    I actually got to drive one today. For the price, the handling, technology, style, and MPGs more than make up for the lack of 0-60. In corners, it was very planted and fun. I managed to fool the DCT in auto, but in manual, the paddle shifters were actually a joy to use - no 2 second wait for a shift. It just shifted. As somebody who needs control while driving, that's awesome.
    I asked the dealer to call me when they got a blue one. For the price and my budget, it's perfect. I can't wait for it!

    I was sooo sure that this was gonna be another "easy" car review, from one of the newer youtube reviewers. Where every cars handling is a revelation and the engine is peppy.
    But no,..you guys actually REVIEWED the car. Thumbs up for an insightful and (most of all) truthful review.

    @tim3058 Visibility was quite good. And, for the paranoid, the tech package includes a back-up camera option.

    The car is fantastic and the paddle shifters are really fun, the turns are great, it's got a lot of space, the included equipment is light years ahead of everyone....it drives just fine, and if you want speed the turbo is next year...I'm 6'1" and the back seat is fine for me. Any negative reviews are either from Toyota-loving idiots or people who have never driven the car...its not made to be fast, it's made to be fun and efficient...and it is.

    Can't wait to see the turbo model. In addition to rivaling the Scion tC and Honda CR-Z, this Veloster ought to be a nice Mini alternative too. The base car already has more power than a standard Cooper, and the turbo model will have about the same power as a Cooper S with the John Cooper Works pkg. Great job, Hyundai.

    I've read that the "more stylish" Hyundai models aren't selling well in Korea. Sales in Europe and US will be crucial.

    Champaign, IL...Fully Loaded Manual was pretty weak, only because a car like that needs more power to be a "sportscar"....otherwise the stuff normal drivers care about....I'm 6'1" 210lbs and was comfortable in the back seat, although I would gladly trade the kind of cool panoramic roof for that 2" more headroom, and about 150lbs less weight on the car...it handles great in turns gets fantastic mpgs and is really quiet on the highway...plus the touchscreen allows pics, screensavers, Pandora, etc.

  • @bnr32gtr90
    @bnr32gtr90 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    pretty good review kinda revolved around the lack of power, the 1.6 out of the accent which is also better with the auto than the manual. The veloster weights 100kg more than an accent but its packed with way more technology even compared to the top of the line accent in canada but the price is very close to the elantra trim levels more than the accents

    @RaCeR063 It must just be you, because I (the guy driving) really liked the car. The interior was great for the price point as were the amenities, & it handled well. My biggest problem was this: the transmission is geared for fuel economy & I couldn’t coax any power from the engine. The name of the show is Driving Sports not Driving Comfort or Driving Fuel Economy.

    People act like the third door is a new thing. The Saturn coupe I think was the first to to it back in the early 90s. I could be wrong tho.

    Its just amazing to think how far the Koreans has come. These are definitely great looking cars and the turbo should be rippers. But again... Im not sure if I would buy a Korean car.... what the neighbours would say behind my back..ya know... I think I'm going to stick with my excellent Focus ST225.... for now.

    @vicmackey1268 the Turbo will be out "May 2012", just like this was supposed to be out "Early summer 2011"...so figure Fall next year....it'll have 208hp with the same dual clutch. As for the 0-60 in this standard, no it's not the greatest, but with the automatic 35-70 (passing power) is just fine...the one we have at O'Brien Auto Park is a white with Black accent fully loaded without leather (it's the same cloth-leatherette as the Sonata Turbo) and goes for $22,580 with destination charge.

    I think the Veloster is in most ways a very hip young car that even us 49 year olds like looking at. And the Turbo will add maybe $1000-$1500 maybe to the price.

    Korea has not built garbage in the last 5-7 years. You should read some car magazines. They all love the new Hyundai and Kia. Consumer Reports pulled the CIVIC from it's recomended list, and the Elantra is ON the list. That should tell you something.

    While it is true you can get loaded accent for much less than a loaded veloster the accent feels a lot cheaper when you sit inside.
    And veloster offers more high tech stuff.
    Elantra doesn't come in manual transmission at top trim level.

  • @mrpmj00
    @mrpmj00 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was interested in its looks but I've been reading/watching videos about how it's anemic because the torque is low at 128 lbs that kicks in late at 4800 rpm. That's way slower than my 2008 Scion xB with 160 lbs torque at an early 4000rpm. The Hyundai also does not have side marker lights built into the side mirrors like the Scion xB. And no, I DO NOT want a turbo due to turbo lag and durability issue; give me a bigger normal aspirated engine please. Guess I'll keep my Scion xB.

    @monkeyman8644 I thought it was pretty good. The rear torsion bar with integrated 23mm bar did a good job. either trail brake in and power through or go in hot...lift off the trottle and the car rotated around nicely! Aaron was shotgun while i was on most of the twisties.

    Nice daily-driver car, however with ONLY 138hp is going to be hard to pass let say ...a TURTLE! A more performance oriented review will show the real car dynamics of the car. I do not care about MPGs but if Hyundai provides a 180 to 200hp engine option it will be more to my taste. For the green generation, the 138hp or a 2hp engine will do. A car should reward the driver, therefore I rather wait for the turbo one.

  • @kens97sto171
    @kens97sto171 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DickCheneyXX
    Well, I guess they will be. The turbo model is coming. 200HP I think. But when you compare it to other small cars it's making acceptable power. Power to weight is about the same as a Civic, I personally would just get an Accent. I like the looks of the Veloster, but NOT at that price. I can get more room about the same performance for less money and the Accent is actually almost BIG inside. I've got a 15yr old Miata for having fun in the corners.

    what makes me not think of this car seriously is the fact that they didnt put a hidden door on the other side , for the average buyer , the a-symetrical design wont make much sense and i feel they would sell may more if they just put in another hidden door and follow the foot steps in something like the nissan juke

  • @DickCheneyXX
    @DickCheneyXX 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @kens97sto171 Yeah but you are still stuck with an Accent or Sonata body... Its not as if they dont already have an engine for it. My point is that its clearly designed to look like a compact sports car. Just drop a decent engine and this could be very competitive against the likes of the Civic SI, Sentra SER and Mazda 3.

    Hyundai is top in class of reliability and build quality. They have changed MUCH in the last 5-7 years. It is Honda and Toyota that are the piles of crap now days... Ford also is doing very well... like that new Fiesta and Focus. But you really should do some research or better yet go drive one. Try the new Accent... it is the Cheapest car and is much nicer than a Fit. or Yaris. Elantra is WAY ahead of a Civic.

    @acacia4109230015 At the morning presentation the Hyundai reps were touting the Blue Link & encouraged us to test it while we were out driving for the day. It should have been working fine, but when we got back at the end of the day, they told us the system was having technical difficulties.

    1.6 Liter 138HP car weighs 2500 lbs. Should be more than enough to be adequate, but not much more than that. 0-60 is about 8 sec. and gets 40MPG. I think it is decent.The Turbo should be coming. My problem is the PRICE.. To get one loaded your in the low 20's... REALLY I can get a Turbo Sonata for $25K. When this car was shown at Detroit Auto show they had it priced at $15K-18K. They should have stuck to that. I can get a loaded Accent with same engine same weight for $16K

    @miloootic Yes, I may have an inferiority complex because I was brought up as a poor kid in rich school. People who suffer from it try to compensate for their feelings of inferiority by making achievements. They always have the need to achieve in order to compensate for their inferiority and thats why you shouldn't be surprised when you know that a great number of achievers who changed the world suffered from inferiority complex. I am not changing the world but own Golf R32 and ST225 Good 'nuff?
