- This is the third workshop in a 7 part series of ornamentation techniques for harp by traditional musician and harper Karen Marshalsay. This workshop focuses on playing the bee's plait, aka 432 triplets or birls or thistles, a really characteristic sound in tradtional Scottish tunes. The technique is demonstrated, then there are ideas for practising, and a new tune is taught which really uses this ornament, The Zoom Fire's Reel which Karen wrote in lockdown in 2020.
Examples are also looked at from
Is leam cruinneagh dhonn na ‘m bò (Trad. The Gesto Collection)
Uighean na Caisge (K. Marshalsay)
Uamh 'n Oire (The Cave of Gold) trad. Gaelic
Plus clips on pedal harp and wire harp at the end demonstrating this technique..
