My hubby and I are in our 40s and 50s and last week we paid our final mortgage payment we are so proud. We stockpile and save money but still enjoy life without wasting money or food. We have both been on the same page financially since we got engaged and we've sacrificed at times but now we have zero debt and I'm able to retire, enjoy life with my husband who works from home in the evenings and I am excited to be a Homemaker and spend time with my husband and our dog enjoying precious time. Life is good but it's not about extravagance

My wedding ring came from a pawnshop too. It was just a thin gold band that cost $20, but it was all I wanted. 24 years later we are still happily married, and I feel blessed.😊

No bride should feel selfish for wanting a nicer engagement ring. It was the only piece of jewelry I ever wanted to be special. If it doesn’t matter to you - fine. But saving up for nice rings is understandable. You will hopefully be wearing it for the rest of your life.💍

@@davisholman8149 I don't judge other women for wanting a nice ring. It just isn't important to me, but what is important to me is the relationships I have with my family, and having no debt. The stress levels went down in our family once the credit cards and mortgage were paid off. It was so worth the sacrifices to make that happen.

I never usually manage to catch you guys live, but always watch you after. Just wanted to let you know that not only have your tips/recipes helped me and my husband save and afford our dream home, but Tawra just being Tawra (you need T shirt merch that says “Tact is not my spiritual gift!”) actually SAVED MY LIFE. For years my Drs dismissed complaints and I never felt worthwhile enough to speak up and disagree. Watching you be so firm in your stances and advocating for yourself and your loved ones taught me to do the same. Turns out for the last 3 years, (ages 32-35) they had been dismissing me when I had breast cancer. My new Drs said if I had waited any longer, it would not have been very treatable. Funny enough, this last summer I discovered you guys and have watched all the old lives to keep learning from y’all! That determined mindset rubbed off on me, I guess! Now I get more time with my daughter and husband because you not only teach me recipes, but taught me to advocate for myself! Love you guys! ❤️

Great show. Having grown up very poor until I was 27, I understand and I have lived all your ways to stretch our dollars. We are a family of 4 and it costs $45 to eat fast food and $60 to $100 for a sit-down dinner. I can cook at home and make my family great meals for $4 to $15 per meal for 4. I will start searching yard sales and thrift stores for your cookbook now, I have a friend who worked for a billionaire as his assistant. He would buy his boss shirts that cost $250 to $400 each. After my buddy retired he was amazed while shopping at a thrift store finding the exact same shirts, brand new marked $5 on a senior day with 25% off

I live in the UK and we are also seeing rising food prices, however, fortunately we aren’t a particularly low income family, but we still save money on our weekly food shop by alternating more expensive foods that we (mainly our children) prefer. For example my 4 year old loves strawberries and blueberries so one week we buy these fruits and the next we will buy bananas and apples which are much cheaper here. My 1 year old loves watermelon which is great because one watermelon is a lot of portions for a 1 year old 🤣 We eat some simpler meat free meals a few days a week and have been stretching the same amount of food we used to cook to make one portion for one of the children to go in the freezer so effectively getting one of them a free meal each time. I think our food shop is slightly cheaper now just doing these very easy changes.

If I need something specific, I say a prayer and ask God to provide. Often times I'll find it within a month or two for peanuts at a thrift store. Sometimes I'll find something heavily clearanced from a "regular" store. Its happened too many times to be a coincidence. God will provide what you need, and oftentimes he will surprise you with something frivolous you just "want."

I did really well grocery shopping yesterday. Ground beef was on sale so I bought 2 packages. Wire mesh, 16 - 18 grade, can be carefully added on. Dig away 6-12, inches 6-8 inches deep and rest attach up the walls.
For chicken run, keeping snakes, strays and buggers. 12 inches away and deep. Then large tree parts, hint; season free fresh wood.
I line my city fences this way for keeping stray dogs from digging through.

Preach it, Sister! Twice divorced. YES, if you date long enough you will know if they're abusive. I married #1 knowing he was mean to me. Everytime we fought I was told to get the (blank) out. After 12 years I did. Only knew husband #2 3 months. I sure don't recommend that. Two great kids from that marriage but that's all the good I have to say about it. #2 made #1 look like a saint. I had written off all men when husband #3 came along. He is a gem that treats me like a woman is supposed to be treated.
From the frugal stand point, dress #1 came from a consignment shop, #2 was my soon to be MIL, and #3 came from Salvation Army and re-donated when I was done. I would have worn an old ring from previous marriages but had sold them. I wear an anniversary ring that was 90% off for a grand total of $100. My husband wears his wedding ring from his first marriage. My idea for those women about to have a hissy fit about this.
A very long story but by no decision on our part, we found ourselves in a two bedroom apartment with two teen boys. We are now at a point that we are going to use the remainder of my husband's VA mortgage allowance to purchase a very modest home on my income alone.
The big thing is that people often can't accept God's will for their lives.
Yes, MOVE! Quit complaining and do what you have to do. Our rent has gone up 10% the last two years. $55 last year, $75 this year. $850 plus a pretty fee. Or new place will be $700 - $750. BTW, based on government information, we're considered to be below the poverty line. People need to quit boo-hooing and adjust their standard of living.

I think there are usually “red” flags, pre marriage, that might indicate a person is capable of abuse…if one is educated enough on toxic people to recognize these signs for what they are. However, toxic people do not exhibit their overt “bad behavior” when trying to reel a potential life partner in. Unfortunately, the obvious indicators are typically kept hidden until a permanent commitment is made. I know people who did not “marry in haste”…dated a long time…yet they were stunned that the abuse started, ever so subtly, right after the wedding.

Mike and Tawra: Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for sharing the Bible and what it says. I have been so ministered to by this video. Thank you both for following God's will for your lives. I am a Christian who struggles to read the Bible so I am listening to it on TH-cam and enjoying it so much. I've just started this new habit and plan on continuing to do it. I've listened to Genesis and have just begun Exodus; I plan on listening to the whole Bible and then doing it over and over until Jesus comes.
Thank you for sharing the ministers online. You see I have Agoraphobia and I am unable to be in large crowds of people so I am unable to go to church.
May God richly bless you both for your ministry.
Tawra and Jill; I am finally getting in my head what you have been teaching about money and eating. I've listened to you for years and have known that what you are teaching is correct and I needed to do what you both said. God has been dealing with me to put into practice what you have been and are teaching. I must admit that I am a stubborn one. I have begun this month to put into practice your teachings. I began my weight-loss journey two and one-half weeks ago. I am amazed at much longer food lasts because I am eating so much. I have lost 3.4 pounds thus far. Thank you so much for continuing to teach; I so appreciate it and love you both. God has blessed me by being able to listen to you and now to implement what I've heard and that I am learning to do.

Everything else is used, even my computer, the desk, the recliners, rocking chair.....well, you get the idea, are all used and old. After thirty years we are putting in new carpet. I was born with a small mouth and am a mouth breather - steak was also tough to eat - so my Grandma( who raised me when my mom was killed) cooked cow tongue or pork. As an adult we eat steak at Mexican restaurants or special occasions. I just don’t personally purchase steak regularly. Thank you for your comment.

I’m so glad that a lot of folks are able to work from home and save money on clothes and eating out, it’s been amazing to see how much mu budgeting clients have been able to save and put that money into investing and savings towards getting into a home. Living within your means, has started to be a Novel concept, I wanted to start a budgeting channel, but I didn’t want to have to be bothered with all of the winning and complaining from folks that are to lazy to change their circumstances. You’ve got to sacrifice now to put yourself into position to do better later; or stop complaining! We used to say would you like some cheese with that wine. Keep up the good work guys!

My daughter stayed with her husband even when he put her head through a wall. She believed God wanted her to stay in her marriage. Her husband would beg for forgiveness after each episode. He wasn't mean when he drank, he wasn't having an affair. One day he beat up their two year old daughter under the guise of discipline. That was the last straw. But it took everyone else in her life screaming at her to leave him to make it happen.

I’m glad she was finally able to leave. Unfortunately, too many women, and sometimes men, have been made to feel tremendous guilt for needing to flee a toxic marriage where they and perhaps their children are being abused. So, they stay, and sometimes end up sacrificing their life. No one wins in that situation.

The look...33:30. Get 'em Tawra. I have been Living on a Dime since long before I knew that was what I was doing. We were poor and no choice but to be frugal. We made plenty of financial mistakes as well. We are by no means rich by most standards as we make far less than many (but also more than many) but we no longer feel poor since we are now able to save a little each month. We feel rich compared to where we were. We grew up poor as well. I started babysitting when I was 9 and got a paper route when I was 12 or 13. I paid for my own clothes, school supplies and toiletries. I paid for my moped, and later car and gas, registration, insurance, etc. I completely agree with you on Toyotas. That has been my experience as well.

I also have found clothes, dishes, plants (fake and real), a table cloth, chairs, Christmas lights, three drawer organizer, tubs, drawer organizer drawers, bowls, pots, frying pans, dishes, etc., I am always amazed at what people through away. Oh and a large Samsonite suitcase on wheels with a handle which costs around $400.00 brand-new & an American Tourist suitcase on wheels with a handle which I think costs around $100.00 brand-new (both were not in the dumpster).

I grew up in a Lutheran church and you were to confirmation classes which included looking up Bible references, studying to memorize the books of the bible and the Beatitudes plus more. Because there were of us kids, my mom bought us a Concordance. I got the Concordance after all of us kids were done. I find the actual reference books to very helpful and when I got my study Bible with Pastor Rice's notes in it (KJV) Bible was wonderful to help comprehend better, along with my church's pastor's sermons that I took notes on, to help learn and comprehend better. Online help is quicker, but I'm old school, I want the written word, especially reading the whole chapter when a verse seems hard to understand or you think it maybe out of context. I am pleased that so many people commented wanting to know the Bible better! The Bible is the 1 thing that is always good for us!😊

I so agree with you two! I see no reason to buy new, we always went to thrift stores and estate sales and got great older quality products for way less than a brand new item of far less quality. Add to that the fun of the hunt, and it was even entertainment! Now I really don't need anything and enjoy my life with what I own. Seldom need to replace anything. Shopping might be 'therapy' for some people, but that is just avoiding reality. Face financial reality, get out of debt, don't buy anything you don't need that will just become clutter, and life becomes so much more fun! I love listening to you to get even more ideas.

Bought a new mattress that was a good name but the springs in it started getting so wacky within a couple months that when you made the bed it looked like you left things under the blankets...Lumos everywhere. We went back to our old mattress and bought a mattress pad and that did ok for a couple months until I started having to go the chiropractor repeatedly with a should and nerve issue that came out of nowhere. After about Four months with no help on my shoulder and spending most nights on the couch I decided to get a new adjustable bed frame. Not a high dollar one but one with good reviews and keep the old mattress and mattress pad we were using. Miracle...it made all the difference and I haven't been to the chiropractor since. Worth the purchase for multiple reasons.

Thank you for sharing God with so many people! It's wonderful to hear your testimony and faith. I am so thankful to God that I grew up with this same knowledge. I am thankful that my parents brought us to Church and instilled these beliefs in my sisters and I. So many people just don't know how good God is and how life is nothing without Him and believing in him. No, we cannot get to Heaven by our good works. Believe and trust in him and he will provide and take care of you.
I lost one of my daughter's to cancer 8 days before her 16th birthday. We knew she was not going to beat cancer and I was assured that one day I will be with her in Heaven and that she has no more pain.
God needed her more and honestly, she was only on loan to us. She belonged to God.
We never know when our time is up on this earth and I pray that your testimony to so many people will bring more people to know and believe in God and accept his will in their lives.
I am thankful that my pastor ministers to our congregation with his Bible in hand and we follow along with our own Bibles.
GOD IS A NECESSITY AND ONE WILL ONLY FIND PEACE WITH GOD LEADING THEIR LIVES!
    God bless you!

We live near a military base. People move often and it’s quite common for people to put good, gently used items on the curb for anyone who wants it. They will often post a picture of the item on FB so anyone who needs it can come by and claim it. Daughter gave away a very nice rocking chair last month. Then yesterday she was able to get a “like new” bunk bed frame that was curbside - family was moving and didn’t want to move it. Love this about our community!

Some of these “thrift” stores are trying to rob their customers. A Salvation Army in my area just yesterday had $4.99 for two dozen clothespins! And they were in a plastic bag…not new. A cheap looking, small plastic purse with a mark of some sort (dirt?) on the back was priced at $14.99! Most of the shoppers in that store can’t afford those kinds of prices for used goods. That said, I have found great deals at thrift stores. However, it is not as easy to find good quality, current (within the last five years or so) styles of clothing when thrifting as some might say. I don’t know if the good buys are getting snapped up quickly or people are keeping their clothing longer but the prime, used items aren’t plentiful as they once were IMO.

    • @gloriat8427

Goodwill has gotten this way with their pricing, and you’re right…people can’t afford the pricing. They get the merchandise thru donations, so they didn’t pay for it in the first place. And they have the nerve to ask if you want to round-up when you checkout! I have asked in a polite way if they have any idea how much the CEO makes. Not to be rude but I believe it’s upper 6 figures.

There's soooo many books on gardening. You should buy one that covers everything. If can't buy, check out libraries. I taught myself from many different books. Worked at a farm stand selling food/garden plants from several green houses. Didn't know much,at the time, about all the different annuals/perennials/veggies but had reference chart and more books. I've really enjoyed gardening. Eventually, I became a gardener/landscaper for a private estate on the central coast of Maine.$$! Burned out and retired now at 70. It's friggin' hard work, so be prepared. Now, I grow some in big pots. Easier, but still can be a lot of work. At least, I know how and own my land. Looks like I might need a garden, again. Good luck!! ✌️

@@lindawilson8434 Hi. I would love to recommend some but hard to remember now. 🙄 I sold many in a garage sale long time ago. Like I mentioned, go to the library. Look for ones that have veggies OR flowers not both unless that's what you want. Best to do separate ones. I still have a few but mostly perennials(some annuals). I still grow a few veggies in pots. Check for books and videos online. Saw one that shows how to grow in laundry baskets from Dollar store. Never thought of that.🤔 Great for saving 💰. I still watch and learn new tips. If you don't have a garden area try containers. Sometimes it's even better. Don't have to bend over so far! lol Don't be overwhelmed or discouraged with all the info. Talk to others that garden. You can learn a lot. Very rewarding to see what you can accomplish. Sorry for going on so. Hope this helps you. Good luck! 🤞
