@Lass Orb seriously, and at this price point, this thing just may end up in my mic locker. It could be my new flagship. We truly live in the golden age of home recording.
Thanks for making affordable microphones, a year ago we replaced almost all microphones with Lewitt ones, 10 440pure and 2 pure tube mics, paired with pre's from my API console an amazing combination. Please continue on the pad you're going to.
All the mics are 100% usable , If you go wrong with any of these then its human error. Yes its not price , its artist performance and engineer savvy at the end of the day.
In the firts take of lewitt from 1:15 there's some kind of noise which is present from the begining but at that moment gets very loud. Neumann sound so clean after that😅
These Lewitt tube condensers have become very popular among the modern metal folks. From what I've seen so far, they sound great with pretty loud or extreme vocal performances, especially with belts. Haven't had an opportunity to try one myself yet, but I've heard some really professional sounding recordings done with these in some friend's bedroom studios.
This sounds cool, but if I wanted something to compete with a U47, it would hands-down be a CM47 from Advanced Audio for $695 USD. They make absolutely killer microphones.
I helped design the Lewitt 1040 and its awesome... BUT...The pure tube is close. So close. The Lewitt's ALL accentuate the high end the 440 especially. These are awesome microphones they almost capture too much information. hahahahahahahaha! Keep up the good work!
As a singer, writer , engineer and Producer I did not hear an audible difference other than they sound like different great mics. There is no way your going to listen to this song on the radio and say what mic it is. A good singer, a good performance and a good song gets the stars on any mic but some mics do it better and the Lewitt is that type of mic. Im not a Neumann hater as I have 1 and several other mics including Manley Ref C. Just don't discount this Lewitt because your a Neumann fanboy or something. Write a good song and all of the mic shootouts go out the window.
It’s not about whether you can hear the difference in the finished product. A good engineer will mix them all at the same quality. But with the u47 he can take the 2nd half of the day off.
I have a question. Whats the tube on the Pure Tube? 12AX7 T? etc...Also we must changed it on a few years? How to do it? If it fails. How many years will last that tube? As you own one Pure Tube it is possible to change the tube in some years if it need? Thanks for your videos
There's one constant resonance somewhere between 2k and 4k in the Lewitt (one narrow frequency jumping out) which makes you think it's way worse than u47 but it's very easy eq fix. Other than that overall character and sound is very nice
What interests me the most is a comparison between this and the Manley Reference Cardioid which seems to have been built with a similar design philosophy. Any thoughts?
Is there an advantage of the Pure vs the 840/940 which 'seem' to be the same, but with more features - albeit, older. Does the Pure have updates that make it better than the 840/940? You did mention the Pure being better than the 1040.....coould you explain why/how? Many thanks for all your work and response.
I think it was almost unfair to drop a switch to the U47 just as backing vox came in at 1:54. I think that made a lot of people jump at the U47 sound. I can hear a bit more air/very bright high end on the U47, but even with my best headphones and my main monitors, the difference is frankly subtle I really think the timeframe of the edits between the mics gave a pretty misleading sense of the difference.
that was a great affiliation disclosure!! thanks a lot for being transparent! Great video and love the Song too! Now I wanna give my 2 cents on the mic because why not- I think the 47 sounds like a record and the Lewitt doesn't. I'm not even sure why but it's more of a feeling to be totally honest. She pierces through the mix much better with the U47 (it might be that her voice specifically fits the t mic very well, too). Might be interesting to see the Lewitts and U47 in comparison to the U87, because that's also a very neutral and realistic sounding mic and I really feel like that's also what they kinda went for.
I can guarantee it's not from the pure tube itself. Having the microphone, I could tell you it's extremely quiet. Perhaps it was the other instruments being mic'd with another microphone.
U47 still impeccable. This mic is just perfection. Sound is great, even and realistic in every freq range. But for price of Lewitt? Sheesh! Very, very close! Still you can hear bump in highs like in all Lewitt mics (Personally, I don't like it). But again, for about $1k? Many people can't afford Neumann so it's great you can buy very close quality to more expensive gear.
Neumann is somehow special with its vintage service - quote: "Service is an integral part of the Neumann philosophy to give our customers the best possible quality at all times. That’s why our service department makes no technical modifications of any kind but will always restore the products to their initial specifications, thus preserving their original character. Neumann offers this service for all microphones made after 1947. If mechanical parts have become defective, we can remanufacture them according to archived production drawings. Certain tubes, however, cannot be replaced anymore as manufactures like Telefunken already discontinued their production in the late 1960s." That's not cheap but worthwhile. They "revived" my U87 from the late 60s (the grandmother that could also be powered with a battery in the casing) with great results.
It is very hard to compare against in that way, to be honest, not the exactly same parts and performance when different mic is on. Of course I get it, you need support so files provided to patrons only, but if even video doesn't let to do really comparison so what are the chances for any possible usage of affiliate links? ;) For me too many work with rewinding and trying to catch similar parts (still not the same) and my impressions changed many times until I gave up :D

@@Piotre Thanks for the time you spend responding to my criticism on you. I said it's not possible to make a good comparison on YT, that's not so hard to understand if you know anything about audio, but you can hear relatively to each other that it's a pretty good mike. That's how far it gets. And creating for YT is not charity work, somehow you seem to have huge problem with that.
I couldn’t hear any difference between the Lewitt mics, but the U47 suited this track and voice so much better. Smoother/less harsh, blending nicely into the mix. Could some eq and some warm analogue processing polish the hard corners off the Lewitt takes?
Nope. Can't say I reliably hear a difference. They all sound amazing to me 😂 A friend of mine recently talked to me about his experience with a Neumann mic (was it the U47? idk, it's just "the Neumann") when it was run into a clean preamp and straight into the converter - basically "sounds okay-ish, not much magic happening, what's the big deal" - and then the eye-opening experience of running the same mic through (I think) a 1073 preamp and into an 1176. Which is what the mic was probably built to work with. That is to say, the chain between the mic and the converter can also be a huge factor, and I'd be extremely interested in hearing these mics compared against each other without the benefit of running through a Fairchild, of all things 😀 because then it's not a question of whether to buy a €1000 mic or a €3000 one, but rather whether to buy a €1000 mic + a €100000 analog chain, or a €3000 mic + a €100000 analog chain, which is quite a different perspective.. I understand that people usually don't want to run an expensive tube mic straight into a cheap soundcard preamp, but when you're on a low budget and want to come up with that one investment that will make the biggest improvement in your sound, you might not be able to buy both a mic _and_ a preamp.. I will stop raving now, I love your content Wytse, just sad I'll probably never be able to afford even the mic itself, and even if I did, it wouldn't be any use to me because I can't even hear how it's different from other mics 😂
Mics are so close. The U47 sound is not quite as bright and has a more "rounded" sound? It's close. The mics' positions may even account for it? Great video!
Nice, seriously considering the Lewitt. But that U47 is special. I wonder if some of the „magic“ is just down to the singer being aware of singing into a Neumann - and that making the difference?!
something pinched sounding on the pure tube. with my eyes shut every time I heard a high mid that made me want to tighten my eyes it was the pure tube when I opened them.
RHIANNIN is amazing! Wytse is awesome! The U47 is my favorite! But I must say for the price tag Lewitt do a great job producing a decent tube mic. I wouldn't be ashamed recording with that.
Those two mics have almost nothing in common and they weren't meant to. One is a toneful character mic and the other offers a much truer representation of the sound source. It's completely apples to oranges. Personally, I'd take the Lewitt as a MUCH more useful tool compared to the 47.
@@paulquinnvoiceover8354 I agree with that. Not to mention u can buy several Lewitt mic's for the same price 😆. If you 're recording vocals on a really professional level, only then i 'd say u really need that 47. It really sounds better.

I am very tolerant of replicas and more affordable substitutes and rather like them and I don’t mean to over exaggerate here but this comparison showed me how Neumann U47 is extraordinary. It blends much better with the instruments.
Lewitt answered this question on Pure Tube video on their channel. I know the 840 has the polar system so this may not actually be an upgrade from the 840.
@@saricubra2867 the high-end boost can be useful for rap and pop vocals... Since rap and pop artist tend to prefer the sony c800 which is a bright microphone microphone.
It sounds like it could be an excellent choice for a voiceover mic, which is what I would use it for. Question, how well does the Pure Tube respond to EQ? Btw, I love your channel! If you ever wanted a professional voiceover for the intro to your segments, I'd be happy to provide it at no charge :) Thanks!
Using AirPods Pro v2 w Apple TV on WiFi, I much preferred the Lewitt Tube to the pricier lewitt on her vocals. The 1040 sounded a bit "chirpy" on the highs to me-A sound I dread on a vocal mic. Great job Lewitt! Great product for vocals only, at LEAST!
Not a great test, the singer spent most of her time singing at the U47, so the Lewitts were trying to compete with a U47 at its best with an off axis signal. should have put a big pop filter up with a dot for her to aim at which would be equidistant to the centre of the three three capsules - a compromise but a fair one. Also the singer appeared to be "working" the U47 - I bet that's the mic she had in her headphone monitor mix.
Do you find that people who are particularly expressive physically like your singer on average sing better than singers who are move around or make gestures less?
the better you sing the more you'll want to move to the music, it keeps you relaxed and in the flow state. Interesting observation and as a singer I see a lot of truth to that
It was nice, but it was not the Neumann. The Lewitt had a little too much spice in the high frequencies. The Neumann was just beautiful and magical and would need less post processing.
This philosophy has been around for a long time, a tube microphone with so few components in the signal path where the tube gives the character! Lewitt has taken the "Se Electronics Gemini II" philosophy BUT the Gemini II has 2 tubes that give a great tube sound and a vocal microphone that beats the Pure Tube by a long way! Replace the tubes in the Gemini II with 2 Telefunken and you have an unbeatable tube microphone in the studio!
Honestly its what we need... I've been doing this stuff for around 20 years now and I've watched Mic companies and plugin companies over and over try to recreate the classics... Those classics were innovative at the time they were invented. lets stop living in the past and look towards. If you want a U47 NOTHING else will give you what you are looking for other then a U47.. just facts. So a mic company going off on thier of route to a tube microphone that reall sounds great is a huge step forward that a lot of these companies are affraid to do. Why make something new when 1000's of people will buy this shitty recreation. How many scheops circuit mics do we need? wrong price range but a great example.. Thanks lewitt. keep doing you.
I listened blindly during the demo section , so I couldn't visually see when each mic was being switched between. I couldn't even tell when they were being switched. They all sounded good. I'm listening on decent speakers.
One of the best sounding albums of all time is The Beatles Rubber Soul and it´s famous for using almost only the U47. Listen to the song Michelle. It´s clean and smooth but I´m not sure it has a lot of character, probably the character we here today in some U47´s is due to a lot of dirt on the foil.
Can't hear any difference between both Lewitts on this recording. Both sound very good. But to my ears the Neumann adds an extra bit of silky magic to the (already great ♥) voice.

@@Tephomab Very hi-fi, but i like more the U47's more natural timbre.
I'm young but in real life you don't hear that high end in a voice.
@@saricubra2867 the high-end boost can be useful for rap and pop vocals... Since rap and pop artist tend to prefer the sony c800 which is a bright microphone microphone.
Great comparison video! Wow the Pure tube sounds amazing. Would be neat if Lewitt made both an Omni, and Figure 8 version of the Pure Tube.
I think Lewitt's LCT 840 covers those bases!
brilliant vocalist
You in fact, did not link the song.
Can’t find the song here even though I went to the link
Sorry to bother but can some one point to me the name of the song?
It sounds like it could be an excellent choice for a voiceover mic, which is what I would use it for. Question, how well does the Pure Tube respond to EQ? Btw, I love your channel! If you ever wanted a professional voiceover for the intro to your segments, I'd be happy to provide it at no charge :) Thanks!
It's almost like comparing a new mirrorless video camera to a Hasselblad medium format camera...
Great product for vocals only, at LEAST!
where is the link to the song?
Wow, what a singer! What a phenomenal song!
You have best Microphone tester on you tube - man this worth listening to!
Lovely Vocalist....... Feeling the Tubes Warmth. Thanks, Man for the Video.
Harsh sounding ssssss's compared to the smooth U47. But as you said, not a fair comparison.
Especially for you ! Thank Jason & Kylie
I preferred the Pure Tube across the board. Love it
Very good sounding mic for sure. The Neumann wins in my opinion but not by much seems smoother but I’m ready to buy that lewitt lol
She had the pure tube in her headphones.
@@Whiteseastudio Strange that she was singing at the 47 then.
Holly 47 sounds like cheese damn... s' dont hurt at all and sooo silky smooth makes the lewitt siund like it is compressed and with ton of highs
sounds nice. all their mics sound nice even the affordable ones. 440 pure is what im saving towards.
Will someone please replicate the Violet Design globe vintage
Little low mid depth is missing in lewitt ...and forward...
Incredible performance !! 😎
who is warren howard?
Do you find that people who are particularly expressive physically like your singer on average sing better than singers who are move around or make gestures less?
Interesting question! Never researched that 😅
the better you sing the more you'll want to move to the music, it keeps you relaxed and in the flow state. Interesting observation and as a singer I see a lot of truth to that
The neumann clearly sounds better, even on my phone speakers. Amazing
Replace the tubes in the Gemini II with 2 Telefunken and you have an unbeatable tube microphone in the studio!
song link?
There is an immediate magic with the U47...
This mic has some serious tone... Just really rich in the midrange...
Or get a slate ML-1 and have many mics. I dont have any real ones to compare but seems like the way to go
You should have removed the pop shield from u47, the lewitt mics were brighter as a result, but they sound really great 😊
I've noticed that the pop filter from the U47 actually creates some brightness...
@@Whiteseastudio really?
The 47 is magic
even with the TH-cam algorithm the u47 sounds amazing
The U47 wins here. No competition. But I don't really care much for the Lewitt mics even at their price point.
I listened blindly during the demo section , so I couldn't visually see when each mic was being switched between. I couldn't even tell when they were being switched. They all sounded good. I'm listening on decent speakers.
Both Lewitt win for me. Boost in mid frequencies. Perhaps theyre great for her compared to the Neumann
weaver beats really came for white sea, one of the only legit guys on this platform and white sea handled it like a G 🔥
that song was awesome!
The one used in the video was recently cleaned...
Lewitt mikes sound a bit mushy in comparison to the clarity of the u47. Forgive the dancing to architecture.
Buy what ya can afford and have fun using the gear. ❤
The difference must be lost in all the processing the web and computers do -- I can't really hear any difference at all. Is it me?
after getting used to a 47, everything else sounds like plastic :(
Great performance!
🤣 lol, I guess you watch Weaver Beats also...
Excellent vocal. It was quite a subtle difference, to my ear. 😃
Thank you for this comparison !
Love the performance & such an awesome awesome video 💚
I feel like Whytse is replying to Weaver beats on the outro🤭
If I want a U-47 I would get a SA-47 Mklll from Stam Audio. Very awesome clone.
Can't hear any difference between both Lewitts on this recording. Both sound very good. But to my ears the Neumann adds an extra bit of silky magic to the (already great ♥) voice.
I have several of their mics and live them
To answer the question in the thumbnail, because someone had to !!!
And isn’t is awesome.
Good job micing them all up for the same take. Most videos like this record individual takes for each mic. This is a much better way to compare them.
I really try to do these mic reviews right, it's a lot of work, but I think it's fair this way.
Not fair at all Lewitt killing it
