I love the safety valve on the pop off valve, have never seen that before. Im in my veterinary assistant externship and im currently learning all about this, so thank you for the great video.
Very interesting video. Very well explained. Have you ever tried a Dräger Primus anesthesia machine? In our university setting we use them on all our human patients. Every weight category: neonates 500 g to morbid obese 240 kg. It is a closed rebreathing circuit even for the neonates. Thus we can go minimal flow (0,3-0,5 l/min of fresh air). Using Desfluran or Sevofluran, it saves a lot of money.
I love your channel I hope you make some more like contestant gross stuff I love watching this stuff cuz I'm going to be in vet and I am 8 years old so still need a lot to go
Me and a nurse gased ourselves once, because there was a hole in the tube😅 it was at a vet. We were both like "why is this dog not going under? Why are my lips tingling?"
I’m eleven and I have a plan for my future already I want to first be a vet tech while being in vet school to get the idea and know what to do then I want to graduate from vet school and find a job. I want a small house with lots of big dogs and DEFINETLY HORSES
Why is the veterinary anesthesia machines so different from a regular human anesthesia machine I expected them to be very similar uncle really surprised
I have 2 questions: 1. My practice sedates and then places cath but I noticed that by the time the patient makes it to the table for the cath, we have wasted time . By the time they make it into sx they are already starting to wake up and so they end up getting a ton of prop. Does it matter? Should the cath be placed before and then they should be sedated? We had one jump off the table because the cath placement took forever. 2. What does the “round to 0.25 hrs mean on your machine?
You should improve your sedation and induction protocols, you can read the 2020 AAHA anesthesia and monitoring guidelines at aaha.org/anethesia. Maybe you should train your team also, to be faster at the procedure (pre/trans/post) and you'll see how your history changes. Training the team is crucial for you to work faster and better
At my college and at clinics I have been at, we have always gotten a catheter in first and administered the induction drug through it. We sedate the animal first in appropriate methods, then place cath, then induction drug. Maybe see if they can do sedation closer to the surgery.
I did a surgery with the doc. I noticed I messed up by unhooking the pet from the machine by switching OFF first. I should have turned the lever to OFF then unhooked the pet from mouth piece and then turn the machine OFF :/
Hello I find these videos extremely helpful. Would you mind doing the math for the resvior bag on a 60 lb patient. I'd like to know im doing the math correctly. Thank you
Our clinical instructor is horrible. Just because she has 20+ years' experience, she treats us as if we should know the same. I don't want to go back to school in the fall, but don't want to drop out either. I did that last term after 6 weeks and did not return this January. How do I get past this? My complaints fall on deaf ears in the program.
For the first three minutes of didn't realize, she was talking about animals. I thought "man, kinda rude to talk about patients as animals". But that's what they are. Dumb me.
Most animals are intubated with a breathing tube to keep the airways open. Masks are sometimes used at the very beginning to give a bit of anaesthetic to kick off their induction, or used on small animals like birds.
We don’t use masks very often anymore due to multiple factors, lots of gas wastage, WHS risk to the staff etc. so we put in a ET tube instead, much better practice than “masking down”
It’s just a faster abbreviation we use so we don’t have to say milligram per kilogram per minute in an emergency situation. We just say mg/kg/min because we can understand a basic abbreviation and not waste time.
KG is actually 2 syllables and saying kig is one. If you don't like it, it's kind of an easy problem to solve, but that's what most people in the veterinary field say.
I usually take in person classes, but anesthesia was only offered online this semester. This was a life saver. I now get it. Thank you.

Why is the veterinary anesthesia machines so different from a regular human anesthesia machine I expected them to be very similar uncle really surprised
same hear i thought id learn about them in general to be able to talk to my dad about what he does at work but like you say humans are different
How about ventilator? What does ventilator do in a set of inhalation anesthetic machine? Thanks!
This took me way to long to realize it was not about people

@@luciazl1679 thank you! Unfortunately, I don’t have that kind of power there. The doctor calls the shots.

Is the idea of using Isoflurane economical? From what I know from the human side it is a nightmare to titrate compared to Sevo?

Thanks mam
At 1:12 she said the (Animal) is going to be breathing and rebreathing portion of what they exhale????
Yes - but it does go through a CO2 absorber so they aren't breathing it in
Why is the tidal volume times 6? Where does the 6 come from? :)
Because the bag has 6 breaths worth in it
Took me a while to figure out that this vid was meant for vets lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣

🤩
is this machine for animals or for humans?
Animals
Good
When the vet do surgery on them the animal doesn't feel a thing
Where is the face mask for the animal

Why she keep saying “animal” relating to ‘patients’??

what the hell is a kig, you mean kilogram, this is what happens when yanks attempt to use the metric system
It’s just a faster abbreviation we use so we don’t have to say milligram per kilogram per minute in an emergency situation. We just say mg/kg/min because we can understand a basic abbreviation and not waste time.
@@emmarose3220 kaying kay gee or KG is just as fast

Do you use it your self some times lol ;)
i understand nothing
'Kig' .. no it's kilograms, or 'K G' for the Americans.
i was just thinking the same thing as i heard it lol... like we don't say "libs" for pounds
I've heard mig also be used for mg
In the veterinary field we say "kigs" so if you don't like it, you don't have to say it
