These grocery shopping audits y'all are doing are SO helpful. I consider myself VERY frugal, but I learn something from your channel every time I watch.
I learned about The Tight wad Gazette from her being on The Phil Donahue show years ago. Many in the audience made fun of her about some of her ideas. Phil said that many may be using her tips in the future.😊 From that I got her books and monthly newsletters. You are great with your thrifty ideas, too, Tawra.
I'm excited about the Aussie audit coming up! I just had a "derr moment" while watching this. I've been wondering why I our grocery bills are so high. However, I wasn't taking into account the price difference of the USD & the AUD!! Derr! My budget has been $215 AUD/wk for 4 adults 4 nights a week & 5 adults 3 nights a week. BUT that is $137.74 USD & it includes all food, drinks, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, toiletries, first aid items & even some vitamins etc. So just tonight I've realised I'm doing a pretty good job! YAY! And.... 4 of the 5 of us need GF & DF food..... & I can't go to the stores due to a dangerous illness I have, so I have to order online & have the groceries delivered, so I can't get any clearance items unless they're advertised online. Thank YOU for all of your tips that are making a difference to our budget. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Agree having too many spices is overwhelming, I try to keep to minimal , create from what have in both spices &/or condiments ! I just opened my last coffee & Im not buying more because I feel like I have lots of tea so can go between coffee n’ tea to save $$. Love the grocery audits🍁🇨🇦😉
I have been using one big box of tide since you said, we use too much, and how much you use there. We have a LOT of Powdered tide left yet. Maybe in a month I will buy another box. But that really works, and our clothes are clean!!! Tawra, every time I shop, I hear your voice in my head!!!! Apparently I am NOT shopping alone. lol
Enjoyed this video! We go without grocery shopping for two weeks in our household until we get our Social Security checks. (We're retired.) I'm trying to shop for things only on sale. I save bacon grease to use for soups. I make soup to have for lunch every day. A large pot lasts all week. I like to start with bacon grease and add flour or corn starch to thicken for cream soup. Otherwise, It flavors for a nice vegetable broth. Every time I cook meat or vegetables, I pour the juice into my soup pot. Even when opening a can of black olives, I pour it in my soup pot. Soup is a collection of all those flavors and an economic, healthy lunch every day.
Love these audits...I think that's the missing element...actually interacting with other shoppers visually...hopefully this concept will help attract more viewers too. 😊
I subbed to her channel. I love Mexican food and I want to learn to cook it for myself. This was a great video. Tawra and Jill are so good with these Audit videos. Thank you!
All we have where I live is Walmart, Aldi, Publix, Target, Sams Club Bulk store and Grocery Outlet(which is 10%more at checkout). All these other stores left our area in Florida several years ago. We've never had a Krogers or Costco.
Oh, I did move my paper towel holder away from its handy-to-reach spot on my kitchen counter just to see if I could tell where the usage was going. That’s an interesting experiment!
I make a Western omelette with pepperoni or bacon or sausage. Then I add salsa then melt the cheese in. I make it in a big batch. Then make a burrito with it as needed
The video and audit today was wonderful! Plus, I got to add another great youtube channel and I'm looking forward to watching Gaby, too! No matter how long your videos are, when they are done, I am disappointed.
You have inspired me! I am trying to buy as little as possible between now and the pre-Thanksgiving sales. I’m using freezer meals I’ve already prepared and trying to use the freezer and pantry items we already have! This is a huge challenge for me and our family of 9! 😳🙏🏼🤣
My mom used to cook with bacon grease all the time. She could make a cheap can of green beans taste sooo good. A little bit of bacon grease in your biscuit mix makes the fluffiest and softest biscuits ever. My problem is that we eat very little bacon. Pork just doesn't agree with my tummy, so its a rare treat for us. Try it sometime if you do cook bacon. Youll be surprised.
Can you touch on how to shop sales vs sticking to your list while staying in a weekly budget? Do you use part of the weekly budget on things you absolutely need and the rest on stocking up on sale items?
One dairy item I do get at Walmart is Heavy cream, which is only 2.48 a quart. The same size at Safeway is 6.50 on sale and over 7.00 on sale at Lucky!
I always check my flipp app store flyers & always double check before heading out to shop & check your pantry fridge n’ freezer; do some sort of meal plan + prep!! 🍁🇨🇦😉
I miss being able to be in the store at 6:30 in the morning when our four kids were young and at home! Meat was in a special section marked way down because the sale by date was the next day. I would bring it home and freeze it. Any good sales were available that early, too. I can't drive because of a disability now and family members are not early risers.
Well Tawra, you seem to be the best thing going for me!!! LOL. it is 1/4 to 2;00 a.m. here in Alberta and I am watching this late because I cannot sleep. But I just moved awhole bunch of stuff OUT of my pantry , When we moved, it got put in the C-CAN by MISTAKE. It sat in the heat for a couple of months, then when it got to Alberta GOT ACCIDENTLY put in a shed outside and it FROZE. It was dry goods that were in plastic containers, that had one of those PKG'S for mylar bags, in all of them. Then taped the top. BUT now I don't feel comfortable saving it, from 2021 after what it went through. So later today I will be emptying every one, then putting the bottles and plastic containers in a big bag, and taking them to the bottle depot, next time we have a full bag and are in our town. No special trips. Not wasting the money for those. lol I can hear that TAWRA voice in my head again!!!! Now I have a huge space to organize my baking goods, spices and on one shelf the things we use every day. The top shelf is full, as it's for dry soups that are really cheap here right now, but I try to buy a box or two, every grocery day, because I know one day they will go up. WE eat out of the oldest box and keep moving everything forward. But I cannot wait to see your pantry re-vamp show. Yes I wash my jars and use them as well, in the pantry. Waste not want not. I know how much more now, what I want to put in there now. Heavy cases of soups, etc. go on the floor. Shelves are for lighter storage. I just love these shows you really inspire me!!!! Thank you all of you. Kathy from Alberta Canada.
I was shocked when my repairman told me to use only a teaspoon up to a tablespoon of detergent in my washer machine. I was having problems with a white residue on my dark clothes. What a savings!
I'm in Kenai (keen eye) Alaska so I shop in Kenai and Soldotna. I have a Fred Meyer in Soldotna and I can usually get 80/20 Ground beef for around 2.50 a pound. I go on Wednesdays mornings before work so I can find those clarences and stock up. I prefer the flavor of 10% or less fat ground beef so when I can get those for $4 or less a pound I buy that because everything here in Alaska seems to be about a dollar more than the lower 48. I moved from Oregon and the ground beef used to be $4 a pound for the low fat and up here it was 5 to $6 and it's gone up about $4 since I moved here 8 years ago. Even the Anchorage stores are a bit high. Oddly though I rarely catch the 75/72 on clearance. And it's usually the butcher packed vs the chubs rolls
Hi, greetings from East Texas. We stopped shopping for the most part at Walmart. Only very limited. We shop Aldi and Brookshire but (sales and clearance only). Ollie's for soap, and other household items. Specialty Items Ross, Burlington and other similar Stores Now days we shop 10plus different stores 😮. God bless you all and Agape in Jesus.❤
my husband also wakes up at 4am, so every Sunday i make a batch of breakfast sandwiches for him to grab and warm up at work, lunch is dinners leftovers or a sandwich when i find meat and tunas on sale
I buy my spices at the health food stores, where you can dig out the amount you want, and have a much better choice. Also a much better price. Then fill up pickle jars with the spices, so I always have lots of what I use the most.
I go to Aldi for the dairy, and the eggs, I also buy my chips and cookies (gasp) there. I also like their pork products, but not necessarily their chicken or beef. I don't buy potatoes at Aldi because they frequently are not lasting very long. Being on food assistance with a tight budget, I know my prices. I didn't see anything really "Mexican" that she purchased, and that surprised me. Organizing. I generally use the boxes that the wet cat food cans come in. My cat food is highly organized, especially so that the cats don't eat the same flavors all the time. but I also put all my various types of canned food in them too, the cans do fit well. (I have wired shelves, and cans will fall onto their brothers if not in some sort of box. I brought in fly eggs in a bag of onions here in Florida. My friend had them a few weeks ago, and couldn't figure out where they came from. I spotted the flies as soon as they hatched and knew where they came in. I use plastic shopping bags (not the ones from Walmart, but mine are much bigger, like totes), to organize my freezer. Different meats in different totes, and one for veggies. I do buy granulated onion and granulated garlic in the big containers. I find them to be less expensive, and I use them most along with salt and pepper. The others, even for baking, are the smallest container I can get at a good price. I use bacon grease in place of shortening in both biscuits and cornbread - yummy! Tawara, people are still buying for the apocalypse, and their day-to-day shopping is different. Two different stockpiles, and that is where those pop top cans are not being rotated from, and exploding. In Florida, I buy smaller bags of potatoes. I have dehydrated some, but I prefer to make twice baked potatoes and freeze them, or mashed potatoes, and freeze them, or fries (cut into wedges), partially cook them, and freeze them. For fresh I usually peel and steam before frying, or making potato salad. Fresh potatoes are not quite as easy to have on hand here.
Her pantry looks organized/ tidy. I use a combination of baskets and putting stuff on the shelves. I have some placemats from dollar tree i use as shelf liners in a coupek sections so stuff doesnt fall through. It functions well. I am not a tidy person but it is easy to get back in order. Ir see what we have/ need. U have a bin in the basement i use for over flow or emergency can goods and a couple rice and pastas but i also realized i cant maintain more then one bin of over flow. I am too out of site out of mind.
I saw somone make mcgriddle muffins. May be a fun option to have on hand for quick breakfasts. Basically was like a pancak muffin that had sausage in it and maple syrup and cheese.
I've recently started getting recommendations for other content creators do to their shopping videos. I was totally shocked watching these creators with food stamps/EBT users that use the funds to buy "CRAP". Mostly junk food. Such as, premade meals, chips, cookies, snack cakes, juice boxes, sodas, even candy that is covered under food stamps. I became a alcoholic as well after watching a few of these channels. How is it the food stamps are allowed to be used this way. I've debated for a few weeks now as to whether or not to comment to you about as I'm sure you are already aware of this, but I think it would be great if you did a series where you commentate on these type channels. Just a thought. I wonder how many of us who are frugal know just how much junk foods can be purchased with food stamps. I've been subscribed for several years now and I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for all y'all do.😊
❤the audits. I just renewed my Sams membership. I did the Math.😊 Gas .35-40¢ cheaper per gallon and over counter medicine. I make the 70$ membership price back plus. Last 2 years were free memberships d/t CostCo down street. Last 3 years I have paid 70$ total. As you say Do the Math.😊🧮 Thanks again ❤the audits.
I have some baskets on my shelf. It looked like a few of her baskets were straight side. Bags of choc chips or dog treats or small spice & extract containers. Gfree flour bag mixies. Not for cans or boxes applesauce ect. .a loaf pan is great for packets. Like to see Gabi new pantry.
We have a family of nine, so Sam’s Club is a good deal for us, but I look at price per ounce. Their gas is often 10-20 cents a gallon less than other gas stations. It can be a huge waste of money, but if you know how to use it, it can be worth it for a big family. I probably would not use it for a family of 4.
I'm loving these video's also. And it seems to be catching on. That's all I'm saying. ANYWAYS along w/the video the little challenges if you keep mentioning them helps me. I'm sitting in the back of the bus and well😢 i like my paper towels.😂 But i'm coming around and the organization yes back of the bus again! Yes i like the challenges. I EVENTUALLY come around. Love you guys.
I lived in Australia for three years. I don’t remember if any of my friends used animal fats or not. As for me, I come from a long line of great Southern cooks. You can bet we all use(d) animal fats - especially bacon grease. 😄 Uh, Tawra? You’re still the only person I know who says warsh. I don’t think that’s Southern. 😂
Oh I cannot wait to see your audit for Canadian prices, because they have gone up. But you still can get deals, IF you have saved spare grocery money. Check Sobey's, Wal_mart and NO Frills That's what we have in our town. Kathy in Alberta. Canada
Do you have any money saving tips for someone who rents a room, so doesn’t have the space to stock up? I usually plan my meals and I try plan meals that are inexpensive. I eat mostly fruits and veggies. I eat the same thing everyday for a week and then switch it up the next week because I have found it is cheaper for me. Plus, I buy less and it works for me since I don’t have the space right now to stock pile. I have one shelf in the communal fridge and a small amount of space in the freezer. I don’t typically like canned food, but would be willing to branch out a bit and have some occasionally if it saves money. I’m not picky. I just find most canned food to be really flavorless. However, I would be willing to try it. My budget is really tight, so I will take any advice you have. Thanks so much! 😊
Tawra I just bought Bacon Up bacon grease to cook with. It was about $7 for 12 ounces at Walmart. I don’t care for cooked bacon. I know I’m weird! I’m more of a sausage person.
Definitely save bacon grease! Yes, do owups with the folks you are auditing! Aldi is my first store to shop at. I seem to gwt my cheese cheap at Aldi but Im not shopping sales 😮 Im going to have to "get it together!"
These grocery shopping audits y'all are doing are SO helpful. I consider myself VERY frugal, but I learn something from your channel every time I watch.
I would love to see a video of Jill's pantry! Just how she uses inexpensive ways to organize.
Here you go. th-cam.com/video/jxK1jUX9AcM/w-d-xo.html
I love this format!!! I think it’s super helpful and informative for most people who aren’t shopping sales and stocking up!
Also fill those freezer to the top it's more energy efficient!
If not with food, fill freezer with plastic bottles filled 3/4 with water.
I love these videos!! It's great to hear these "real time tips" - I'm so glad you came back to youtube 🎉
Glad you like them!

I’m really looking forward to seeing a Canadian audit! I’ve committed to working on my grocery budget and meal planning over the next month.
Me too!!!! I would love to see Jill’s pantry! Also, I am addicted to your grocery audits! They are so fun and really helping me save and organize!

Awesome! Thank you!
I was just talking to my husband about the price book. Thank you Tawra, Jill, and Mike for the generous gift.

One dairy item I do get at Walmart is Heavy cream, which is only 2.48 a quart. The same size at Safeway is 6.50 on sale and over 7.00 on sale at Lucky!
That's a great price! I buy the quarts of heavy cream there too, but in MD it's 4.36/quart. Still much cheaper than other store's cream.
4.98/qt in GA Walmart, but it’s cheaper than the grocery store. I buy a month’s supply (4) at a time. I get GV almond milk on the same trip.
At the Idaho Walmart a half quart is 2.78 and a full quart is 4.98! Crazy that prices would be so much different!
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to use beef dripping homemade for my cooking now
Thank you so much for the price book. I usually know the stores to shop for certain things at the best price, but this will help me even more. 😊
There’s a price book? Where?
I always check my flipp app store flyers & always double check before heading out to shop & check your pantry fridge n’ freezer; do some sort of meal plan + prep!! 🍁🇨🇦😉
I miss being able to be in the store at 6:30 in the morning when our four kids were young and at home! Meat was in a special section marked way down because the sale by date was the next day. I save bacon grease now (since I heard you mention it) and i love it.
I have about 6 dozen slices. I dehydrate them from my gardens and replenish in the shakers. Love fresh herbs for cooking especially in winter months.
I was shocked when my repairman told me to use only a teaspoon up to a tablespoon of detergent in my washer machine. I was having problems with a white residue on my dark clothes. What a savings!
The food stamp program is based on a formula. Everyone’s formula is different, and it starts with whatever your income is.

I have a friend that delivers for uber ests and some people use that to have Mac Donalds breakfast delivered.
When using the dish pods, that's more than the recommended usage.
So much good stuff !!!

The lobbyist for the "food" industry is quite powerful and makes sure our tax dollars can buy all of that crap.
How do you store potatoes when you stock up on them? Mine always sprout

I wasn't an alcoholic before I went to the PTA meeting...😂😂😂
I cut my roll of paper in half and I found that half a sheet is more than enough in most situations. It looks like a roll of toilet paper, now.
Mac Donald's breakfast sandwich is about 5 dollars near LA.
Homemade flour tortillas have a nicer flavor with bacon grease. Just a little grease and your MASA mix.
I think the laundry ssoap depends on how hard your water is and how dirty your clothws are. I do measure my dish soap by teaspoon

Mustard is a seed

I lived in Australia for three years. I don’t remember if any of my friends used animal fats or not. As for me, I come from a long line of great Southern cooks. You can bet we all use(d) animal fats - especially bacon grease. 😄
Uh, Tawra? You’re still the only person I know who says warsh. I don’t think that’s Southern. 😂
I have those clear containers for my fridge since my fridge is a pain. Lol
How do you keep potatoes from spoiling? I live alone, in Florida, and a 5 lb bag always goes bad before i can use them up.
I store mine in the fridge and they last a bit longer.
I kept mine in the fridge in a plastic container with holes and a blanket or towel. You want to keep them chilled but if too cold they get soft.
When I get a deal on potatoes, I buy one apple to put with them. Usually, that keeps them from sprouting or going bad quickly for me.
I leave mine in the garage which is very cold in the fall/winter early spring then later spring to summer I keep in the fridge
Oh I cannot wait to see your audit for Canadian prices, because they have gone up. But you still can get deals, IF you have saved spare grocery money. Check Sobey's, Wal_mart and NO Frills That's what we have in our town. Kathy in Alberta. Canada
I haven't uploaded for a long time because my family and I have recently got into a rollover car accident. I would appreciate any prayers 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Oh no!!! Are you guys ok?? Please have your mom email me when she can. We certainly will!
Tawra and Jill. I just love these shows, plus your getting your sense of humour back, love it. Keep on Keeping on!. Kathy in Alberta Canada
Milk is over $4 a gallon in PA.
Would you use bacon grease instead of lard in recipes like biscuits? I save my grease but could use other ways of using it up
Yes you can!

Stater. Bros. In California has their brand name bottled water on sale, 2 cases of water for $5.

You can't use cardboard in the south. Roaches love cardboard, but dollar tree has low plastic containers.
Sams club is not as good now, they offer a higher membership for delivery, etc. I find the Walmart+ membership is great as well as Amazon.
Tawra I just bought Bacon Up bacon grease to cook with. It was about $7 for 12 ounces at Walmart. I don’t care for cooked bacon. I know I’m weird! I’m more of a sausage person.
Definitely save bacon grease!
