All his backing groups had to watch him, this one especially, they didn't know what was coming next or for how long, if you look you'll see. He had his eye on one of the sweet inspirations, she of course was black, the walking up to and where you going was for her, and he's been called a racist, complete claptrap.
The man was beautiful inside and out ❤

I was only one year old at that time and grew up every day with Elvis in my home as my dad was a huge fan. Every movie and anything he did was in our household. However, i now realised with your comment on the background vocals, this is where i fell in love with soul music. To me the 70's was the best music of motown and soul ever. Those girls gave the soul to it. Much love from The Netherlands.

Fun Elvis fact - Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, sang for Elvis in the "Sweet Inspirations" backup singers group!
They were very high paid back vocalists for a lot of HUGE bands back in the day!!
I was 8 when this performance was filmed! I loved it back then and still love it!!
Hard to believe in just 5 years following this performance Elvis would balloon up due to his serious drug addiction to prescription meds, and two years later he was in his grave!
How sad. I was a lead vocalist/writer for 30 years because of Elvis and later the Beatles, and I personally witnessed many great performers lives go from awesome and endlessly fun to tragedy and even death. Drugs brought my career to a crash landing end, then Jesus picked up all the busted pieces and I was reborn!!! Wooo!!!!

Elvis enabled the beat and passion oriented music we have had since the 50's. Not that the music had not already been percolating, but Elvis put his irresistible stamp on it and made it mainstream and acceptable to society at large, after a lot of initial resistance from the older generation. So much fun! Like I said before, Elvis liked to laugh a lot. There is a recording of him singing in Vegas and he is joking around with lyrics and just as he says the word bald he is looking right at a bald guy and then bursts out laughing. He could not stop laughing for the rest of the song. I wish I could think of the title but I just can’t remember right now.

"Are You Lonesome Tonight" (laughing version/ Vegas 1969).
The lady with high voice (background) is Cissy Houston, Whitneys mom.
      Unfortunately only audio.

I can't help but wonder watching him do the karaté moves in his white suit, he reminds me of Bruce Lee. Even their hair are similar in cut and color. Was Elvis a fan of Bruce Lee or was somehow influenced by him?

Such a great voice. I lived during Elvis time he was one of the first I fell in love with. Greatness, he was a turn on no doubt. He was banned from the Ed Sullivant show from the waist down because he girated. He was looked down on from the church they accused him of corruption because of his moves. It's hard to believe that but I loved him for sure. Great reaction!!!

A MUST “A Little Less Conversation” and “An American Trilogy” in Sept 2011 my one son was deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan (3/11-3/12) and a family member Who was throwing a family party at the time (threw one every year for quite a few years each year with a different theme) had an Elvis theme this particular year had a Elvis impersonator who was really really good well this Elvis impersonator performed “an American trilogy” and here they dedicated to my son not a dry eye in the place!! I have a video of it I cry every time I watch it especially when he says Matthews coming home soon so don’t worry about it let’s raise your hands to Matthew and come home soon Matthew we all love you, I’ll never forget that day!! RIP Elvis
