    This is the best demo video I have found online so far. I love all of your detailed tips on how to avoid common errors in placement. Thank you!

    I just want to say how much you helped me understand what I was doing wrong when placing catheters! I would place them just fine at times, especially bigger dogs, but small dogs and cats is where I have trouble. The veins kept blowing. I would get a flash but when I went to insert the catheter more and it stopped! I had techs and vet helping me to see what I was doing wrong but I could never grasp what they were telling me. But after watching this, everything just clicked. Now I’ve been using your tips and have placed catheters more accurately! So thank you! 😁

      @@zephyridianyou're a vet? Not using proper grammar and asking for help online? Genuinely curious if you're currently seeing patients.

    You’ve been busy Kendra. Love the new channel. So valuable @ 6:40, thank you! Might I add: flush catheter and release lock first, tab your tape and don’t wrap too tight (“fat paw”!)

    Very nice demonstration. You explained things so well. I have been trying to learn catheter placements. I couldn't figure out a that is comfortable for me to hold it and I like your method,, today at my job I have a patient coming in who will need an IV catheter, gonna try holding it that way with my index finger locked, never thought of holding the catheter with my second finger and thumb lol

    My clinic has us have our thumb on the catheter the entire time while using the other hand to place the tape around it. I'm assuming there's no real reason for this, considering the tape will hold it in place once you place the first or second tape?

    What about when ppl take completely out the stilette but now the blood isn't flowing in the catheter, so they decide to stick the stilette back in the catheter? Wouldn't it either damage the catheter but more importantly if the stilette was placed on a paper towell isn't that not dirty and risking the pet to get septic?

    Thank you so much for a wonderful video….one quick question ….do you break the lock of catheter before inserting it….or your finger can move it as such ….

    • @kendrathevettech
      @kendrathevettech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I will quickly unseat the catheter itself from the stylet a tiny bit, then replace it before attempting to place it. I believe I understood your question correctly, if not, let me know!

    That is a great video. What size foley catheter do you use? And it's latex I presume? Thank you!

    • @kendrathevettech
      @kendrathevettech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a bit since I built this, but if memory serves it was just a plain old 18F foley catheter. Nothing special, just the cheapest I could order.

    I'm online for vet assistant its very cringing to me to see a needle go under the skin so I'm trying to prepare for it but do vet assistant do catheters draw blood and give vaccines?

    Please help. My cat had an iv catheter and after i brought him home, the next day, i saw his skin was quite red and rough and crusty to the touch. Im not sure if the vet hurt him with the fur trimmer by going too deep and peeling his skin or if the gummy part of the catheter remained in his vein :(
