Im homeschooled and there is this program I’m taking to become a vet assistant before I’m finished with school! Then when I am done with school fully. I’m planning on becoming a vet technician!
Definitely encourage y'all to look into becoming a veterinarian. I'm currently a tech assistant at a vet clinic, been working theres for a year and a few months. Love it, and there will be challenging times with customers and some patients that are stressed. You also want to find a place with good employees, makes the job a lot easier. Still learning a few things for myself and still deciding whether or not this is the field I will for sure be wanting to pursue.
This is wholesome & I believe in you Kate! I’m currently studying to be a veterinarian and I just started my first job in a clinic. I was dreaming about this since I was your age, as well. Anything is possible girl! Focus in your science and math classes and you’ll do great!
Gaby Bustillo Oh hey! Wow I actually made that comment 2 years ago- a lot has changed since then but i still am wanting to be a veterinarian! I actually changed my name to Cameron, because i am transitioning from female to male, i know kinda off topic 😅 but I haven’t gone by the name kate in a while- but even now i still want to be a veterinarian! But a boy veterinarian 💙
This will be useful for me for i want to become a veterinarian to save all types of animals including reptiles and amphibians I'm doing my best in science so i can finish science extremely early and study on becoming a vet to save all types of animals!!!
Peaches Lehanes I wish you the best of luck it's an awesome goal to have, a fascinating subject to study plus you're never done learning so there's always room new insights/advances to help animals in the field.
2:34 That blue top tube would be spun immediately and separated (as the BTTs are for coagulation test). We never put them in the bag, as a rule, less we forget.
Some veterinary hospital and laboratory protocol will require use of exam gloves throughout venipuncture and sample handling. One often does not know your patient has infectious disease until diagnostic results are reported. Waiting until results is not good laboratory practice (GLP), or standard of practice/procedure, by state and federal professional associations and governing bodies in which we work. Removal of the needle and either direct sample into uncapped tubes or replace needle with 20g sterile needle and inject into serum or plasma separator tube, then anticoagulant tube, to reduce risk of hemolysis, which can greatly affect blood chemistry, morphology, and cell counts.
I have 2 years experience working closely with my brother in law who trained me on site as a vet tech. However I don't have a vet tech degree. I do however, have 3 years towards a bachelors of fine arts degree which contains many basic courses with credits that could go towards a vet tech degree should I pursue one. But what I'm wondering is if I ever leave my brother in law's clinic and try to get a job somewhere else and have him vouch for me, would I be able to demonstrate my abilities and get hired without the degree?
Yes! I was hired straight out of high school at an exotic hospital just because I had the experience. Most places will give you a chance if they see you know what you're doing, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
I was wondering the same thing. I got hired in the spot as a veterinarian assistant with no degree or experience but I am getting trained. I do however as in your situation have a bachelors in env. Sci and not sure if a degree would help if wanting to work I’m some other hospital. Does experience matter more vs. someone who is fresh out of vet school
Injecting the needle into the top of the tube can damage the rbcs. It’s better for the rbcs to take the top off and take the needle off the syringe and inject it into the tube
This was really helpful in teaxhing me the basics, ive been wanting to take classes but Ofc as an 11 year old THERE ARE NONE!! meaning i can learn off of these videos, However (By what knowlage i have acumulated already-)I noticed that the needle looked bent aftertakeing it out of the lavender top tube, which Can cause hemolysis which is not good for HTC measurements.
If you work in a clinic as an assistant or tech, you can easily have opportunities to learn how to use a centrifuge & deal with blood! You just have to find the right places who aren’t afraid to teach you.
@@gabybustillo13 yeah i figured i could be a technologist with a 4 year degree, but do they require certifications from vet schools on top of that? im getting my degree at a state school so i just wanna make sure im at the right path bc im already 2 years into this degree haha
@@jessicarabbit142 Well it depends. Just for clarification, are you wanting to be a full on veterinarian or just a vet technician? Because they are actually two different paths when it comes to schooling. A veterinarian goes through about 7-8 years of schooling (4 yrs undergrad, 4 yrs vet school). Whereas a vet tech typically just needs to go through a certificate program. There are ways to work in a clinic without being certified, though.
@@gabybustillo13 just a vet tech not a full on veterinarian, can you get certified without going through an particular vet program if that makes sense? like if i have a BS in biochem, would i be able to get certified anyway?
Yes. I got hired without a certificate simply because I have the experience, and also a bachelors degree (env sci) it has nothing to do with vet ass! and the clinic wasn’t afraid to teach me. Sometimes experience matters more than a students fresh out school.
For in house labs usually the technician. Sometimes samples are sent to a laboratory to be tested by designated specialists if more in depth diagnostics is needed.
hi my name is simone i'm 13 and i would to become a vet! or a vet technician and this video really helped. and if anyone has any tips for the future please do tell!
Don't worry, there's a TON of rules and practice along the way. Needle anxiety means you have empathy. That's good in that you can capably be caring and careful.
Hehe, .. I am a veterinarian, collecting blood from poultry is my job every day that I do. However,, I was most afraid of when it comes to the hospital for medical check-up, to have blood drawn. phobia?
Just wondering why vets prefer syringe draws rather than a vacutainer type system. I need to run some pre-surgical labs on my dog and will use a 22 ga butterfly system for collection. I am a human medical technologist and just want to save $$$ since I have the best and latest instruments at my disposal. For pre anesthesia I was thinking renal panel, liver, basic metabolic and cbc w/diff, any others?
Vacutainers tend to be more costly, and overall more difficult to use in animal medicine. Animals don't know how to sit still very well, and using a syringe allows for better control if there are slight movements. Overall, you'll notice that a lot of the fancier equipment and practices in human medicine are not so present in vet med due to costs, efficiency, etc.
I'm not sure where you live but in the US they generally want you to be 18 due to liability if something happens. But there are other things thay vet assistants do such as care of surgical instruments that you would be able to do!
At 16, you can start out as a kennel tech. Then when you turn 18 you can be a vet tech/assistant. Right now, i would look into volunteering at local animal shelters! Most require minors to be with a guardian/parent while they're volunteering. Follow your heart and your dreams. You'll get there soon! I was just like you. Now im 18. Im certified in veterinary assisting, and i work as a vet tech in an animal hospital 😊
This is a video about collection, not the actual test. Medicine shouldn’t be something that is inexpensive or cheap. 15 minutes is the time it takes to clot and spin.. so it can be sent to a lab and be stable in transportation.
My puppy had two puppies at 8 weeks old they went to a new home together how ever momma didnt get to see them off and she is now going thur hell thinking that she will look up and i will be gone. She is really haveing a hard time not knowing where they went the new puppies parents said that his bet told him that its not good for puppies to see their momma after they went to new homes is this true?
