me curious about him. It's also a fascinating personal story of transition into the industrial age, in Germany, industry isn't as old as in Britian. His mother still grew in a completely agricultural lifestyle, in the Swabian Jura, absolutely dire conditions from today's point of view, so he was at the start of a new era with industry and technology. Whilst he became the lead engineer they would still keep _one_ pig at the house in a stable, his old mother would split and cut the firewood shortly before her death in her 80s. They don't make people like this anymore lol. Like said, more family related.
      I live in the UK since 2015, was a car mechanic by trade, did a degree, now an automotive design engineer. Pretty proud to be in his footsteps.. at least a little bit. It's obviusly a bit sad what happened to the Magirus plant in Ulm (IVECO, end of the commercial truck manufacture etc.), even though I never got involved with the company the personal involvement of the family obviously creates awareness.
      There is an appreciation society in Ulm now with a little museum, even though mainly centred around the fire brigade aspect of the business there are a few bits and bobs from the days of lorry and engine manufacture. The engine line in plant 1 by the danube has been turned into flats. After all, Ulm was only a subsidiary for engine production from Deutz point of view.

    A DEUTZ in Pennsylvania, US (and then as a V12 - I´ve still even never known that DEUTZ built engines bigger than a V10 at all)...
    ...something, that a German living nearby Cologne - the homeland of DEUTZ - never would expect.
    Unbelievable...
    Btw: The *steering wheel" is the coolest steering I´ve seen for long time - that´s *g r e a t...*
    ...and is (also) something we in Germany just can *dream* about.
    And no way of hope to be allowed to drive a "Rat Rod" like this street-legal here ever at all.
    One example, of "the land of the free" comes true...
    *My congratulations on your successful vehicle construction!*
    Damned well done.

Different states have different rules, but I remember that PA. is fairly strict about having fenders, even on hot rods. Here in N.M. they could probably get away with driving a rolling chassis, as long as it has brakes! :-D

    I hope you are looking for a Alco diesel for your next project. The RS3 Alco has the finest sound on rails. Kind of like the way the Detroit stands out on the road.

    This engine is T3-930-xx from Tatra T815 (and Jamal, Terrn°). Deutz only upgrade dual twin turbo (Deutz dont share specs) from dual turbo (Tatra T3B). Only one thing is removed. Logo Tatra from cooling fan and valve cover.

    Coolest thing is almost nobody cares about these v12's anymore, when they're driven for too many hours in the machinery they're originally meant to be in, they are simply scrapped even if they have a lot of fun to offer.

      @@tcmtech7515 I meant that last line in a positive way lol as long as we stay away from P olitics - the algo seems to work again. I divorced P olitics in my searches about 2 months ago & I'm getting bombarded with ratrod, drag racing, comedy, gemstone cutting vids, ect here in the past month. Like youtube used to do (pre-SJW). I think the P subject short circuits the algo to " SJW Mode" on our accounts lolol

      This engine was a standard fit in many European machines, anyone could buy one, military stuff tends to be a bit more exclusive. Military stuff is also non emission compliant and built for maximum power with no care about engine life, GM 2 strokes I play with make around twice the power in 'Mil spec', the Deutz is a standard production engine.

    What's The curb weight and how far can you go on a tank of diesel? Impressive engineering u must have a strong background.
    Are all the radiators for the transmission since engine is air-cooled?

    • @Stuntman175
      @Stuntman175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those radiators are intercoolers for the turbos.

    • @DadyRat

      Curb weight 9,200 Lbs. Fuel tank is 23 gallon. We can go 180 to 200 miles on one tank of #2 Diesel fuel. Front coolers are for engine oil and top coolers are for charge air from turbochargers.
