    I've had a 144Hz monitor for almost a year now and if I hadn't watched til the end of this video I wouldn't have realized that you need to actually set it to 144Hz in order to take advantage of it. And suddenly, everything is so much smoother. I feel so stupid.

      Wow, that sucks!
      Recently convinced my friends that 144 Hz does not work in borderless too, even with 144 Hz in Windows. They didn't even notice before I pointed it out. Once you become used to the smoothness of > 60 Hz, it's very noticeable. Really wish it would work, but it doesn't with my AMD card.

      Lower your quality settings. It improves frame rate consistency. Turn off any form of anti-aliasing/SMAA, change the rendering factor to 100% (from 141% default) and play around with some of the quality settings. I have a 1080 and another computer with dual R9 Furys and play on a 144hz monitor too, and I still lower some settings to keep as close to 144hz as possible. It also keeps my game from going wonky with frame rate up/down issues, and keeps input lag consistent.

    Enabling the Reduce Buffering setting can cause lots of hellish stuttering if your framerate drops below your monitor's refresh rate. Running a 144hz+ monitor means with that setting on you have to run at at least 150fps without ever dropping below that, or stutter will occur and that will cause inconsistencies with reaction based actions

    Really appreciate this video. I am a low-end gamer and my fps is never over 60 in overwatch but thanks to your video at least it looks decent. I've set all of the settings to how you recommended and the only performance loss is when the potg intro is being played. I used to have a stable 60 fps but now it's a stable 20 which is not a drawback at all. Thanks for this video, love u.

    followed the guide to a T, but only dropped 1 point to 14.3sim. I decided to try messing with custom framerate and set it to double my monitor's refresh (so FR cap at 120) and my sim dropped to 8.9 and i was able to keep my framerate consistent.
    Side note: just found your channel the other day and I gotta say your guides are amazing. Great work and thanks for the tips!

    Greetings from COMMANDO here 😊 I watched the full vid, and set the settings as described. I have set my monitor to 144hz before, but only got 70ish fps in the game. After setting my cap to 154 fps, and putting all settings as described, i honestly feel like a GOD playing the game with consistant 154 fps, and an imput lag of 6.8 (as opposed to the old 70ish fps and 19.3 input lag!). I can honestly say, that i feel like another person playing the game! Constantly getting headshots as hanzo, and hitting soldiers rockets on point, carrying the team to victory! It is SERIOUSLY UNBELIVABLE! And i am not exadurating! I have always thought i was just an awful player, but now i constantly get compliments from my teammates and enemies as well!
    To round this off: YES! THIS ABSOLUTELY 100% WORKS AMAZINGLY! A HUUGE thanks to ioStux for this! And i really mean a HUUGE thanks!

    I didn't think altering my settings slightly would make such a difference, as before I had constant frame rate issues rendering the game unplayable, almost like I was playing some PS1 game, lol. So I never bothered playing it on PC. I'm level 328 on PS4 but PC only level 23, a big difference, haha. But changing to these settings (I had no idea before) and I've won my first 1st place finish in a FFA game, where I'd usually place 5th or lower. Thank You! :D

    What do you think about setting your resolution to 1600x900 (with a native 1920x1080 monitor) and rendering scale to 50% to dramatically increase the red outline thickness?
    Sure, it looks blurry at first but then you learn to concentrate on the outlines and it's way easier to shoot people at long range.
    At least that's what I think, but I'd love to hear what you think about it.

      Your computer's not the problem, your monitor is. If you hooked up a 144 Hz monitor to your laptop you would get less input lag but unless you have a Display Port on your laptop, that won't work since HDMI doesn't support 144 Hz

    • @grantgiles8439
      @grantgiles8439 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maia- San yup it's a connection thing. I have pretty decent connection and it still happens to me. there's not much you can do about it either unfortunately

    • @artmanrom
      @artmanrom 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maia- San It's the ping, the one with the lower ping has the shortest time to the server. For so many times in multiplayer games I have dealt a mortal blow and still I was the dying one. The opposite can occur when you are shooting at point black range but you don't make even a dent in damage cos the target has much higher ping or he' shooting at you through walls.

    • @NonJohns
      @NonJohns 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's because Overwatch has some of the worst netcode out there, you notice how shitty it is when you play tracer a lot like me, where on your screen you blink away from the flash but you get pulled back as if attached to a rubber band. Even on an 18 ping like me you will still get these issues. Annoying as fuck but you get used to it.

    how much fps cap would you recommend for a standard 60 hertz 1080p monitor? I tried 60 but that causes sim to be 16.4 all the time. I also have a 1070.

    • @artmanrom

    i’ve changed all of my settings and have changed the fps to custom and 300 but whenever i go on my game the highest my fps has ever reached is around 20-30 and then it decreases to under 5-10 and my sim is above 150, my game looks very nice and isn’t as pixelated as before but it’s really laggy, is there any thing i can do to make it better?

    Borderless Window or Fullscreen make no difference for me, as no matter what I do, the SIM value never drops below 14.3

      +Lewisking50 it does make a difference in input lag, not SIM

    i have a 60hz monitor and lock my fps to 90, does that mean i have screen tearing as my fps is higher than my refresh rate, should i lock it at 60? i can lock it at 100 or 110 as i play on medium.

    What can I do if min is around 2, average around 5 and max fluctuates between 14 to 40

  • @LG93X

    Mine's at 3.3 / 4.4 / 10+ and the 10 keeps fluctuating. What should I do? The third number is super inconsistent. I have a 60hz monitor btw

    I have some questions about this topic, my laptop that I have runs overwatch at around 80-90 fps and sometimes drops below 80 to 70 or so in a zarya ult or other ultra, I capped my fps at 70(60hz monitor) and my input lag is 14.32 ms or something like that. Is that an acceptable input lag? I've never really step foot into the subject before and assumed if it was over 60 I was good. Thanks in advance

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blizzard changed the way input lag works, meaning it is no longer tied to Framerate. Your Input lag isnt 14, its just your frametime which is no longer added to the input delay. However you are still at a disadvantage using a 60Hz monitor, especially when you get into the higher ranks where the majority of players uses 144hz Monitors.

    Hey ioStux question about limit fps
    If I have a 80 hz monitor is it okay to limit fps to 80 or is it better to limit to 150 which I can consistently reach?
    I get lower input lag on 150 but I've been hearing things that its better to have the cap the same or just above the monitor hz?

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to definitely cap it to 150 =) That way input lag is going to be as low as possible!

    Hey, I only have a 60 fps monitor but I found that the game feels MUCH smoother when I set it to custom fps 300, but I don't reach 300 fps consistenly. You said anything else but 300 fps is pointless, so what should I do?

    • @ioStux

      Keep it unlimited, the higher the better!

    Hello! I'm a bit confused with the Limit FPS bit. I had it on Custom for awhile at 300. I have a 60Hz monitor and when in game I go above that 130+ FPS. But when I am in the menu I stay at 60 FPS. My aim doesn't seem to be affected when I am using Custom. But I'm still not sure! I'm not sure what setting I should be on. Should I stay on custom or convert to Display based?

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The menus are simply limited at 60fps to save energy and heat :)

    • @ecnalms851
      @ecnalms851 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So shall I still go custom but put the limit bar on 60?

  • @BlackMarluxia

    What might be possible bottlenecks for Input lag? Can't get my SIm below 14.3 MS. I'm running on a GTX 570 with a 60 Hz Monitor. Setting are all down for maximum competitiveness and FPS are locked to my display, running at a consistent 70. I suppose my Monitor needs more hz in that case, or would it be more likely due to the graphics card?

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BlackMarluxia Unlimit your Framerate :)

    • @BlackMarluxia
      @BlackMarluxia 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wouldn't that be bad since my FPS might fluctuate then?

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      See how many fps you get, and set a custom limit. If you get between 120-150 fps, then you can limit it to 120fps and get lower input lag while it still stays consistent :)

      just have everything on low or off and make anti aliasing at fxaa low doesnt affect fps at all and makes edges look smoother also use 75% render scale it may be a bit hard and weird getting used to it but once u get used to it there's basically no difference between 75% and 100%.

    when i turn reduce buffering on i get screen tearing when using gsync
    reduce buffering doesnt change the SIM value for me but ...............

    • @ioStux
      @ioStux  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sorgair I dont use Gsync sadly so I cant help you with the tearing. What reduced buffering does is it decreases your input lag even though that isnt reflected in the Sim value. If you are running at less than 100 fps you should definitely turn it on because the reduction in Input lag is quite noticeable!
