      @04:28 for Drums!! if that sensor works with drum heads, then it could reduce the bleed A LOT. That would be a video! Lewitt, is that possible? I would change my drums mic to Lewitt RAY, but then, let's see how they behave first with drums and then, with the proximity sensor on Drumheads and Cymbals.

    I feel like this mic is a bit on the gimmicky side but I also feel like I really hope I’m wrong. A mic like this has major implications for the sound stage industry. Just imagine being on a set with actors needing to catch every spoken line with consistent detail. Lots of shots get a retake due to audio being weak or varying. A mic like this could make the job for the boom guy MUCH easier.

    This is genuinely a HUGE step forward in mic technology!. maybe the biggest since??.......switchable patterns??
    There's a lot more going on here than just compression?, expanding?, noise reduction??. I really have no idea how they achieved this??. I was NOT expecting that price reveal !?!?. If this really works in various situations, the tech is worth 3times that price!. I may be one of the few who don't like tons of proximity effect on a voc mic. I do a lot of podcast recording, and this mic will be a game changer!!. I want to here some more reviews from home studio people. This is on my list of gear to buy!

    • @Mansardian
      @Mansardian 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, its not that simple. It also compensates for the proximity effect, that's why you have the distance system. If it was just a compressor you wouldn't need the distance, just the level as a reference.

    • @aherbs86
      @aherbs86 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    • @HolarMusic

  • @dddux
    @dddux 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    To be completely usable you should be able to set the distance from the mic, so you could get a kind of proximity effect if you want. That would make it more interesting. I actually like the proximity effect because you can use it to "perform with the mic".

  • @henrikpetersson3463
    @henrikpetersson3463 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I've been thinking about this solution for years hoping that someone would implement it. It seems that Lewitt did a really good job at it! My idea would be to record the distances and use a plugin in the DAW to process it. That way you have more control obviously. And you could mount sensors to practically any mic.
    But with built in DSP it's much easier to use. Well done Lewitt!

    @tvelektron 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm actually very traditional when it comes to microphones, but I'd be interested in trying it for spoken voice, as the proximity effect can be annoying if the speaking distance changes. A direct comparison with, for example, EV RE320 would be interesting. Same price range only counteracts the proximity effect due to its very special housing construction...

    I love My Lewitt mic, it sounds so good for the price they ask for, I think people kinda dismiss the quality when they see the price but DAMN they sound crisp! And they're solid too!
    Now this... This is on another level. Groundbreaking tech with real use-case in mind, not just gimmicks. And 350€ is a STEAL for that level of usefulness, especially for someone with a new studio that is recording less skilled or experienced artists. The last part of the recording showing the non-existing proximity effect was way more impactful than the actual side-by-side recording. And while it is tempting with the distance, the next-level implementation would be direction and sound source recognition. If a camera sees, where the audio is coming from due to the movement indicating noise creation, then everything that is recorded and not part of the movement should be cut out (e.g. before and after you start singing / speaking you identify the noise floor or sounds, which are then canceled out during the recording). THAT would be a killer mic I would buy. I have more issues with direction and overall noise in my room (I'm not a professional, just a hobbyist) than with distance, and hence I wouldn't buy this one. But I like the direction, that LEWITT is taking here.

    I'm curious to know how far this might go towards curing the problems you sometimes get when comping new takes into an existing session, when the vocalist's position relative to the mic might have changed, or the instrumentalist's stool has moved since the intial recording was made and things don't quite match up sonically.

    • @sparella

I can't freaking tell you how much of an absolute pain it is to match bad mic technique to a scene. It is a lot of editing and automation to make even usable at times. Interesting concept. But as a vocalist myself, I would never use such a microphone. I do in fact, use the “proximity effect“ to my advantage. Frankly, I know how to use a microphone when I sing into it. And I always use a little bit of pre-compression ratio of 2:1. As stated here, I believe this microphone is perfect for podcasts, etc. For my taste, there’s something dubious about using this as a singer. I just can’t imagine cool and strongly stylized vocalists like Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Nick Cave and so many others, not knowing how to sing into a microphone properly and relying upon this “cold“ technology.
