@@MariselaCantu-i6b yeah…I remember knowing it was terrible, but still too young to fully understand and appreciate just how heinous that act was. Now these days this is an unfortunately common story in the news.

I was a recent high school graduate with the class of ‘84. 40 years of pure hell ever since. Plus, graduating from high school did absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. I know this was a very sad, tragic mass shooting at the time as I well remember the headlines the next morning. 20 slain at CA McDonald’s read the Austin American-Statesman living in Austin 40 years ago in ‘84. Crappy year for me.

Why no picture of the suspect? What was his motive? Was this a hate crime? Why are they not reporting the motive?

He was mentally unstable and hated minorities. He lived right down the road and told his wife he was going hunting humans. He'd called a mental health facility a day or two before and they wrote his name down wrong, so they never got back to him.

Do you seriously want to glorify the murderer who had mental deficiencies and essentially had suicidal ideation which caused him to brazenly and deliberately kill innocent lives? Why do you care about the perpetrator?

There was plenty of analysis at the time. It was global news , even in 1984. There was actually no clear motive. The dude had moved to California from Ohio, had lost two jobs, speculation he didn't like Hispanic people.
He had called a mental health hotline before the shooting but there was confusion and details not taken down correctly. Nobody suspected anything on that day. The shooter lived in Averill Rd, about 150 metres from the McDonalds, opposite it.

I always think about the toddler that lost there life along with the parents! That baby would have been 41 years Old today if they survived. Sad that there life was taken away soo early
